Denna uppsats har till syfte att redogöra för Generation Y och vad Karlstads kommun bör tänka på i kommande rekrytering av denna målgrupp. Generation Y trädde in på arbetsmarknaden runt millennieskiftet och förväntas nu ta över efter den stora andel äldre som snart lämnar sina arbeten och blir pensionärer. Till följd av att det föreligger ett stort rekryteringsbehov inom kommunal verksamhet under kommande tioårsperiod såg vi här ett problemområde som var intressant att forska vidare i. I arbetet med att klargöra attribut som är signifikativt för just Generation Y föll det sig naturligt att också se vad som kännetecknar tidigare generationer för att på så sätt reda ut vad som skiljer dessa åt. Studien är uppbyggd på en kvalitativ intervjustudie som utgörs av sju halvstrukturerade forskningsintervjuer.

Ett arbetgivarvarumärke syftar till att organisationen bygger upp ett varumärke som arbetsgivare för att lättare kunna attrahera och behålla rätt kompetens. Det är viktigt att organisationen anpassar sitt arbetsgivarvarumärke för att attrahera och behålla generation Y som medarbetare då den yngre generationen kommer in på arbetsmarknaden i allt större utsträckning de kommande åren. Studien syftar till att öka förståelsen för hur arbetsgivare inom den offentliga sektorn kan arbeta med arbetsgivarvarumärken gentemot generation Y för att bli attraktiv som arbetsgivare. Utifrån studiens teoretiska referensram, som utgår från teori om generation Y och arbetsgivarmärken, har kvalitativa intervjuer genomförts. I studien diskuteras vilka strategier och utmaningar som finns inom den offentliga sektorn för att attrahera och behålla generation Y som medarbetare.

Generation Y skiljer sig mycket från andra generationer på grund av uppfostran och samhällsförändring. Deras intåg på arbetsmarknaden tvingar arbetsgivare att anpassa sig till nya krav och förväntningar. Mot bakgrund i detta var studiens syfte att studera generation Ys arbetsmotivation. Målsättningsteorin tillämpades i form av variablerna målsvårighet, målspecificitet, självbemästring och feedback. En enkätundersökning med 70 respondenter mellan 20 och 32 år genomfördes. Regressionsanalyser visade att 34 % av variansen i arbetsmotivation förklaras genom målsättning.

Denna undersökning söker nå förståelse för lojalitet i förhållande till arbetsplatsen när man jämför Generation Y med Baby Boomers. Tidigare forskning visar att lojalitet är ett multidimensionellt begrepp som kan ha olika riktningar och att flera faktorer har ett samband med lojalitet. Tidigare forskning kring generationsskillnader och lojalitet är begränsad men många studier tyder på att Generation Y är mindre lojala än Baby Boomers. Undersökningen är gjord på Veolia Transport och bygger på djupintervjuer med fyra Baby Boomers tunneltågförare och tre från Generation Y. I resultatet framkom trivsel, motivation, bild av företaget, ledarskapet och organisationskultur som viktiga faktorer för lojalitet, och undersökningsdeltagarna från Generation Y tenderade att vara mindre lojala, ha kortare tidsperspektiv på sin anställning och ett mer individualiserat förhållningssätt till lojalitet än de från Baby Boomers.

Globaliseringen och Internet har bidragit till förändrade kommunikationsmönster vilket i sin tur också har påverkat generationerna. Vilket även gör att företagen till viss del då måste anpassa sig efter det eventuellt förändrade konsumtionsbeteendet.Problemformulering: Vilka kommunikationsstrategier är viktiga för företagen att implementera för att de skall kunna tillgodose nya konsumtionsmönster och öka utsikterna för en långsiktig överlevnad?Syfte: Syftet är att genom en analys av Generation Y:s konsumtionsmönster utvärdera förutsättningar för företags kommunikationsstrategier.Metod: Undersökningen har både en kvantitativ och kvalitativ ansats. Metodtriangulering sker på generation Y.

Individernas föreställningar beskrivs på ett djupare plan genom individernas olika bakgrunder.Slutsats Ett antal föreställningar var möjliga att se i det genererade materialet. Det individcentrerade perspektivet var framträdande, men även delar av det kontextuella perspektivet markerades.

Syftet med uppsatsen har varit att undersöka om Generation Y ställer krav på kommunikation iinteraktionen mellan dem och deras chefer, och om kommunikationen de efterfrågar är envägs- eller tvåvägskommunikation. Vidare har uppsatsen berört om detta krav på kommunikation är någonting som efterfrågas av medarbetarna i Generation Y när det kommer till chefers hantering av löskopplingen mellan den informella och formella strukturen i organisationer. Teoretisk utgångspunkthar varit institutionell teori och kommunikation samt studier om Generation Y. Metoden som använts för insamling av empirisk data har varit enkätundersökning och personlig intervju, vilka främst utgått ifrån medarbetarperspektivet. Resultatet av studien visar att det Generation Y vill ha en tvåvägskommunikation med sin chef, både när det gäller det dagliga arbetet och när det gäller organisationens långsiktiga arbete..
