Påverkan av probiotika på kariesbildande bakterier in vivo

Abstract Cavities used to be a very common problem but over time humans have learned to take care of their teeth. However, there are still many who have problems. This problem is due to microorganisms and in particular the various streptococci and lactobacilli producing acids which loosens up the enamel on teeth. These bacteria can be found at various places in the mouth and saliva. Besides being a discomfort it can be a major problems and the damaged tooth needs to be removed or make a dental filling. The aim of the study was to see how intake of probiotic tablets containing Lactobacillus reuteri PTA ATCC 5289 and Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 affects the levels of oral Streptococcus mutans and lactobacilli over a three-week period.

The most suitable method to answer the issues of this study was to do a combined literature- and questionnaire study. The literature part of the study was based on Original Research articles, Review Articles and books with a list of reference literature after each chapter and the purpose was to answer the questions ?What feed items should be given to rabbits in different life stages? and ?Which problems may develop from an inadequate diet?? Two questionnaires were constructed. One was sent by e-mail to small animal veterinary hospitals to be answered anonymously by veterinary nurses. The other was linked to from two internet forums, that with rabbits as their focus.

Dental and periodontal health in free-ranging Swedish brown bears (Ursus arctos)

Det Skandinaviska Björnprojektet har arbetat med samma björnpopulationer sedan 1984. Detta ger en unik möjlighet att över tid följa samma individer och population och därmed se eventuella förändringar som sker med dessa. Under april och maj 2008, som en del av det Skandinaviska björnprojektets årliga sövningar och märkningar av brunbjörn (Ursus arctos), undersöktes tand- och munhälsan hos 22 björnar med varierande ålder och kön. Alla björnarna vägdes och undersöktes kliniskt. Munhålan inspekterades och fotograferades.
