Laminitis is a common but devastating condition, and affected horses are often euthanized or influenced a very long time. Many horses never return to their original capacity. Laminitis is often associated with severe pain and a long time of convalescence. Symthoms includes lameness, hoof hyperthermia, strenghthened digital pulse and pain. The horse often tries to move the body weight away from the forelegs which are often more severly affected than the hindlimbs.

I ett internationellt perspektiv har Sverige hög amningsfrekvens, men under 2000-talet har amningsfrekvensen sjunkit och stora regionala skillnader ses. Kvinnorna rekommenderas att helamma sex månader. Mödravårdcentralen (MVC) informerar om bröstmjölkens hälsoeffekter som till exempel att bröstmjölken skyddar barn mot allergier. Forskning visar att överviktiga och feta kvinnor har kortare amningsduration, men få studier behandlar svenska förhållanden. Syfte: Syfte med fördjupningsarbetet är att studera samband mellan mammans BMI relaterat till amningsduration och mammans skattning av barnets hälsa de tre första levnadsåren.

In 2003 the recommended phosphorus allowance for dairy cows in Sweden was lowered approximately 10 %. For a cow at a production level of 35 kg ECM it decreased from 0,40 to 0,36 % of dry matter. To investigate if the decrease has been implemented at farm level, analysis of following minerals; P, Ca, Mg, K, Na, S, Se, Cu, Mn and Zn was performed on the TMR at 20 farms in Sweden in the summer of 2004. The purpose was to describe the actual allowance of different minerals as compared to the new recommendations. One hypothesis was that the decrease in recommended allowance of phosphorus would lead to the need of new mineral feeds on the market.

The red-tailed monkey (Cercopithecus ascanius) is a small, alert and active animal inhabiting forests with dense vegetation and as such hard to observe in its natural habitat. The principal aim of this study was to scrutinize whether the methods, previously used in a behavioural study of the blue monkey (Cercopithecus mitis) can be applied in studies of the red-tailed monkey?s behaviour as well. Additionally, habitat preference and foraging behaviour of the red-tailed monkey were examined. The study was carried out between the 16th and the 22nd of March 2009 in the Sabaringo forest, located on the western border of the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Bröstcancer är en utav de vanligaste cancerdiagnoserna bland kvinnor. Omkring 7 000 svenska kvinnor blir diagnostiserade med sjukdomen varje år. Trots mängden bröstcancerdiagnoser ser prognosen god ut och 75 procent av kvinnorna överlever sjukdomen under en tioårsperiod. Syftet med denna studie var att belysa kvinnors upplevelser av hur bröstcancer påverkar livssituationen. Metoden var en litteraturöversikt.

Purpose There are almost infinite numbers of ways to build dairy farms in Sweden. When building a new free stall barn you have the possibility to affect both working environment and animal welfare for many years to come. The construction costs are influenced by which type of barn that is built and what functions it contains, for example one can predict that automatic milking systems are more expensive to integrate than milking parlours. But what is the real cost of today for the construction of free stall barns with milking centres and how is it affected by construction methods and functions? Is the labour time influenced by the building costs? These are some of the questions this report will try to answer.

The aim of this report was to investigate the hypothesis that Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst), planted on poor ?Scots pine? stands will not have sustained growth during the whole rotation, due to water deficit in the closed stands. In order to investigate this hypothesis, data from 10 Norway spruce stands in southern-eastern Sweden were collected. In 10 plots in each stand, diameter and breast heights were measured on every tree.

After I heard that two deadly accidents in farming 2003 were created by work with cattle, I got the idea of writing this degree project. So far there are not too many reports written about safety for the worker nor the animal. Therefore it will fit in with a report about safe handling of free stalled cattle. The Swedish Board of Agriculture would also like to do an information material about outside stalled cattle with this degree project as a background. The collecting of material was made by visiting farmers. The goal was to visit 15 ? 20 herds and when this is being written 19 herds have been visited.

In this project the focus has been on the system for recombination at Oskarshamn 2. The recombining systems have on several occasions switched paths due to low pressure before the last ejector that?s feeding the recombiner. Of the mentioned reason, events and several measuring points have been analyzed in this report since the installation of the recombining systems.In order to prove theories and demonstrate what may be the cause of this problem, we used heat balance calculations by the program Probera. Using the program, we can demonstrate that the catalytic process does not reach the desired temperature with the amount of combustible substance.

Metabolic diseases in dairy cows are considered to increase the risk for claw lesions, most of all laminitis, sole haemorrhages and sole ulcers, but also to increase the risk for environmental claw lesions. The aim of this study was to compare claw health in 27 Swedish dairy farms, 18 with high incidence of metabolic diseases and 9 with low incidence. Data on claw health status was retrieved from recordings at routine claw trimmings and analysed on herd level regarding the prevalence of: any lesion, interdigital dermatitis, heel-horn erosion, sole haemorrhages, sole ulcer, lameness, abnormal claw shape, and other diseases (abscess in the white line, limb disorders, double sole, laminitic groove, white line disease, interdigital phlegmon, interdigital hyperplasia, toe abscess and verucose dermatitis). Mean prevalence of any lesion for herds with low incidence of metabolic diseases was 48 % and in herds with high incidence 41 %, and there was no statistical difference between the two groups. Bakgrund: Adjuvant cytostatikabehandling används vid bröstcancer efter att tumören tagits bort. Biverkningar kan uppstå då cytostatika påverkar alla kroppens celler. För att sjuksköterskan ska kunna ge en god omvårdnad krävs det att hon/han får ta del av patienters upplevelser vid adjuvant cytostatikabehandling. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva kvinnors upplevelser av adjuvant cytostatikabehandling vid bröstcancer. Metod: En litteraturöversikt som baserades på 13 vetenskapliga artiklar med kvalitativ ansats utfördes.

Most of the goats in the world exist in the developing countries where they are important in the meat industry. In Europe, goats are mostly kept for milk production although the interest for meat is growing. Goats have a thin carcass with only small amounts of intramuscular fat, which gives a lean meat. This thin subcutaneous fat cover can cause cold shortening when chilling the carcass. By using electrical stimulation cold shortening can be prevented.

Bakgrund: Bröstcancer är den vanligaste cancersjukdomen bland kvinnor idag och var tionde kvinna drabbas någon gång av sjukdomen. Genetiska faktorer kan öka risken för att drabbas av bröstcancer. Tidig menarche och sen menopaus hör även de till riskfaktorerna. De behandlingsmetoder för bröstcancer som finns tillgängliga är kirurgisk behandling, strålbehandling, cytostatika, hormonpreparat samt annan medicinsk behandling. Indikationen för hormonell behandling är om tumörcellerna har östrogenpositiva receptorer på sin cellyta.

Antalet kvinnor som drabbas av bröstcancer har ökat sedan 60-talet och sjukdomen är i dag den vanligaste cancerformen bland svenska kvinnor. Syftet med litteraturöversikten var att beskriva vilket stöd drabbade kvinnor behöver under början av sin sjukdomstid. Studien är baserad på tio kvalitativa artiklar publicerade mellan åren 1997-2012. Resultatet delades in i fyra kategorier; emotionellt stöd, informativt stöd, praktiskt stöd och stöd från kvinnor med liknande erfarenheter. I resultatet framkom att behovet av stöd hos kvinnorna var omfattande under början av sjukdomstiden och kvinnorna önskade stöd både från anhöriga, vänner och sjukvårdspersonal.
