Virulent strains of Staphylococcus hyicus produce exfoliative toxins and cause a potentially fatal skin disease in piglets known as exudative epidermitis. Vaccines and antimicrobials are used to control the disease. Antimicrobial resistance and the prevalence of several different toxin genes and toxigenic strains make it problematic. The aim of this literature study was to identify potential differences between countries and between healthy and diseased pigs regarding antimicrobial resistance and toxin-producing strains. Great differences could influence vaccine production, treatment strategies and surveillance programs.

Cancer är en sjukdom som drabbar många. Den medicinska behandlingen är ofta invasiv och både sjukdomen och behandling kan lämna djupa spår. Fler och fler komplementära behandlingar blir tillgängliga och en öppenhet från sjukvård och patienter gentemot dessa behandlingar blir tydligare. Studier visar att sjuksköterskor upplever att komplementära behandlingar är användbara i sitt arbete med patienterna, speciellt taktil massage. Det finns dock lite forskning om patienters upplevelse av komplementära behandlingar, ett perspektiv som är viktigt för sjuksköterskan att få ta del av.

Introduction : Structural cardiac malformations affects 0.8-1% of children born worldwide, in Sweden 800-1000 children per year. Most children with congenital heart disease and their families will have frequent and lifelong contact with highly specialized care. Awareness of the parents experience is crucial in order to improve the nursing care. These experiences will be illustrated using a theoretical model of family-based nursing. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe experiences of being a parent to a child with a congenital heart disease.

Syfte: Syftet med denna litteratur?versikt ?r att unders?ka det vetenskapliga underlaget f?r huruvida totalt flavonoidintag fr?n kosten p?verkar totalmortalitet bland vuxna med diagnostiserad cancer vid baslinje. Metod: Denna systematiska litteratur?versikt analyserar prospektiva kohortstudier som unders?ker sambandet mellan flavonoidintag och totalmortalitet. De s?kord som anv?ndes var "flavonoid intake", "flavanol intake", "cancer mortality" och "cancer survival". Det genomf?rdes en systematisk litteraturs?kning i databaserna PubMed och Scopus, f?ljt av en dataextration.

Bakgrund: I Sverige är cancer en av de främsta dödsorsakerna bland kvinnor. Genom att få ett livshotande besked, som att drabbas av cancer, kan individens livsvärld bli påverkad. Beskedet kan leda till att individen genomgår en kris. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att beskriva hur yngre och medelålders kvinnor lever sitt liv efter en cancerdiagnos. Metod: Studiens metod var beskrivande och genomfördes med kvalitativ innehållsanalys av självbiografier.

Background: Coronary heart disease kills more than 7 million people worldwide each year. High levels of blood fat, cholesterol, contributes significantly to coronary heart disease. Lifestyle changes combined with lipid-lowering drugs, statins, is an effective treatment. But adherence to statins is low, not even a myocardial infarction always contributes to adherence. Adherence requires patient education and good communication between patient and physician.

Tourism is often being viewed as one of the worlds largest sectors and a great contribution to growth and development. There is a large motivation amongst developing countries to promote themselves as a tourist destination, since they expect the tourism to generate economic growth. The government of Thailand has been promoting tourism since 1960, and the number of foreign visitors has increased from 100 000 back then to 13.5 million in 2006. The purpose of this paper was to investigate weather the increasing tourism industry in Thailand has pulled resources away from other sectors of the economy towards the tourism sector, and in that way harming Thailand?s international competitiveness and causing deindustrialization.

The canine population has during it?s time with humans gone through at least 2 major genetic bottlenecks, the first when it was separated from the wolf, and the second when it was divided into different breeds. Among other things, this has lead to the accumulation of unwanted genes, such as genes causing disease in dogs. One such inherited disease is syringomyelia, which has proven to be more common than expected, especially in certain smaller breeds such as the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Syringomyelia in dogs is often a secondary condition caused by the malformation called occipital hypoplasia.

Background: Fibromyalgia is a disease wich involve cronic pain and fatigue. The disease has appeared for a long time, but it has resently become possible to diagnose. It is still unclear what cause the disease, and the treatment of it is therefore still diffuse. The lack of knowledge leads to a lot of discussions and the diagnosis is questioned. Purpose: To study how patients with fibromyalgia experineces the attitudes from staff in hospitals and health centers.

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common hereditary disease that leads to an early death. Earlier CF was considered as a childhood disease but today the expected age is 50 years. CF affects all the epithelial cells in the body which makes mucus and other body fluids more viscous than normal. The thick mucus leads to among other things respiratory problems and infections of the lungs. Today there is no cure, only medicines that controls the symptoms.Aim: To describe parents experiences living with a child with CF.

Alzheimer?s disease has increasing effects on the Swedish population. Now, about 90 000 swedes have been diagnosed with the disease. Many of these persons are cared for by someone close to them. The aim of this study is to increase understanding for the situation and experiences of the persons caring for their affected partner and to examine which support they are given by the public sector.

Bakgrund:Varje år drabbas fler och fler människor av cancer och de flesta har många funderingar, tankar och känslor kopplade till både sjukdomen i sig och till   den behandling som ges. Strålbehandling är en av de vanligaste behandlingsformerna mot cancer idag. Strålning   medför nästan alltid att patienten tvingas genomgå ett antal mer eller mindre   obehagliga biverkningar för att bli fri sin cancer. Därmed finns en risk att patientens hälsa och välmående försämras. För att vi som sjuksköterskor ska kunna ge god vård är det viktigt att få en djupare förståelse för patienternas situation under och efter strålbehandling.Syfte:Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva upplevelsen i samband med strålbehandling hos personer med cancer.Metod:Litteraturöversikt enligt Fribergs metod (2012) där 11 artiklar med kvalitativ design analyserades till resultatet. Resultat:Tre huvudteman framkom; Upplevelse av vårdmiljön, Hela tillvaron påverkas samt Social isolering och mellanmänskliga relationer.

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a feline viral disease with high mortality. There is no cure or any effective vaccine available today. Many questions are yet to be answered about this disease and the immune response in affected cats. The aim of the study is to evaluate two different techniques for the study of cytokine profiles in cats vaccinated with a vaccine concept against FIPV. More information about the immune response in these cats could give valuable information to better understand the pathogenesis of the disease and the development of an effective vaccine.

Leber´s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), a disease affecting vision, is caused by several point mutations in mitochondrial DNA. Mutations leading to a defect NADH ubiquinone oxidoreductase protein will affect the respiratory chain and cause a disturbed ATP production. It is still unknown why this defect leads to the degeneration of retinal ganglion cells and cells in the opticus nerve as well as demyelination of axons in these areas. Analysis of mitochondrial DNA is an important tool in the diagnosis of the disease. At the present time analysis is based on cleavage by restriction enzymes, which only detects two of the most frequent mutations: m.3460G>A and m.11778G>A.

Unga vuxna lever i en tid med många utmaningar och en cancerdiagnos påverkar personen fysiskt, psykiskt och socialt. Syftet med litteraturstudien var att beskriva psykosociala behov hos unga vuxna med cancer. Elva vetenskapligt publicerade artiklar analyserades med en kvalitativ innehållsanalys vilket resulterade i fem kategorier; känslor av osäkerhet inför framtiden, vikten av att få information, att återgå till sitt normala liv, vännernas och familjens roll och stöd inom sjukvården. Personer upplevde en förlorad ungdom och de beskrev den osäkra framtiden som frustrerande och smärtsam. För att hjälpa personen att hantera en osäker framtid kan sjuksköterskan ge redskap till självhjälp genom information och olika strategier.
