Title: Teaching improvisation in different musical genres My curiosity for teaching improvisation in different genres emerged when I started playing with musicians who had another musical background than my own. I wanted to acquire a better understanding of what improvisation means to them and how improvisation is taught in their genre. The aim of this study is to gain insight into four pedagogues' methods of teaching improvisation. The four pedagogues represent the genres of jazz, blues, organ music and folk music. I chose these four genres for two reasons.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine how two novels written by the Swedish author Pär Lagerkvist have been received by the critics in the Swedish daily press concerning their contemporary anchorage. During the time these novels were published, Pär Lagerkvist, through his authorship, expressed a conception of and an attitude towards contemporary political directions. The first of the two novels, The Hangman, was published in 1933, and the second, The Dwarf, in 1944. A second aim is to examine how the two novels contemporary anchorage is reflected in the reviews. The final aim is to examine whether the criticism differs depending on the ideological view of the newspapers.

Min önskan är att försöka belysa omständigheter som bidrar till att forma det musikaliska uttrycket och att försöka förstå hur informanterna tänker kring sitt musikaliska uttryck, olika typer av estetik, omgivningens påverkan och vilken roll högre musikutbildning spelar i dessa sammanhang. Den musikaliska kontexten för uppsatsen, i vilken informanterna är aktiva, är jazz och improvisationsbaserad musik men jag har i texten även valt att lyfta in exempel från andra typer av musik om jag känner att det belyser ämnet på ett bra sätt. Målsättningen är att presentera mina egna slutsatser utifrån informanternas svar och förhoppningsvis kommer denna uppsats kunna tjäna som underlag för diskussion och reflektion för studenter och lärare..

The aim of this Masters thesis is to deepen the understanding of how society affects literary criticism by studying the reception of two Swedish dystopian novels and their contemporary anchorage. The questions that we answer here are concerned with how critics have drawn parallels between the novels and events occurring in the contemporary society, and how the critics outlook on the future are connected to ideas about the future in the novels. The first novel, Kallocain 1940 by Karin Boye has been interpreted as a critical statement directed towards totalitarian ideologies. The second novel, After the Flood 1982 by P C Jersild, has been seen as a warning against nuclear warfare. This qualitative study is based on 41 reviews from Swedish daily press.

This thesis analyzes contemporary Swedish discourse on Russia, i.e. the ways Russia and Russians are perceived in Sweden today. After a summary of historical Western and Swedish perceptions of Russia, and a discussion about the treatment of these tensions within modern research, contemporary Swedish discourse is reconstructed based upon analytical articles in three major newspapers during the period 1992-2007. It is argued that the prevailing image of Russia contains the reproduction of old stereotypes and prejudices. The five major representations of Russia in contemporary Swedish discourse are: non-Western, unreliable, authoritarian, threatening and eternal, with the last one being a meta-representation functioning both as a representation of its own and a mechanism for the reification of the others.

En jämförande analys har gjorts av skivinspelningar från 1961 och framåt med trumslagarna Paul Motian, Jack DeJohnette och Jorge Rossy. Analysen behandlar rytmik, dynamik och klangfärg i två standardlåtar, All the things you are och Solar, och baseras på transkription i partiturform med avsikt att tydliggöra musikernas interaktion. Uppsatsen innefattar även en konstnärlig del i form av en inspelning, där jag tillsammans med en pianist och en basist framför tre standardlåtar. Dessa inspelningar diskuteras i relation till det analyserade materialet.

The essay explores nationalism in the curriculum of the swedish school from 1878 to 1994. The text has been undertaken an analysis in three levels of discourse based on Norman Faircloughs critical language analysis. The first level is the text, the second is types of discourses and the third is order of discourse.The nationalism in the curriculum has been related to three nationalistic types of discourses, derived from earlier studies on Swedish nationalism.
