I have always lived around mines and around people work­ing with mines. They are a natural part of my life and, inev­itably, a great interest of mine. When time came to make a decision for a degree project, focusing on the mine context felt as natural as breathing.In LKABs underground mines, safety in fire accidents is a great priority. Of outmost importance for the escape is to have a personal gas filter for filtration of smoke and/or gas. My design project resulted in a concept which is aimed at shortening the user journey from the start of the accident until the user has applied the personal safety solution and is ready to escape.Throughout the project I?ve been working with a context which is heavily regulated, and all problems are serious, important ones.

In order to evaluate different afforestation methods for exposed heath lands a field experiment was established in Mosfell on southern Iceland in 1989. The trial comprised six different site preparation methods (control, herbicide application, tree shelters, patch scarification, TTS trenching and mounding). In total 960 Container seedlings (1+0) and 960 Nisula roll transplants (2+1) of lodgepole pine were planted. Various planting positions (furrow, hinge, no site preparation (control) and on top of mounds) were tested within the site preparation treatments. This study involves renewed measurements and analyses of the trial.After 19 years the overall survival was 51,7 %.

Den ökade konsumtionen i samhället gör att vi producerar allt större mängder avfall. För att minska avfallets negativa effekter på hälsan och den omgivande miljön behövs en god avfallshantering. Ett steg mot ökade möjligheter att återanvända och återvinna material togs under 1980-talet, då befintliga soptippar började utvecklas till återvinningscentraler.Syftet med detta examensarbete är att jämföra utformningen och arbetsmiljön vid två nya återvinningscentraler, och även jämföra dem med tidigare studerade återvinningscentraler i Sverige. Dessutom ska ett förslag på utformning av framtidens återvinningscentral tas fram.Genom intervjuer och enkäter till besökare och anställda, samt observationer av besökare och av anläggningarna, kunde skillnader identifieras. I jämförelse med besökarna på de tidigare studerade återvinningscentralerna, så ansåg besökarna på de två nya att det var lättare att veta vilken Container avfallet skulle placeras i.

In order to facilitate testing of anesthesia machines a patient simulator has been required by Maquet Critical Care AB. A patient simulator has been developed to reduce expensive and time consuming animal experiments and temporary lab arrangements. The patient simulator has been developed and designed to simulate human lungs with regards to anesthetic uptake, production of carbon dioxide and heating and moisturizing exhaled air.The system comprises a Container and a test lung to simulate the volume and the dynamic of the human lung. The simulation of uptake of anesthetics has been implemented by pumping a fraction of the gas from the Container through a bypass circuit with an active charcoal filter that adsorbs volatile anesthetics. The flow through the bypass circuit is generated by a pump and is controlled by a linear valve.The resulting performance of the patient simulator has fulfilled the requirements.

Denna studie beskriver effekterna beträffande överlevnad och tillväxt hos gran (Picea abeis L. Karst) vid tillsats av superabsorbent Luquasorb 1280R i samband med plantering under olika betingelser. Plantor i form av täckrot och barrot studerades. Tillsats av superabsorbent visade sig ha en positiv inverkan på de studerade parametrarna i jämförelse med referensmaterial utan tillsats av superabsorbent. Detta visade sig särskilt vid extremförsök under tak utan tillgång till vattentillförsel under försöksperioden, förutom vattentillsats i samband med plantering..

En återbruksby (även kallad kretsloppspark) är ett område för hantering av återbrukbara material och produkter. Dagsläget för hur avfall hanteras och framtida planer beskrivs också i rapporten. Enligt EU direktiv skall återanvändning och återbruk öka för att främja miljön.

Composting is a process in which organic matter is mineralized by microorganisms. In January 2005 landfilling of organic waste was prohibited in Sweden. With this prohibition composting has become an important alternative to handle the produced organic wastes. One problem with continuous small-scale composting is the production of organic acids that will inhibit a further composting process. The aim of these theses was to study what effects temperature and dry matter content had on the production of organics acids, and what effect the organic acids had on the mineralisation of the substrate as well as the stability during storage of the product.

This thesis aims to find a more cost effective model for purchasing and logistics at asmall company. The studied company is a BMX (bicycle motocross) and MTB(mountain bike) retailer. The questions to be answered are: How large parties shouldbe ordered and what mode of transportation is to be used? A literature orientation ofthe field was followed by visits to the company, obtaining information from twodifferent logistics companies and interviews of four other companies in the sameindustry. The study shows that it´s difficult to develop an optimum order quantity fora small company since there often are other factors affecting how large amountshould be ordered.

Norrborns Industri AB in Bollnäs manufactures truck trailers with the brand Parator. One of their trailers is Parator LX 10-20. The trailer is designed to transport hooklift Containers with the option to tip loose goods such as gravel, asphalt and seed. The Container is mounted on a frame which is placed on the chassis. To reduce weight a redesign of the trailer is needed.

In recent time, agile methods have been devoted much attention, and the concept is widely used in the IT industry in particular. An increasing number of companies are interested in this way of working. The following report is the result of a study on the ability to create value for customers in business development through the use of agile methods. We ask what the advantages and limitations of agile methods are in the creation of customer value. Grounded Theory and an initial literature review was used to answer this question.

Ett steg i processen är optimeringav transmissionsnätet och investering i fler förnyelsebara energikällor, till exempel vinkraftparker.Vinkraftparker med enbart likströmsöverföring har lägre effektförluster än motsvarande växelström. Föratt ytterligare minska förluster i likströmsnät behöver spänningen ökas med DC/DC-omriktare. Syftet medstudien är att uppskatta vilken effekt en DC/DC-omriktare kan uppnå om den placeras i en 20? Containervid botten av ett vindkraftverk, detta under förutsättning att modern teknik används.Studien presenterar en modell av DC/DC-omriktare i en Container och beskriver hur beräkningarna harutförts.
