Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) is considered a specific and a sensitive biomarker of cardiac disease, and due to a high inter-species sequence homology; human cTnI assays can often be used in veterinary medicine. The main aim of this study was to perform an initial evaluation of a human cTnI test, the Meritas Troponin I test, for measurement of equine plasma cTnI, in order to investigate whether the test could be a possible subject for a more comprehensive validation. The hypothesis was that the test could measure equine cTnI, as there is a good homology between equine cTnI and human cTnI. The evaluation included a dilution parallelism, an intra-assay precision study and measurement of plasma cTnI healthy horses. In the dilution parallelism and the intra-assay precision study, equine plasma with previously established high cTnI concentration, according to another cTnI assay, was used. In addition, cTnI concentration was measured in plasma, collected from 19 horses, without signs of disease at physical and ECG examinations. The obtained curve in the dilution parallelism was linear, indicating that the Meritas Troponin I test can be used to measure different concentrations of equine cTnI in plasma.

Herod is horrified, but grants Salome's desire.This is the first in a series of Salome petitions as Mark and Matthew in the New Testament. Salome has since then never ceased to fascinate artists and writers through the ages.

The purpose of this essay is to examine and explain how the Swedish mining court of Stora Kopparberget (the Great Copper Mountain) implemented its judicial legislation between 1641-1682. Questions are asked about which counts of indictments the court tried, which sentences they handed out, in what quantities and how these results looks in comparison with other contemporary courts. The index cards of the court judicial protocols are the primary source of information. The methods are those of quantity- and comparative analysis.The results show that theft of copper ore was the most common crime ransacked by the court. Other common crimes were (in order): sin of omission, transgression of work directions, fights, slander and disdain, trade of stolen ore, failing appearance in court etc.Fines were by far the most common sentence followed by shorter imprisonments, gauntlets, loss of right to mine possession, twig beating, loss of work, penal servitude, banishment, ?wooden horse riding? and finally military transcription.

Gränsdragningen mellan närings- och hobbyverksamhet är särskilt svår i hästverk-samheter där det nästan alltid finns ett inslag av personligt nöje i utövandet. En verk-samhet ska bedrivas yrkesmässigt, självständigt och med ett vinstsyfte för att uppfyl-la näringskriterierna i 13 kap. 1 § IL. Är kraven på näringsverksamhet inte uppfyllda så kan verksamheten istället beskattas som hobby. Det räcker oftast inte att hästverk-samheten bedrivs med ett vinstsyfte utan den måste i princip generera ett överskott för att inte beskattas som hobbyverksamhet.

In total 249 horses surgically treated for colic in Sweden during 2002 until 2005 were studied. The horses was identified by the animal insurance company Agria. Survival was studied with respect to age, gender, breed, diagnosis (small intestinal problems, caecal problems, large intestinal problems, incarceration in nephrosplenic ligament, unspecific colic and other colic problems) and treating hospital. Different survivals were calculated. For short-term survival proportions was used and for long-term it was done using Kaplan-Meier technique and log-rank testing.

Hotell Bellevue byggdes i anslutning till den tidigare vattenkuranstaltens villor från 1880-talet i Hjo stadspark. Hotellet stod färdigt 1971 och ritades av arkitekt Hans-Erland Heineman (1919-2003). Jag undersöker i denna uppsats historien bakom byggnadsprojektet och analyserar dels hur byggnaden gestaltats i förhållande till arkitektens tidigare arbeten och dels byggnadens förhållande till den omgivande miljön. Jag har försökt kartlägga den samtida diskursen, vilket har gjort att jag lagt stor vikt vid att undersöka hur byggnadsprojektet redovisades i den lokala tidningen. Analysen av byggnadens anslutning till platsen har jag relaterat till de två arkitekturteoretikerna Rem Koolhaas och Kenneth   Framptons olika sätt att se på arkitektur.Hjo stadspark anlades i slutet av 1800-talet och var då en parkanläggning till Hjo Vattenkuranstalt. Kuranstalten var fullt utbyggd vid sekelskiftet 1900 och Hjo fungerade då som en turistort för den semestrande borgarklassen.

The city?s public environments are meant to be perceived as safe and inviting areas to visit any time of the day. In recent decades the number of vandalism complaints has doubled and graffiti has become so common that it received a separate category in the crime statistics. With this type of impacts in the public environments the experience are precarious and a boring sight. It?s difficult to put a price tag on these types of crimes, the number of unreported cases suspected to be large.

The aim of this study is to make clear the conception ?Sustainable Urban Development? through an investigation dealing with how the sustainable goals are attained in today?s Swedish urban planning. And also try to clarify where and why sustainable development is failing or lacking. Besides that I have investigated how actors take position towards urban sustainability. The essay is based on a literature study about sustainable urban development and it?s changes through the time and place.

This essay aims to emphasize and clarify the positions that exist within the current globalization debate. The positions are the neo-liberal, the opponents, the pragmatists and the skeptics. The text presents and explains their ideological, moral and political positions and beliefs about the world, the nation state, the society and the individual; in light of Steven Lukes? and Antonio Gramsci's theories regarding the interaction and the relationship between power and hegemony. The methodological starting point is the ideology-critical analysis; in which their arguments in the current globalization debate is highlighted and categorized.

Att öka engagemang och inlärning är syftet med att integrera en pedagogisk agent i många spel. Detta fungerar väldigt bra, studier har visat att agenterna påverkar användares engagemang i lärsystemet och det påverkar även prestationen i lärsystemet och minnet för det användaren lärt sig. Lärsystem med pedagogiska agenter påverkar även inställningen till matematik positivt. Agenternas olika kön sägs påverka användare olika, maskulina agenter sägs leda till bättre prestation än de feminina agenterna. Dessa skillnader tros bero på de stereotyper vi människor tillskriver både människor och fiktiva karaktärer för att veta hur någon beter sig och hur man själv ska bete sig i relation till denne.

The main purpose with this thesis has been to study the design philosophy of Bruno Mathsson, how he worked with his houses and the landscape surrounding them and which kind of inspiration sources he had. My work started when I during the autumn 2004 got involved in an existing project related to one of his glass houses. The glass house is situated in Kosta and has during the last fifteen years suffered from so much vandalism and decay that it has become a problem for the municipality of Lessebo. The intentions are to restore the house and to transform it to a center for Swedish design, also containing a store and a café as well as hosting one apartment for scholarship students. My task in this project was to form and develop the outdoor environment in connection to the house.

Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is a disease caused by Rift Valley Fever virus (RVFV), which is an arbovirus. An arbovirus is a virus that is transmitted by an arthropod vector, in this case a mosquito. The virus is a member of the Phlebovirus genus in the family Bunyaviridae. It was first identified in the Rift Valley in Kenya in 1930. The disease is a zoonosis but mainly affects domestic ruminants inducing massive abortions and a high mortality among young animals.

Växtligheten på dagens kyrkogårdar har i regel knappt en 100?200-årig historia. Det var i slutet av 1800-talet som kyrkogården efterhand fick det utseende som vi förknippar med en gammal kyrkogård, med höga kyrkogårdsträd och en kyrkogårdsmur.Det trädsortiment som har använts i trädkransen som inramar kyrkogården eller trädrader längs gångar, har varit begränsat beroende på traditioner och trädens lämplighet. Man valde ofta arter utifrån de lokala förutsättningarna, såsom alm, lind, lönn och björk. Under en längre tid har sjukdomar på en del trädarter brett ut sig och hotar trädbestånden på våra kyrkogårdar.

The aetiology of osteochondrosis (OC) is known to be complex and multifactorial. The occurrence of bone fragments in joints and their connection to osteochondral disease are no exception. In the hock and stifle joint of the horse this type of lesion has generally been considered to be of osteochondral origin, while the process behind these fragments in the fetlock joint has been up for discussion. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency and the localisation of OC in Swedish warmblooded horses. In order to do so all radiographs of stifle, hock and fetlock joints performed on Swedish warmblooded horses during the period of 1992-1999 at Regiondjursjukhuset in Helsingborg were examined and the material was divided into two groups.

Denna retrospektiva studie har som syfte att utvärdera effekten av en lösning bestående av salpetersyra, kopparnitrat, zinknitrat och bindemedel (Oxalic®), vid behandling av aurala plaque hos häst. Studien ämnar också jämföra och diskutera detta nya behandlingsalternativ i relation till den i litteraturen enda tidigare beskrivna behandlingen mot sjukdomen, 5 % imiquimodkräm (Aldara®). Journaler för åtta hästar som blivit kliniskt diagnosticerade och behandlade mot aurala plaque på UDS Hästkliniken i Uppsala samt på Hästkliniken Täby mellan 2011 och 2013 låg till grund för insamling av data. Djurägarna till alla de åtta hästarna hade sökt sig till specialistdermatologmottagningen på grund av att deras häst uppvisade tecken på smärta/irritation till följd av sina aurala plaque, vilket visade sig som öron- och huvudskygghet och gav svårigheter i den vardagliga hanteringen av hästen. Behandlingarna följdes upp på nytt genom telefonsamtal med djurägarna 12 till 28 månader efter sista behandling.
