This essay examines two modern retellings of the classic fairy tale of Snow White and the seven dwarfs in the version of the brothers Grimm. By analyzing the differences in the modern version to the more original one my aim is to be able to see how these objects of popular culture are affected by the type of society they are created within.In my two-step analysis I have first used the theory of narratology to find what changes had been made in the two retellings. Here I have the help of several key concepts of the theorists Vladimir Propp, Gérard Genette and David Bordwell. The narrative differences, which turned out to concern the characters mostly, I have then sought to explain in the light of the sociological theories of Zygmunt Bauman regarding liquid modernity and liquid fears..

Syftet med undersökningen är att analysera hur svensk dagspress framställer Fotografiska museets utställning Burning Beauty med fotografier av David LaChapelle genom hur konstkritikerna framställer konsten och konstnären som person. Undersökningsmaterialet består av artiklar, konst- och kulturtidskrifter, nättidskrifter och radioreportage i Sverige under eller inför utställningen. Jag har genom att närläsa artiklarna undersökt vilka ord och formuleringar som förekommer vid beskrivningen av utställningen, konstnären och konsten.Konstkritikerna framställer utställningen som välgjord och ett unikt tillfälle att få se en konstnärskarriär under ett och samma tak då den innehåller över 250 bilder från 1980-talet fram till 2012. Det är den största utställningen som Fotografiska museet visat och den största utställningen som LaChapelle haft. Den liknas vid en neonlysande regnbåge som följer väggarna på Fotografiska.

In this thesis I have criticized traditional nationalism theories formulated by Eric Hobsbawm, Ernest Gellner, Benedict Anderson and Anthony D. Smith. The critique has been based on my belief that nationalism theories do not explain nations whose foundation is built on forward-looking, dynamic aspects such as economy, human and civil rights, and democracy. Traditional nationalism theories have been focused on historicizing perspectives whereas I want to draw attention to non-historicizing perspectives within the field of research. So far nationalism theories has had a shared past or a shared ethnicity as its focal point.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to examine attitudes and standpoints amongst librarians at the Swedish public library towards literary awards and awarded literature. The questions posed in the study are: What attitudes are expressed amongst these librarians towards the Nobel Prize in literature, the August Prize and literary awards and awarded literature in general? What significance do the Nobel Prize in literature, the August Prize and other literary awards have concerning purchase and display at these public libraries? How is awarded literature perceived and how do they talk about it concerning quality and are questions of quality significant? Qualitative interviews with seven librarians at four different public libraries have been done. Theories regarding J?rgen Habermas the bourgeois public sphere and Pierre Bourdieu?s terms habitus, field and capital have been used as to explain the library as a public sphere.

The aim of this paper is to explain how the European Union?s common strategy for theCommon Foreign- and Security Policy (CFSP) will change with the implementation of the Treaty of Lisbon. A comparative case study and qualitative method is used. On the basis of Smith?s theory of institutionalization we will analyze two member states: France and Denmark.

Syftet med denna uppsats var att genom en operationalisering av David Beethams legitimitetsteori utreda om bemanningsavtalet har legitimitet. Efter operationalisering av legitimitetsteorin och presentation av bemanningsavtalet och dess aktörer, lagar och domar som alla påverkar legitimiteten så fann jag att det fanns legitimitet i avtalet, men att den kom med restriktioner. Då tjänstedirektivet och Lavaldomen påverkar den svenska lagstiftningen och användandet av svenska kollektivavtal som norm på den svenska arbetsmarknaden, så har kollektivavtalen i allmänhet tappat mark, speciellt med restriktioner på användandet av strejkrätten, och bemanningsavtalet som berör mycket av den internationella arbetskraften är inget undantag. Behållningen av legitimiteten i detta unga avtal är att trots låg facklig anslutning, så omfattar avtalet ändå alla LO:s medlemmar, vars medlemsantal är stort och bidrar till legitimiteten hos det branschöverskridande avtalet..

Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka lärares uppfattning om utomhuspedagogik och erfarenhet av att undervisa i utomhusmiljö. Respondentundersökningen utgick från de fyra frågeställningarna: Hur uppfattar lärare utomhuspedagogik? Vilka erfarenheter har lärare av att undervisa i utomhusmiljö? Hur uppfattar lärare elevers lärande i utomhusmiljö? Är det ett effektivt lärande som lärarna beskriver utifrån David Kolbs ?The Experiential Learning Cycle??Kvalitativa intervjuer användes som metod och genomfördes på tre olika grundskolor i mellersta Sverige. Den ena skolan har en miljö/naturprofil, de två andra skolorna har inte en miljö/naturprofil. Det insamlade materialet bearbetades med hjälp av en tematisk analys, samt utifrån David Kolbs erfarenhetsbaserade cirkel ? ?The Experiential Learning Cycle?.I studien redovisas lärarnas uppfattningar och erfarenheter, resultatet visar att lärarna uppfattar utomhuspedagogik som ett praktiskt arbetssätt där lärandet blir konkret.

Indien har överlag varit ett patriarkalt samhälle där männen har stått över kvinnorna. I gudavärlden inom hinduismen nämns många gudinnor. Råder ett lika patriarkalt förhållande i gudavärlden? Den här frågan har varit grunden för den här studien. Syftet med studien var att jämföra kvinnliga med manliga gudar genom att läsa om hur andra författare framställt dem.

Undervisningen i skolan syftar att se till alla människors lika värde samt jämställdhet mellan könen. Men hur ser det ut i bilder och representationer som finns inom reklam och media? Vilket tyst budskap figurerar bakom de förebilder i media som möter ungdomar i deras vardag? Undersökningen analyserar två inspirationsfilmer som fanns tillgängliga på H&Ms hemsida under mars månad 2014. Filmerna använder sig av förebilder, på dam respektive herravdelningen. Med hjälp av bildutsnitt, val av kontext skapas skillnad i budskapet filmerna emellan.

In this essay I analyse the constructions of gender in the series The Phantom by Lee Falk. I apply David Tjeders readings of the bourgouise masculinity, its sensitive character and great risk of falling into unmanliness, when discussing The Phantom?s masculine development. I have analysed three adventures of The Phantom from the years 1937, 1977 and 1996, all authored by original creator Lee Falk. I argue that The Phantom increases his use of violence, therefore risking a loss of character.

The purpose of this essay is to examine how the supernatural and the occult are portrayed inpopular culture. To be able to do this, I have chosen to perform a discourse analysis of the twofirst novels in the L. J Smith series The Vampire Diaries. The novels are called TheAwakening and The Struggle.I apply the following questions in my analysis to narrow down the perspective further.?In what situations are supernatural used in the books and what part does it play??How does the supernatural affect the main characters and how is this portrayed in the novel??How is the supernatural portrayed depending on the gender of the character?I will focus mostly on the vampires since they generally are the ones who introduce thesupernatural elements into the story.I am applying gender theory in my discourse analyses of the novels, to hopefully be able togive a wider picture of the supernatural in relation to gender in the novels.I begin with analyzing the main discourses in the story, revolving around the supernatural.Secondly I analyze what impact the supernatural has on the main character.

The aim of this study is to research images of the academic world that is presented, incorporated and reproduced within the frames of the mentorship in the basic level. Can these images derive to the view upon science as a traditionally male area? Is mentorship gendered? Can the mentorship on the basic level be viewed upon as a milestone of a academic career where men and women have different opportunities to succeed?By interviewing seven mentors, working in a social sciences institution in a larger Swedish university, I have come to the conclusion that knowledge is coded male and that this affect mentors mental images of what male and female students are expected to do. The male student represent the scientist, while the female student represent what the scientist is not.Depending on the work of, among others, Kerstin Norlander, Dorothy Smith and Eva Erson I have come to view upon the university as a patriarchal organisation witch produces knowledge based upon male values, experiences and concepts. This precludes the female within this organisation from relating to the knowledge she is supposed to incorporate.
