Implementation of renewable energy in the Republic of Moldova : society and landscape in transition
The Republic of Moldova, situated in eastern Europe and a former part of the Soviet Union, is now experiencing
a phase of transition in both society and landscape. They have hardly any fossil depots and
are currently dependent on Russian gas, with 97% of their energy needs imported. The new elected
government wants to move towards the EU and this is generally seen as the way to grow and reduce
poverty. Security in the energy sector is important and one tool is to increase the use of renewable
energy sources.
Through interviews, texts, and visits I have studied the implementation of renewable energies (RE) in
Moldova through a society development perspective. The study has aimed to investigate the sociotechnical
complexity of this subject and to discuss the potentials and way of dealing with the subject in
the specific cultural context of Moldova.

Addressing increasing global environmental problems requires greater resource efficiency, and one way of working towards this is through industrial symbiosis. Industrial symbiosis means that companies collaborate through sharing of resources for collective benefits. The documented benefits of working with industrial symbiosis indicate that there is potential for companies to operate commercially with facilitation of industrial symbiosis. An interesting company to study within this context is Econova. Econova operates within the recycling and gardening industry and has been identified as a possible catalyst for industrial symbiosis.
Miljösystemanalys av VA-system i omvandlingsområden : fallstudie i Värmdö kommun
Wastewater handling of private sewage systems has become an all increasing matter. In Stockholm region the 90 000 private sewage systems contribute with larger phosphorus flows to the Baltic Sea than the two biggest sewage plants in the area, Henriksdal and Käppala, contribute together, even though these two plants purify wastewater from more than one million inhabitants.
When summer house areas turn into areas for permanent living ? transition areas ? the load on the existing systems increases, systems that already often are unsatisfying. In those areas it is not clear what the best system choice is; On-site systems for single households; Local collective systems or Connection to central systems.

Collaborating for Corporate Social Responsibility : the case of conflict minerals in global supply chains
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to adjusting corporate goals so that they are not only based on maximizing corporate profits, but include ethical standards on socially desirable behavior (Boatright, 2008). Even though many companies have integrated CSR into their business operations, there are still many issues that are difficult to tackle. Especially Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in the global business environment face many challenging situations due to the fact that they often have linkages to countries where the local government is either unwilling or unable to take care of its responsibilities.
MNCs often find themselves with increased responsibilities when they start solving some of the issues that earlier have been the sole responsibility of states. A specific case situation discussed in this paper is related to ?conflict minerals?.
Mind the gap : the possibilities of the public space in the contemporary city
Mind the gap encourages you to beware of the interspaces. The project seeks to
defend the gaps that occur in time and space and encourages the reader to care
about the interruptions of the routine-like and planned, whilst also opening up a
discussion about interaction and participation. Mind the gap is a project about the many
opportunities the public space has in the contemporary city. What you have in front of
you is the result of this project.
As society constantly changes, new and different needs arise in the city and it is
necessary that architects and planners understand and adapt to these changes.
They have to be able to develop new ways of thinking and to challenge established
perceptions of what the public space is and should be. This means being able to see
that the public space could be different and to recognize the potentials for it to change.
This project examines the underlying ideals of urbanism and investigates
the potentials of the City when shaped by these ideals.
