Public participation in urban planning is meant to increase democracy in the planning process. Even though all citizens have the option to participate in urban planning debates, few seize their chance to partake. This thesis describes a study on how user needs are met and prioritized in design processes concerning urban planning. The aim was to determine whether user-centered design (UCD) methods could be used as an avenue for public participation in urban planning and ultimately invite more citizens into the planning process.The thesis details a design process where a team worked to develop Farsta, a suburb of Stockholm. The design problem was the question of how Farsta could become an attractive business location.

Den hĂ€r rapporten beskriver ett examensarbete som fördjupat sig i rummet som informationsbĂ€rare. Studieobjektet var gĂ„rdsplanen till en nyförvaltad fastighet som ska skifta funktion frĂ„n Ă€ldreboende till företagslokaler och lĂ€genhetsboende. Arbetet skedde i samarbete med utvecklingsbolaget Nygarn Utveckling AB och var förlagt i Östergarn pĂ„ östra Gotland. MĂ„let var att skapa en attraktiv och lĂ€ttorienterad miljö i anslutning till fastigheten. För att nĂ„ mĂ„let har teorier om bland annat miljöpsykologi, fĂ€rglĂ€ra och rumsdesign samt kvalitativa observationer, analyser och intervju anvĂ€nts.Resultatet blev ett förslag som innebĂ€r att den framförliggande gĂ„rdsplanen till fastigheten förĂ€ndras.

Syftet med denna uppsats Àr att studera fyra kvinnors syn pÄ tid, struktur och kreativitet pÄ servicedesignbyrÄn Transformator design. Genom intervjuer och deltagande observation undersöker jag hur tid, struktur och kreativitet samspelar för mina informanter, och hur de anvÀnder tiden. Slutsatsen av denna studie Àr i korthet att kontrollen av tid Àr viktig för upplevelsen av tid. Strukturer, synliga och osynliga, Àr centrala för att se och förstÄ tiden och upprÀtthÄlla kontrollen av tid. Informanternas strÀvan Àr att skapa fylld tid, som Àr vÀrdefull tid, och genom kontroll av tiden skapa en positiv kÀnsla av att ha tid.

This thesis of 15 hp has been implemented at Halmstad University, in collaboration with Saab Dynamics in Linköping. Saab Dynamics is a company operating in the defence industry where competition is tough. This necessitates new ways to increase efficiency in the company, which is the basis for this thesis. Saab Dynamics wants to introduce simulation driven design. Since Saab Dynamics engineers have little experience of simulation, required a user methodology with clear guidelines.

ADHD has for a long time been perceived as something that affects children and grows away with time. American psychiatric association state that ADHD may appear differently with adolescences and adults than with children. That could lead to misunderstandings and exclusion by adults and adolescences with ADHD at work life amongst other situations. This report investigates that exclusion and tries to find what information that needs to reach certain target groups to prevent it from happen.The works focus is text design, a part of information design, and looks firstly at the factors that make good information material. Then I investigate if there is a need for more information about ADHD within working life and if so what it would contain.

Att ta hÀnsyn till kognitiva funktionsnedsÀttningar i utvecklingen avmobilapplikationer Àr utmanande dÄ vissa grÀnssnitt och funktioner kan upplevas som för kompliceradeeller ostrukturerade. I denna uppsats presenteras designmönster som kan bidra till en inkluderandedesign enligt konceptet Design för alla. Design för alla innebÀr design som möjliggör anvÀndande föralla mÀnniskor.

Föreliggande studie omfattar en jÀmförelse mellan sÀttningsberÀkningar med datorprogrammen FEM Design 11 (senast kommersiella versionen) och FEM Design 12 (betaversion under utveckling). I FEM Design 11 modelleras jorden med fjÀdrar som ges egenskaper motsvarande bÀddmoduler, vilka inte pÄ ett helt rÀttvisande sÀtt kan spegla jordens komplexa respons vid belastning. FjÀdrar kan t.ex. inte överföra skjuvkrafter mellan varandra, vilket fÄr till följd att de enskilda fjÀdrarnas respons vid belastning Àr oberoende av varandra. Vid analys av en byggnads sÀttningar, med ett datorprogram dÀr endast fjÀdrar (bÀddmoduler) anvÀnds för att beskriva jordens deformationsegenskaper, kan sÄledes en helt korrekt bild över jordens verkliga beteende inte Äterspeglas. I FEM Design 12 kan jorden Àven modelleras med volymelement, vars egenskaper modelleras enligt kontinuumsmekanik.

Spatial design for children nine to twelve years old at the Halmstad City Library. An investigation about the specific needs of the target group and how the child department can be designed to stimulate their experience of visiting the library. The aim was to create a spatial concept from the children?s ideas that inspires to playfulness and lust to read at the library. A more personal goal was to collaborate with an external part to prepare for my future role as a designer within child culture.

Genom enskilda intervjuer fick killarna berÀtta om sina personliga upplevelser och erfarenheter. Resultatet visar att familjen och frÀmst mamman Àr viktig för killarna. The object of the thesis is to propose a new lighting plan for the square Fyristorg in Uppsala, and to describe the process which have led to it. It all started when I choosed the place together with the municipality of Uppsala. I have been doing research and analyzed how the place and itÂŽs existing lighting works both during different times of the day and also in the evening. After researching the place and itÂŽs existing lighting IÂŽve decided to put up the following goals fot the new lighting design. 1. The general light level of the place shall be experienced as higher than today. 2. The light level of the place shall be adapted to the light levels of surrounding places. 3. The lighting shall be free from glare. 4. The lighting shall be adapted to people passing by. 5.The lighting shall be adapted to the surrounding architecture. 6.

During spring 2001 we have been involved with our bachelor thesis at Doberman Digital Agency, an Internet related webdesign company. We have focused our work on the registration process via digital medias such as the Internet. During our workprocess we have been conducting a number of studies and analyses of workrelated materials. Ethnographical methods such as structured interviews and participant observations were primarily used in our work. We also widely used brainstorming in our designprocess.

The purpose of this thesis project is to develop a set of interactive digital solutions designed to enhance the interest and knowledge intake of visitors at SkÄnes Djurpark (Zoo of Scania) in Höör. The project was carried out in collaboration with SkÄnes Djurpark and representatives from its visitors. Our thesis is based on academic works in the fields of interaction design, exhibit design and contextual learning. Ethnographical field studies have been conducted at SkÄnes Djurpark with additional field studies at Tropikariet in Helsingborg, Copenhagen Zoo and Regionmuseet Kristianstad. Existing information signs in SkÄnes Djurpark are primarily image- and textbased, forcing visitors to divert their attention from the different species of Nordic animals that inhabit the zoological park.

This exam paper has been a collaboration between the writers and SYSteam Utvecklingspartner in Huskvarna. The assignment was about finding a need for a mobile application, making a requirement specification document with design documents and parallel to this constructing a prototype. The assignment is summarized in the following questions:? How can companies in the forest industry benefit from mobile information technology?? How can a user centered perspective be used in the process of making the requirement specification document and the design documents?? How do guidelines for usability apply to a mobile application?Three visits to companies in the forest industry were made to find a need for mobile information technology solutions. After a small analysis of the different companies? problems and conditions the decision was to use Tenhults Impregneringsverk AB in the case study.We used the FA/SIM method in our job of finding the organization needs for change and the principles of User Centered Design in the work of constructing a prototype.The result of our work is a requirement specification with design documents and a prototype.
