Several studies show that the clinical reality in psychiatric care does not correspond to the demand of consumer participation from a variety of policy documents that has been produced recently. Studies also show that there is a lot to do in improving, patients with sever mental illness, becoming more involved in their own care. The nurse has a central role in this work. The Norwegian nursing theorist Jan-Ka?re Hummelvolls holistic, existentialistic model for psychiatric nursing were used as theoretical ground.The aim of this study was to examine how nurses in psychiatric outpatient units, caring for patients with psychotic disorders, experiences consumer participation.Qualitative phenomenological method was used.

In today?s technological society, there are increasingly less physical demands on the locomotor system. However, despite that notion strength and function in the hand?s complex biomechanical system are in fact both needed to cope with daily life. The grip function is a main function in the hand and is used in many examples of scientific research, for instance when assessing physical health and predicting the probabilities of premature mortality.

Bakgrund: Snabb kunskapsutveckling, ökade krav på kvalité och kostnadseffektivitet inom hälso- och sjukvården gör det viktigt att sjuksköterskor har god förmåga att söka och använda evidensbaserad kunskap. Idag finns ett glapp mellan forskning och klinik. Sjuksköterskor upplever flera hinder till att arbeta evidensbaserat. Under hösten 2010 och våren 2011 pågick ett projekt på ett sjukhus i en stad i mellansverige. Projektet hette ?Klinisk bibliotekarie?, syftet var att höja vårdkvalitén och patientsäkerheten genom att det dagliga vårdarbetet ska bli mer evidensbaserat och att sjuksköterskorna ska känna större säkerhet i att ta fram vetenskapligt underlag för sitt arbete.Syfte: Belysa sjuksköterskornas erfarenhet av projektet ?Klinisk bibliotekarie?.Metod: Studien har en kvalitativ design.

Piglet survival is a problem of great significance in pig production, affecting both animal welfare and economic aspects negatively. In Sweden it is illegal to use farrowing crates for sows on regular basis. To encounter this problem there is a proposal of an animal welfare program to allow the use of crates for sows during, and a number of days after, farrowing. The proposal aims to reduce piglet mortality and improve pig welfare. This present review aims to analyse how crating affects the welfare of sows, gilts and piglets as well as piglet mortality.

ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to investigate the clinical application to use ASSR in anesthetized childrenDesignOne main ambition of the investigation was to compare hearing threshold using ABR with estimated hearing threshold using ASSR. Another aim was to examine if the duration of an ASSR measurement could be reduced by only using the frequencies 1, 2 and 4 kHz and exclude the frequency 0.5 kHz. This is a retrospective study using electrophysiological measurement from a database.ResultResults showed a high correlation between hearing threshold using ABR and estimated thresholds using ASSR, with the frequency 0.5 kHz showing a slightly lower correlation. Result also showed that the test duration was increased when using all test frequencies in ASSR-measurement compared to when 0.5kHz was excluded. ConclusionThe study showed a high correlation when comparing hearing threshold using ABR and ASSR.

Background: Prostate cancer is the fourth most common cancer disease in the world and affects mainly older men. While having prostate cancer the treatment can be both medical and surgical and both these treatments can give side effects like erectile dysfunction, lost libido and hot flushes. Sexuality among elderly is often associated with taboo, but sexuality exists among elderly and is important for their wellbeing and quality of life. It is common that nurses don?t address and discuss questions concerning sexuality with patients, even though they know that sexuality often is affected while having a disease or experiencing illness.

Handledning av sjuksköterskestudenter är ett komplext arbete som kräver tid och. Handledare upplever brist på stöttning från kollegor och avdelningschef. Det är önskvärt om kollegor är villiga att ta över en del av patientomvårdnande så att handledare får mer tid för handledning av studenter under verksamhetsförlagd utbildning [Vfu]. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att belysa studenthandledning under Vfu där studenters och handledares uppfattningar belyses. Litteraturstudien består av 20 artiklar vilka analyserats utifrån studiens syfte och delats in i två teman utifrån handledares och studenters uppfattningar.

Over the past decade there has been considerable debate in the media concerning the necessity of educating parents in how to be better parents, and strengthening their parental role. This question has also been debated at a national level, resulting in the state commissioning a number of official investigations into the problems that parental education could resolve. A growing body of scientific studies have shown that parental-educational programmes play a strong role in preventing behavioural problems amongst children and teenagers. Many Councils in Sweden already offer these parental courses to their citizens, but discussions are ongoing as to whether these courses should be obligatory for all parents before or near to the moment that they begin to have children. This conclusion has been supported by the official investigations commissioned to look into this issue.

Scintigraphic examination of the esophagus has for some time been the method of choice for the study of motility dysfunction in humans. The method has not yet been described for horses hence the lack of reference values for passage time for a bolus through the esophagus in healthy subjects. The purposes of this study were to measure passage velocity and time for a bolus to pass through the esophagus in healthy subjects, as well as to evaluate the reproducibility of the method. Eight warm-blooded trotters were used in the study. The horses were sedated with a low dose of Acepromazine prior to onset of the study.

Physiotherapists treat people with different views of the world and medical beliefs, which require a good understanding of cultural differences. One way to achieve cultural understanding is through self-reflection in a new context. During five weeks the authors, two physiotherapy students, completed a clinical practice at the rehabilitation center Pina Palmera, Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico. At the beginning of the period a critical incident was chosen, when the head physiotherapist for the ward Cuidados Especiales intended to sell jewellery to the authors during a treatment of a patient. The authors have by using the reflection framework "Framework to guide reflective process", and Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) for analysis, discussed different ways of communication, adherence, education, and self-reflection and critical thinking.

Bakgrund: Dagens forskning visar på att det finns en oengihet om orsaken bakom fibromyalgi. Ålder, etnicitet eller social status spelar ingen roll, alla kan drabbas, dock finns det forskning som visar att kvinnor drabbas oftare än män.. De mest framträdanden symtomen är värk, stelhet och trötthet. Den behandling som erbjuds denna patientgrupp är oftas symtomlindrande behandling.Syfte: Att beskriva upplevelsen av mötet med vården för patienter med fibromyalgi.Metod: Författarna har valt att göra en litteraturöversikt av åtta vetenskapliga artiklar som har fokus på patienters upplevelse av att leva med fibromyalgi och mötet med vården. Författarna valde Joyce Travelbees omvårdnadsteori med fokus på kommunikation och mellanmänskliga relationer.Resultat: Resultatet visar att patienter med fibromyalgi upplever att sjukvårdspersonal ifrågasätter deras trovärdighet och inte tar deras problem på allvar.

Det är av vikt att professioner har en teoretisk grund att luta sig mot och att teorin införlivas i praktiken. Inom arbetsterapin försvåras detta av att professionen har brottats med paradigmskiften, vilket i sin tur har bidragit till en stor mängd av tyst kunskap inom yrket. Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva hur arbetsterapeuter i den kliniska verksamheten resonerar kring användandet av arbetsterapeutisk teori, främst vid användandet av processer och modeller. Sju arbetsterapeuter intervjuades i denna kvalitativa studie. De delgav sina tankar och resonemang angående användandet av arbetsterapeutisk teori i arbetet.

Background Swedish nurses are required by law to document nursing care. Studies have proved scarce in nursing documentation with regard to written language, the nursing process and the nurse´s caring perspective. Educating nurses in using the VIPS model have improved nursing documentation. Few studies have included nursing documentation of psychiatric care.Aim The aim of this study was to describe nursing documentation within psychiatric care of inpatient settings.Method A quantitative, retrospective descriptive research design was applied. A total of 60 nursing journals from a psychiatric department of six wards were studied.

Bakgrund: Humor är ett fenomen som genom historien haft varierande betydelse för människan. Inom omvårdnaden har kunskapen om humor ökat de senaste de-cennierna och lyfts fram som ett socialt redskap i kommunikation och relation mellan sjuksköterska och vårdtagare. Hemsjukvården är en vårdform där det upp-står en tät kontakt mellan sjuksköterska och vårdtagare och där humorn därför är viktig att uppmärksamma. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att undersöka sjukskö-terskans upplevelse av förutsättningar för humor och humorns betydelse i mötet med vårdtagare i hemsjukvården. Metod: Studien utfördes som en kvalitativ em-pirisk studie med datainsamling via semistrukturerade intervjuer.

Objective: To determine the frequency of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria from healthy Swedish dogs and whether they are carriers of methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Material: Samples from skin from the perineal region and from faeces collected in the anus with cottonswab (Copan) from 299 healthy Swedish dogs. Samples were collected at dog exhibitions. Method: Specimens were submitted for bacterial culture where bacteria (Escherichia coli, enterococci and staphylococci) were isolated and identified by current methods. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed with a microdilution method where MIC-values were determined. Staphylococci with high degree of resistance were tested for presence of mecA-gene by PCR.
