Hypertrofisk kardiomyopati hos Maine coon katter :

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common heart disease in Cats. Maine coon is one of the breeds where the disease is overrepresented. Studies have shown that HCM is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait in Maine Coon Cats. This finding has led to cardiac screening using ultrasound in the breed. The results of the screening are used in a national breeding program constructed to reduce the spread and incidence of HCM in Maine Coon Cats.

Kattens naturliga beteende och hantering av katt på klinik

This literature study investigates the natural behaviour of the cat and handling of Cats in the clinic. A presentation of tactile, olfactory, visual and acoustic communication is given. The reproductive behaviour of the cat is explained and the development of kittens is described. The study highlights hunting behaviour, territory structures and social life of Cats. The report also includes practical instructions to how the environment and handling of Cats in clinics can be improved..

Indirekt blodtrycksmätning hos hund och katt :

The objective of this study was to study the agreement between two methods of indirect bloodpressure measurement in dogs and Cats and to establish the within-method variation for the methods. The utility and practicality in the clinical setting were also evaluated for the both methods. The techniques evaluated were the oscillometric method and the Doppler ultrasonographic method. Thirtytwo dogs and 26 Cats were used in the study and seven dogs and five Cats out of these animals had diseases that may effect the bloodpressure. Bloodpressure was measured in both anesthetized and in conscious animals.

Hypertrofisk kardiomyopati hos en familj brittiska korthårskatter :

The objectives of this study was to examine the prevalence of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in a family of British ShorthairCats to determine the mode of inheritance and to investigate if the disease was associated with a mutation in myosin binding proteinC (MyBPC3). The family comprised 28 Cats, seven male and 21 females. The Cats underwent a physical examination, including cardiac auscultation, and an ultrasound examination. Blood was collected for DNA- analysis. The blodsamples were sent in a buffer solution to Kathryn Meurs, Washington State University, USA for analysis, where the genes coding for MyBPC, Troponin I and T were characterized using microsequencing technique. Out of the 28 Cats, 8 were diagnosed with HCM, 2 were diagnosed with congenital heart disease but had no evidence of HCM.

Förekomst av MyBP-C mutationer hos katter med hypertrofisk kardiomyopati :

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most commonly diagnosed cardiac disease in Cats. The phenotype varies from mild focal thickening to severe concentric hypertrophy at the left ventricle. Two separate myosin binding protein C (MYBPC3) mutations have been identified in Maine coon Cats (A31P and A74T) and one in Ragdoll Cats. All three of them seem to cause familial HCM in an autosomal dominant pattern. The purpose of this study was to investigate the presence of these three mutations in population Cats of different breeds with HCM in Sweden. The results may show if HCM is present in the absence of these mutations.

Blödningsbenägenhet hos bengalkatter :

During the years 2005-2007 several cases of abnormal bleeding were seen after surgery in Bengal Cats on veterinary clinics and animal hospitals in Sweden. In this study we have examined if the observed bleedings are due to an inherited defect of the coagulation cascade. Ten Bengal Cats were tested for activated partial thromboplastin time (P-APT-time) and one-stage protrombin time (P-PK), and nine of these Cats were tested for fibrinogen quantity (P-fibrinogen). Four of the tested Cats had shown signs of an abnormal bleeding after surgery, and five of the Cats were genetically related to these Cats. One cat had a small bleeding wound at the internal base of the right auricle.

Läkemedel som förebygger och behandlar trombos hos hund och katt

Several diseases increase the risk of thrombosis in dogs and Cats, often with a fatal outcome. Currently there are no definite treatment guidelines for the use of thrombolytic and thromboprofylactic agents in veterinary medicine. None of these drugs are approved for dogs and Cats in Sweden. Medicines aimed for humans have been used tentatively. This literature study is an investigation of what is currently known about the effects and safety of these pharmacological agents when used for dogs and Cats.

Retinoskopi av katter : en validerande studie av undersökningsmetoden på katt

Retinoscopy, also known as skiascopy, is an objective method for assessing therefraction of the eye. This method has been used for a long time, both in animalsand human patients. According to the literature, it has been postulated that it is notnecessary to obtain cycloplegia before the examination in lower mammals. Someauthors even mention that it can make the examination more difficult. Therefore itis not recommended.

Validering av smärtformulär för katt

The objective of this study was to assess validity and reliability for five different owner-completed instruments evaluated to assess chronic musculoskeletal pain in Cats. All of the instruments were questionnaires, three asking about behavioral changes, one about the degree of pain and one about quality of life. One of the instruments was written originally in Swedish, the other four instruments were translated into Swedish before use. Data available were records from 57 Cats with no signs of pain and 11 Cats with different pain-related diagnoses. The diagnoses were ensured by clinical examination including palpation and manipulation of joints, gait testing on a force-plate and X-ray scans. Instrument 1 was completed by 57 pain-free and 11 pain-affected Cats.

Katten i Bilderboken - Hur gestaltas katten i bilderboken och vad säger det oss?

The purpose of this essay is to look at how the depiction of Cats is performed in childrens? picture books. I will analyze eight pictures from four different books, two from each. The books are from two different decades: from the 1960s and from the 2000s.My ambition is to see if there are any artistic or cultural differences when comparing the two decades? depictions of Cats to each other.

Indirekt blodtrycksmätning på katt : påverkan av metod, miljö och ålder

The purpose of the present study was to study if the systemic blood pressure in Cats significant increases due to stress associated with a visit to a veterinarian clinic. We also wanted to investigate the clinical utility of two different methods for indirect blood pressure measurements in Cats by assessing how easy they were to use and how reliable measurements they provided. The methods that were used were oscillometric (Memo Diagnostic) and ultrasound-doppler technique (Minidop). The blood pressure was measured in both clinical environment and home environment. Fifty Cats were used in the study, from which measurements were impossible to obtain in one cat.

Kronisk hjärtsvikt hos katt

This student report is a literature study about cardiac insufficiency in Cats and it is written mainly for veterinary nurses. It is about Cats with an underlying heart disease that has led to an incompensated heart failure. It presents a general basis on normal anatomy and physiology, and also how to make the diagnosis, therapy and intensive care. The student report is also about the role of the veterinary nurse during the process of the disease, how to help the veterinarian in the best way, how to handle anesthesia in Cats with a heart disease, which factors that can have a significant matter in feeding, and what advices to give to a pet owner with a cat with a incompensated heart failure..

Hur väljer man lämpliga SNP för produktion av SNP-chip?

The objective was to examine the frequency of unwanted behaviors in the Swedish feline population and what factors in the environment, inheritance and past life that have an influence on the frequency. SLU?s web poll generator was used to create a web poll which insinuated that it was a poll with objective to make an inventory of the Swedish feline population. I wanted to avoid that only owners to Cats with unwanted behaviors answered the poll. The web link to the poll was sent to SLUs students and posted on Internet forums for people interested in Cats.

Prevalens av subkliniskt smittade katter med vingelsjuka i Göteborg jämfört med Uppsala :

Borna disease virus (BDV) is a virus with capability to cause neurological disease in several species of mammals and of ostriches. Also humans are suspected to be susceptible to the virus, as the viral RNA and antibodies against BDV have been found in some humans with psychiatric diseases, like schizophrenia and depression. In Sweden there is a disease called staggering disease in Cats, associated to BDV-infection. This disease often has a fatal progress. Definite diagnosis is reached by histo-pathological and immunohistochemical examination of the central nervous system.

Behövs kattetologer på djursjukhus i Sverige? :

Behaviour problems are often behaviours that cat owners don´t like, but are normal to the cat. The reason to why cat owners experience certain feline behaviours as problematic is probably due to the current practice in cat housing. The ways that Cats are kept today causes somewhat of a compromise between cat and owner and inhibits the expressions of the cat's natural and normal behaviour. The cat owners may misunderstand their Cats behaviour, for example the cat owners believe that their Cats perform certain behaviours because of feelings of guilt, hate, revenge or maybe to protest against something or someone. An animal hospital may help solve behaviour problems, but also help the cat owners to undstand their cat´s behaviour in an other perspective. The aim of this study is to investigate the need of a cat ethologist in animal hospitals.
