This project started with an exploration of geometric shapes and textile materials. It resulted in a Chair made out of textile bands with different elasticity. The surface for sitting is flat when the Chair is not used, and changes in the moment you sit down and gets a new shape. A piece of furniture that adapts to each individual. The Chair emphasizes the important relationship between human and product as the person using it becomes a part of the Chair for a moment..

A Chair thatwill raise questions regarding added value, questioning oursurroundings and not taking things for granted. Through anumber of properly selected words, I have built a collectionof objects that possess the basis of a Chair. The words arebased on sources of inspiration; I picked up over the yearsand can be seen as a part of me and my inner self. This is a dissertation for a Bachelor Degree Project at the University of Skövde. The project is carried out in cooperation with the company Kinnarps AB.The objective of this project was to develop a new Chair for café and lunch rooms, which should satisfy the markets expectations and demands and match Kinnarps AB?s assortment today. The project has contained everything from identification of user and customer needs and requirements to evaluation and building of a prototype.The result is a Chair with a frame of tubular steel and there is nothing like it in Kinnarps AB?s assortment today.

The author contacted designers Claesson Koivisto Rune Arkitektkontor in August 2007regarding his Master thesis at KTH. The company had discussed the possibility of creating aChair made from molded pulp. The author was taken on as a manager for the project. Theobjective was to produce design documentation for a paper pulp Chair which was to belaunched at the in 2008 Milan Furniture Fair. The purpose of the thesis was to develop aproduct with scientific methods as well as to investigate how to make collaboration betweendesigners and engineers easier through communication.The project went through four basic stages: Information, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation.Information on paper pulp, molded pulp, Chair design, sitting postures and the existingmarket of molded pulp furniture.

The aim of this project was to develop a product which gives one or more objects of daily use an additional function. Thru the creativity of children the object shall transform into a new source for play for pre-school children.The purpose of this work was to research how fantasy and free play of children could be enhanced. I wanted to know how I can motivate children to use their fantasy transforming objects into new sources for play.This was achieved by means of developing a number of different prototypes which I tested in Kindergarden. My observations lead to the development of a cloth-wrap for the Chair which provides the required source for ongoing role-play. The Chair suddenly transforms into a new landscape and multi-purpose object where children?s fantasy is stimulated and creative play is supported..

The Sitting while waiting for sustainability project goal was to make a functional model for a resting Chair and to make it by using furniture and artefacts as material. A try of understanding the process of re-design and to use it to design was driving the project through. The result was a prototype made out of a bed frame and 18 pair of jeans and with details made out of leather..

The purpose of my project was to explore variability. I wanted to combine different ways of sitting and create some kind of seating furniture that could be changed to fit different kinds of situations and needs. I sought after a way to express safety and stability in the seating furniture and at the same time make it clear that it could be changed into something else or something more. It was very important to me that the furniture piece would have a long lifetime and would be something you kept for a long period of time. I decided that the changeable factor in my piece would be the possibility to change it from being a Chair for one person into being a bench for two people.

The purpose of my report is to create an interest in hand caning and different caning patterns, both for professionals and interested laymen. My hope is that they will use my report as a guide and an inspiration, for techniques such as braiding a cane seat. I also discuss how better to preserve cane furniture and different ways in which to finish it. Weaving is easier than you might believe.Today many people discard old and inherited furniture with elements of hand caning because it is too costly to have it repaired by a professional. Some people also remove the cane work and replace it with upholstery and fabric.

Jag har som examensarbete på master-nivå formgivit en sittmöbel med utgångspunkt från min uppväxt i Dalarna. Målet har varit att göra en filosofisk tolkning av mina minnen samt en hyllning till regionen, i synnerhet Borlänge där jag växt upp.Jag har under projektets gång gjort en resa både på ett mentalt och rent fysiskt plan tillbaka till den plats jag växt upp för att utforska mina minnen och därigenom skapa en plattform för mitt designarbete.För att nå mitt resultat har jag använt mig av designmetoder som ITK, intervjuer, skisser, studiebesök, materialtester, mockups samt modelleringsverktyget Rhino.Resultatet är en stol inspirerad av saker som bland annat Ornäs stugan och musikkulturen i Borlänge. Stolen består av en metallkonstruktion, trädetaljer vid fötterna samt armstöden och en sits i läder.For my thesis work on postgraduate level, I have designed a Chair based on my upbringing in Dalarna.
