Urban spaces and urban life in Ărestad South - vĂ€gen genom ett tĂ€vlingsprogram och fram till förslag :
Abstract
This master thesis is a result of the work thas was done for my entry in the international architectural competition Urban spaces and urban life in Ărestad South, that was announced by Ărestadselskabet on the 31st of October 2006.
The project work lasted from early November until the deadline on 14th of February.
In addition to the proposal that was handed in, the master thesis consists of a number of
reflections about the work that was done and design work in general.
The proposal is an answer to a not that evident task. One would expect that the assigment was clearly defined in the brief of the competition like this. And so it seems to do but to define the real assignment and join your own aims to it from such an extensive brief can be quite time consuming.
Why do architects participate and what is an architectural competition?
How does the brief affect the choices and statements made by the entrants?
What is a square?
What is the strategy that leads to a convincing concept? The role and use of a concept in the design process.

The goal with this study have been to investigate how teachers in physical education perceive health as a concept, and how they choose to work with in the classes they teach. Health as a concept can be somewhat diffuse and as the Swedish curriculum doesn?t define the concept the teacher are given a freedom in interpreting what health is and how it will be taught to the students. This makes it interesting to study if teachers perceive health differently and if that affect what they are teaching their students.I used interviews as a method to answer my questions and the results show that there wasn?t much difference between the teachers in how they perceive health and how, and what, they teach their students.

We have also studied several factors that can affect their choices of sources. We have interviewed eight news journalists from the two largest local news papers Barometern and Ăstran in Kalmar. The journalists were asked about the sources they often use as interview objects. They were supposed to tell about how they think when choosing sources and define which sources they commonly use. There are different factors that can affect the choices and we have narrowed them down to ethics, source critics, credibility, stress, hard production conditions, public and their own interest and if they consider themselves to be individualistic or controlled by the news desks. Furthermore the journalists were asked to characterize what changes they would make when choosing sources in a perfect world. All of the journalists had not reflected prominently on the subject of sources before our research.
