Long-term Storage of Starch Potato and its Effect on Starch Yield
Lyckeby Starch AB is a farmer-owned company that produces products based on potato
starch. In order to increase their production efficiency and their international Competitiveness
the company is investigating the possibilities of keeping their factories open longer. To
achieve this, potato has to be stored for a longer period of time than what is practiced today.
Starch potato is usually stored in large piles covered by straw and plastic, either in the field or
on the farmyard.
The objective was to examine in what way starch yield (starch content*tuber weight) in
three different potato varieties was affected by storage in two different types of storage piles.
The potato was stored for three months in total and starch content and tuber weight were
controlled throughout the period. Stored tubers were also visually examined and prescense of
mechanical damage as well as wet rots and dry rots was recorded. Bacteria and fungi were
isolated and identified.
In general, varietal differences were greater than differences between the storage piles.
IT has become more evident in most organisations and has grown to be a part of the infrastructure rather than a tool for Competitiveness. Therefore focus should now lie on how IT is adjusted to the business rather than on the usage of IT. To make the best use of IT in the business the CIO needs to start think more business-oriented instead of as before, technology-oriented. To develop the IT-department in that direction the IT-staff need to start cooperate with the business and gain knowledge about stakeholders, markets and the way of working for other staff members in the business. With this as a basis, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate attitudes regarding cooperation between the IT-department and the business and if there is any difference if the CIO has business related background or not.To fulfil the purpose a quantitative investigation with the help of surveys was conducted. The sample consisted of 18 companies with 100-200 employees in the area of Jönköping.

In 2007 Swedish Meats, the dominant Swedish meat-producers cooperative sold its slaughtering and processing industry. The goal of a producer cooperative structure is to create value for members through vertical integration, and to strengthen members? market position. When Swedish Meats sold the slaughtering and processing components, it ceased in some respects to serve the function of a cooperative. This is a lost opportunity for both members and non-members, because Swedish Meats as a functioning cooperative could have exploited its dominant market position to positively effect producer?s prices.

Market capitalism sets the conditions for how the world is conceived, experienced and organized at various spatial scales (global to local). Discourses of place marketing, place branding, and the construction of places as (economic) products, are part and parcel of the heightened commodification of space. Tourism has been a major factor in the commodification of place and space. More often than not, tourism has been seen as a possibility for peripheral places, in their struggle finding new ways towards development.

As the set of regulations also applies to the small companies, these are burdened by administrative costs that are disproportionate. The main principle is that all companies are under an obligation to statutory audit, however Member States may make audit exemptions for small companies.
