The genus Borrelia is a widespread, pathogenic pest and the causative of among others borreliosis or Lyme disease. The vector for the bacteria is the hard tick, Ixodes ricinus and the infection is transferred through a bite. Untreated, Borrelia may cause arthritis, heart damage or neuroborreliosis. Infection is made possible through different strategies for avoiding the body?s complement system.

This essay is intended for veterinary nurses and its purpose is to contribute to an increased knowledge about the ferret and there by a better nursing care at clinics. The essay discuss in briefness origin and earlier use of the ferret but also anatomy, physiology and reproduction. The senses of the ferret, as vision and hearing, are described in connection with behaviour. The part of the essay where nursing care is described bring up procedures as handling when collecting blood, medical techniques and how the clinic best should be suited for these animals. Hard-to-heal ulcers are resource intensive due to the fact that they are difficult to treat and especially vulnerable to bacterial invasion. The bacterial culture contaminating these wounds often consist of several different bacterial organisms that originate from endogenous sources. Necrotic material in ischemic ulcers provide nutrition which support bacterial reproduction, increasing the risk of infection. Determining causative pathogen in infected ulcers proves to be difficult when culturing swab samples, however Staphylococcus aureus and hemolytic streptococci generally act as primary pathogens.    The aim of the study was to investigate if the detection rate increased for S. aureus and hemolytic streptococci when culturing swab samples from ulcers on Columbia CNA; a media selective for gram-positive bacteria.

Lupus is the result of an investigative project in illustration. In my degree-work I have investigated the different guises of the wolf, which I have thenillustrated visually combined with some portions of text. The result, presentedin the form of a book of 36 pages, is narrated in a poetic and free style with meas a personal author. The images of the book tell the story of both the wolf of fleshand blood, as well as the wolf as a symbol. My work is produced with the hope thatby talking about the wolf in a way other than the standard, new ways of regarding apresently endangered but valuable animal, can arise..

The PhonePages of Sweden is a company that develops software for mobile units, especially cell phones. This thesis treats the development of, and contingencies for, a mobile phone directory, using the limited resources found in a mobile unit. The project was implemented and executed at The PhonePages with the intention of creating a product to sell to a third party.By studying different solutions, their benefits and drawbacks, an abstract picture of the product was constructed. Problems covered include compatibility problems caused by todays platform diversity as well as problems with saving, organizing and presenting data.The main goal was to create a phone directory which does not make external information retrievals. The service should contain both company and personal information, with name and phonenumber.

  Vilka bedömningsinstrument som används inom missbruks- och beroendevården och hur Sveriges kommuner använder instrumenten är ett outforskat område. Socialstyrelsen publicerade år 2007 nationella riktlinjer för missbruks- och beroendevård där man förespråkar användandet av bedömningsinstrument. Studien har granskat i vilken utsträckning och i vilket syfte bedömningsinstrument används och hur förutsättningarna ser ut för användningen av bedömningsinstrument inom socialtjänstens arbete med missbruks- och beroendevård. Hur frekvent är användningen av bedömningsinstrument och vilka för- och nackdelar framkommer i bruket av dessa? Uppsatsen har en kvantitativansats med kvalitativa inslag och utgår från telefonintervjuer med tio respondenter.

The thesis also has two sub-purposes: firstly, chart the supply of IP-telephony services and secondly, discuss what IP-telephony services that are requested by today?s customers in the future.

Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhusets, SUs, medarbetare uppfattar organisationens varumärke, samt vad de vill att det ska stå för i framtiden. Vi ämnar även att utifrån undersökningens resultat ge förslag på hur organisationen skulle kunna gå vidare i det fortsatta varumärkesarbetet.Uppsatsens huvudfrågeställning lyder: Hur ser Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhusets medarbetare i dagsläget på organisationens varumärke? Utifrån denna fråga har ett antal delfrågeställningar utvecklats. Dessa berör bland annat vad medarbetarna uppfattar är SUs styrkor respektive svagheter, massmedia som en påverkansfaktor i sammanhanget samt vad medarbetarna anser att organisationen bör stå för i framtiden.För att besvara dessa frågeställningar har en kvantitativ metodansats använts. Dock förekommer kvalitativa metodinslag i analysen.

The bacterium Lactobacillus reuteri, which natural habitat is in the intestine of mammals and birds, uses glycerol as a substrate for production of the antimicrobial compound reuterin. Glycerol has been shown to decrease the number of Escherichia coli in human feces and it is believed to be due to in situ production of reuterin. E. coli belongs to the large family of Enterobacteriaceae, naturally occurring in the intestine, and pathogenic strains of E. coli have been shown to be one of several bacteria causing diarrhoea in calves.

There are many risk factors involved with a sedentary lifestyle. Deep vein thrombosis (blood clot), circulatory problems and contractures are just a selection of problems you can get by too little exercise. For people who are immobilized because of illness, it can be difficult to get enough exercise and movement to avoid similar complications. Because of most medical supplies on the market today are not optimal for use at home, I have chosen to develop a training device for the lower limbs, adapted for use in a bed, both in hospitals and at home. It is important that the devise can be used in any bed, regardless of headboards.

In Sweden most public libraries give users access to databases. These databases are sometimes possible to reach outside the library by internet at any time and this provides a change for the library and the society. Librarians function as change agents when they give access to databases and when databases are introduced to users. However, reports show that the use of databases, especially those in English, is not high in reference work. This study aims at analysing attitudes of librarians to access and use of databases on and by public libraries.
