Syftet med vår studie var att beskriva vilken betydelse skönlitteraturen har för läs- och skrivinlärningen. Vi har studerat läs- och skrivinlärningsmetoden "whole language". Denna praktiseras på Nya Zeelands skola och Manhattan New School. "Listiga räven"-projektet har även studerats då metoden användes där. Studien är av kvalitativ karaktär och resultatet baseras på litteraturstudier samt kvalitativa intervjuer.

The main purpose of this thesis is to examine how the European Union through the Directorate- General (DG) of Education and Culture, are calling forth a constructed sense of European identity amongst the citizens of the Union.It is a discourse analysis, which can be described in twofold. Firstly, it is a mapping of the European discourse; i.e. how the European Union defines the identity it seeks to mobilise. Secondly, it examines whether or not there are similarities in the European discourse of identity and the traditional nation-building discourse of national identity.According to this thesis a European identity is articulated in cultural terms, whereby its members are said to share the same values and a common cultural heritage.To bring the people of Europe closer together and to deepen awareness of their "common" history, the European Union encourages all manner of meetings and exchange schemes between Europeans. Although its goal is to develop a feeling of belonging to a shared culture, the EU is also keen to preserve the specific aspects of Europe's many cultures.

This paper aims to examine how, and if, music is being used integrated in other subjects thanmusic in school. The study is based on qualitative interviews and I haveinterviewed fourteachers, regardless of whether they use music a lot or not.The questions the study is basedon are if there might be a connection between theteachers' own feelings for music andwhether they use music inschool or not, how music is being used and does the use of musicgive any effects?The result of this study shows that there can be a connection between the teachers ownsfeelings for music and the fact if they use music when they teach or not. One of the teachersI?ve interviewed had bad music experiences and didnot use music in her teaching.

Bakgrund: Enligt Socialstyrelsens kompetensbeskrivning för sjuksköterskor ska sjuksköterskor vid omvårdnad se till hela människan, detta innefattar många olika delar bland annat kultur. I ett allt mer mångkulturellt samhälle ökar kraven på sjuksköterskor att utöva transkulturell omvårdnad.Syfte: Syftet för denna studie är att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av transkulturell medvetenhet i en vårdrelation.Metod: Genom en litteraturstudie granskades elva artiklar och sammanställdes utifrån likheter och skillnader.Resultat: Fenomenet kan tydliggöras utifrån två teman med subteman. 1)Kommunikation med subteman; Språkbarriärer, Kroppsspråk och Tolkar och 2) Kulturella skillnader med subteman; Förväntningar, Anhöriga och Vi och dom.Slutsats: För att kunna ge god omvårdnad behöver sjuksköterskor se till den unika individen och dennes behov. Det kräver att sjuksköterskor ser människan bakom kulturen samt har en insikt i dess påverkan på människans beteende. När detta inte tas hänsyn till ökar risken för vårdlidande och bristande patientsäkerhet..

This study deals with some contested issues regarding prehistoric cultural development in Amazonia and the colonial impact on the native inhabitants of the area. It focuses on the relation between groups belonging the language families of Tupí and Gê, on one hand, and the different ecological zones that they inhabit, on the other. GIS mapping is used to visualise the distribution and movements of these groups in relation to ecology and the impact of European colonization. GIS is shown to be a useful methodology for analysing historical data derived from written sources and maps. The results of these analyses are discussed in the light of different theoretical perspectives.

The aim of this paper is to examine how young men of foreign background are pictured in the realistic adolescence novels of 2009. In my process of work I have used a classical schedule for literature analysis from which I have worked out a few questions to use on my texts. The questions are related to the main characters and some of the most important minor characters ? all are young men with foreign background ? and focuses on aspects of for example where they live, who their friends are and what they think about and dream of.To put these pictures into a wider perspective I compare my results with the well known stereotype picturing of men with foreign background in media. I then discuss how or if this affects the young men?s picture of themselves and the majority society?s picture of them.

The aim with this Essay is to examine the two most read magazines in Sweden covering the areas of exercising, fitness, bodybuilding, diets and ?wellness? ?Fitness and Body. Fitness?s target group is predominantly woman, while Body is almost exclusively read by men. The analysis is first done quantitatively, by systematically categorising the contents of the magazines.

I detta arbete har jag valt att undersöka hur tre pedagoger använder sig av skönlitteratur i undervisningen i Svenska som Andraspråk och vilken betydelse de menar att skönlitteraturen har för dessa elever men också hur pedagogerna väljer de skönlitterära texter de använder i klassrummet. Med hjälp av olika teoretiska utgångspunkter och tre kvlitativa intervjuundersökningar har jag försökt besvara min frågeställning. Min undersökning har inte gett mig någon generell bild av hur pedagoger i allmänhet arbetar med skönlitteratur i andraspråksundervisningen, men jag har insett att det inte finns ett sätt som är bättre eller sämre än det andra. Man måste jobba utifrån sig själv och sina förutsättningar. Pedagogerna menar att genom skönlitteraturen får eleverna det innehåll som de behöver kognitivt, men på ett mindre komplext språk än i traditionella läromedel. Pedagogernas huvudmål med allt arbete de gör med skönlitteratur är förståelse..

To explore how children use dialect, and whether the dialectal language develops during growth might be of interest from a speech language pathologist?s point of view as the dialect could influence the child?s speech. Previous research is often based on older material and/or examines the speech of adults.  In the present study, everyday language in groups of south- eastern Swedish speaking children was investigated. The aim of the present study was to examine to what extent typically developed children of the ages of  5, 8 and 11 years use dialectal language. A further purpose was to discover which dialectal characteristics that were present in the different age groups, and how they differed.

Bakgrund: I Sverige ökar immigrationen för varje år; därmed söker sig fler individer som härstammar från andra länder och kulturer till den svenska sjukvården. Sverige har lagstiftat att hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal skall ge varje individ likvärdig sjukvård.Kommunikation utgör en viktig del i kontakten mellan patient och hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal. Språk- och kulturella barriärer kan leda till bristande sjukvård för patienten. Detta medför att sjukvårdspersonal kan uppleva att de gör ett sämre jobb vilket kan leda till frustration.Syfte: Syftet med studien var att belysa och utforska dietisters upplevelser av språk- och kulturella barriärer vid mötet med patienter med annat modersmål än svenska.Metod: Utifrån en kvalitativ forskningsmetod intervjuades sex kliniska dietister. Vid intervjuerna användes en semistrukturerad frågeguide.

ABSTRACT Within migration and globalization the concept of ethnic identity, religious identity and belonging have come to play a significant role in both immigrants? lives and as well in social context. Sweden, as a multicultural society has been dealing with different ethnic groups of immigrants and the way these minority groups perceive themselves to be and how they are perceived by others in the society has also come to be of high importance. By migrating people also change their position. They often occupy inferior positions in the society when they settle down in the new country.

Sammandrag Syftet med vår uppsats är att undersöka hur elever upplever regler i sin skolmiljö, där skolkultur och ungdomskultur möts varje dag. Underlaget har vi hämtat genom enkäter och intervjuer på fyra olika gymnasieskolor. Vi har valt att använda två olika metoder för att få ett bredare datorunderlag. Enkäter har gjort att vi fått ut svar som är kvantitativa medan intervjuerna har gett svar som är kvalitativa och har ett djup som man inte går att få ut av enkäter. Elever och lärares åsikter har gjorts synliga angående regler om media användandet, kläder och språk i skolan.

The purpose of this study is examine how Afghan women experience leadership in Afghanistan and how they perceive their existence and involvement in the country?s development?s process. The study is limited to the women leadership and its diffculties in the afghan culture, tradition and religion. Based on men?s and women?s perspective, I want to examine how they look at women?s leadership and its different problem in the afghan society.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to examine how the introducing of municipal library plans has influenced some compulsory schools in Malmö. I wanted to know if the library plan is a possible way to improve the quality of the school library. Through qualitative interviews with four school librarians and four headmasters, I investigate their knowledge of the library plan and their opinion of the possibilities to realize the directions of the plan. The theoretical framework is based on a model of organizational culture by Bakka, Fivelsdal and Lindkvist.

The following inquiry begins with one simple question: who is the margin? In other words, what is the referent of the term margin? Is it possible for language to capture connotations of an intended and supposed reality beyond its own limits? My supposition is that margin is a valuable concept to critical studies of the hegemonic order and dominant culture in various contexts. It is therefore necessary to expose the term itself to a critical analysis by attempting to trace its position in different discourses. The intention is to illustrate that the term margin is not merely an abstraction, confined within the framework of intricate theoretical rhetoric.In a deconstructive analysis of Gender Trouble by Judith Butler and Can the Subaltern Speak? by Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, based on the work of Jacques Derrida, I study the significance of the term margin and explore how the use or non-use of concrete examples affects the reception of both the term margin and ultimately the text as a whole.The study of these two texts reveals that some of the very same critique raised by Butler and Spivak is itself applicable to the authors? own theory production.
