This essay gives the reader an overview of the different problems and issues a landscape architect might meet, in the process of planning and realizing an eco-village. Its aim is to stimulate new ideas, based on the traditional, present and future working field of landscape architects. The essay does not claim to cover all imaginable aspects of social sustainability within an eco- village, but refers to the presented sources for further in-depth reading. Although the original focus has been on physical planning, the interviewees? words have been of big importance, and to a certain extent changed the constitution of this essay.

The objective was to examine the frequency of unwanted behaviors in the Swedish feline population and what factors in the environment, inheritance and past life that have an influence on the frequency. SLU?s web poll generator was used to create a web poll which insinuated that it was a poll with objective to make an inventory of the Swedish feline population. I wanted to avoid that only owners to cats with unwanted behaviors answered the poll. The web link to the poll was sent to SLUs students and posted on Internet forums for people interested in cats.

Environmental problems are accelerating with energy consumption and the release of greenhouse gases as the major issues. Background: Isolation care may be necessary when a patient is carrying infection or is being inflicted with disease that causes deficit immune system. Being isolated means that the patient is in a confined space and may stay only there. The purpose of this assignment at SSAB Tunnplåt in Borlänge was mainly to investigate and describe the circumstances for the spare parts stored in storage facilities within the area of operation. Even new facilities which could serve as storage rooms and their opportunities for storing spare parts were an important part of the investigation. This because of the need for improved storing of spare parts. Furthermore, market offers where reviewed for storage of spare parts in more tailored designs. The work will culminate in proposals for improvement which is of importance for the development surrounding the storage and handling of spare parts.

The present BSc thesis is part of a newly established collaboration between the Swedish zoo Skansen and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and constitutes of an inventory of the Nairobi Animal Orphanage (AO). As a refuge for wild animals found orphaned, abandoned or injured throughout Kenya, the AO has grown over the years and reached an unsustainable point where external help is needed for solutions and improvements. The aim of the inventory is to specifically consider the husbandry and enclosures of spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta), serval (Felis serval), Sykes? monkey (Cercopithecus albogularis) and vervet monkey (Chlorocebus aethiops) and with the aid of facts about the species, estimate how well their biological needs are satisfied. Different educational elements are also reviewed since one of the main purposes of the AO is for education.

Syftet med detta arbete har varit att analysera hur offentliga rum förändras i samband med omfattande stadsutveckling. Arbetet ska ge upphov till ny kunskap för hur offentliga rum i framtida nyetableringar och i närliggande bebyggelse kommer att användas. Det offentliga rummets användande har studerats i en litteraturstudie och i en empiri över Sundsvalls tätort. Sundsvall valdes som empiri eftersom staden står inför två spännande stadsbyggnadsprojekt i direkt geografisk anknytning till stadens centrum. Detta tillsammans med att Sundsvalls centrum, Stenstaden, är ett väldefinierat stadscentrum, som är tydlig i sin struktur, gör att staden fungerar bra som fallstudie.

Today most ice rinks in Sweden use secondary refrigeration systems with a solution of calcium chloride and water as secondary refrigerant. Due to the large amount of energy such a system uses more efficient systems would be desired.An earlier study concluded in the possibilities of using carbon dioxide as secondary refrigerant with copper tubes as the loops in the ice rink. Since then 3 ice rink refrigeration systems has been built with carbon dioxide in copper tubes. Excluding the ones being direct involved in those projects there is still very little knowledge about how these system works. This study has been made primarily with the aim of adding to the knowledge concerning availability and cost and secondary to look at possibilities for improvement.A comparison between systems with carbon dioxide, calcium chloride respective ammonium solved in water has been made by using Decision Matrix.

Tumble dryers and drying cabinets have to a large extent replaced the traditional way of drying clothes outdoors. They are faster, more convenient, require less space and can be operated regardless of weather conditions. This replacement has significantly increased residential energy consumption, due to the fact that tumbles dryers consume large amounts of electrical energy. In the USA 9 % of the households electric energy is consumed when drying clothes. Over 4 million tumble dryers are sold in Europe each year and 20 % of the residential electricity consumption in Sweden is used drying and washing clothes.

In this essay my aim is to examine how the term utanförskap is constructed and defined as a social problem in the public arena of the Swedish Parliament. The term utanförskap was widely used in the election-campaign prior to the Swedish Parliament election in the year 2006. The term, mainly articulated by the Right-wing Alliance, was used to describe indi-viduals and groups that were depicted as being outside the Swedish society. In the political debate, work and benefit dependency were constructed as binary opposites, with the latter describing the individuals in utanförskap. Translated to English the term utanförskap would be something like ?the state of being outside? or ?outsidership?.

Vid gestaltning av landskapsarkitektur finns en mängd aspekter att ta hänsyn till. Detta arbete undersöker om det finns teorier som kan stödja och inspirera i en sådan process. Huvudsyftet med arbetet var att ge oss kunskaper för att i framtiden kunna skapa välfungerande platser i ett gestaltande, funktionellt och socialt perspektiv. Uppsatsens mål var att läsa och förstå såväl klassiska verk som nutida författare och jämföra deras tankar. För att få en djupare förståelse för litteraturen har platsstudier utförts på två olika gaturum i Malmö. I en litteraturstudie sammanfattas litteraturen med hänsyn till de valda platserna. Genom att läsa litteratur, besöka och studera platserna har vi analyserat och fört ett resonemang kring våra frågeställningar: Finns det teorier som kan användas för att beskriva platser/gaturum och hur de används? Vad har dessa teorier gemensamt och på vilket sätt motsäger de varandra? Svaren på våra frågeställningar är att det finns många teorier för att beskriva platser/gaturum och hur de används.
