This review paper summaries scientific research about horse thermoregulation and the consequences of using a Blanket. Horse owners put Blankets on their horses to protect them when they are clipped, to protect them from bugs, to keep them clean and so on. This can have consequences for the horse which their owners might be unaware of. I have tried to answer following questions by searching the available scientific literature; ? How can the horse maintain thermoregulation? ? Is there a risk of suffering when horses wear a Blanket? ? Is there a risk of suffering when horses do not wear a Blanket? ? How can animal inspectors estimate the welfare of horses when they wear or do not wear a Blanket? My result shows that horses who wear a Blanket have an increased risk of becoming overheated, develop a chafing, have an increased exposure hazard and have a restrained natural behaviour.

There are two objectives of this study.The first one was to study the new instrument Deltack fromPrufbau, and with the new knowledge, study the interaction between Blanket and paper.Deltack is a new instrument to measure the ink splitting force. Blankets from an earlier study doneby GATF have been montered on 12 different Deltack print forms and those have together with Deltackbeen the base for this project.This study together with information from GATF?s study shows that some of the Blankets have ahigher capability to adsorb ink. Those Blankets generate a sharper shape on the force curve, they havea lower dot gain, but they print not as good solid..

The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze laws that completely prohibit abortion through a legal philosophical perspective. To demonstrate that abortion Blanket bans cannot be seen as legally legitimate, the author has completed a literature study where she uses Robert Alexy?s ?Concept of Law? to analyze abortion laws both in general, and in Nicaragua in particular.Based upon Alexy?s ?Concept of Law? the author has identified three relevant key elements ? social efficacy, the argument from injustice and correctness of content - which she uses in her analysis. In order to apply these three elements on the total abortion ban, she then uses four different analysis tools - feminist theory, Human Rights, deontology analysis and right analysis. This has enabled a thorough analysis of the total ban on abortion that has demonstrates that such laws cannot be considered legitimate.By highlighting the human rights violations the law entails, one can conclude that the law has a social impact.

Bobergs printing house in Falun has during some time had problems regarding deposits on Blankets intheirs Müller Martini UV-printing presses. Deposits appear in both image areas and non-image areas.These areas have been analyzed and the deposits on non-image areas contain chalk, clay and talc. Thequestion remains how these material bond to the Blanket surface. The chalk and clay comes from thepaper. The talc comes from the ink.

The market offers more and more products that are claimed to have medicallypositive effects (like increased blood perfusion etc.) due to their magneticproperties. The objective of this study was to investigate if Blankets containingpermanent (static) magnets have a greater impact on cutaneous blood circulationthan ordinary Blankets without magnets. Eight standard bred horses were used in across-over study. The cutaneous temperature was presumed to reflect blood flowin the skin and therefore thermography and local thermistors were used to indicatechanges in circulation. Baseline values were registered before the Blanket wasapplied.

The horse is a homeothermic animal and to keep a constant body temperature in winter season is important. Acclimatisation is to provide means for a good thermal insulation consisting of skin, hair, and an outer air layer. The skin covers the horses body and it is composed of three main layers where the top layer of the epidermis consists of dead keratinized cells that are constantly being sheed. The dermis is composed of collagen connective tissue that give the skin its strength. The bottom layer with subcutaneous fat provides a thermal insulation and can be used as an energy reserve in cold weather.

The continuous process of urbanization results in demands on research and development for ecological and sustainable city development. Because of this, the current systems for wastewater treatment may have to be improved. In order to evaluate new technologies for municipal wastewater treatment, a development project has been initiated for the new district Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm. The project is lead by the company Stockholm Water. High environmental standards have been put up for the district, as it must be twice as good as an ordinary new district.

Magneter har använts långt tillbaka i tiden för att behandla olika åkommor. Det senaste årtiondet har de fått ett uppsving som en alternativmedicinsk metod. De påstås ha olika medicinska effekter så som att ge ökat blodföde och verka smärtlindande och avslappnande på ömma muskler. Syftet med den här studien var att studera huruvida hästtäcken med 120 stycken insydda permanenta magneter (à 900 gauss) har någon effekt på beteenden hos hästarna vilka tyder på en ökad avslappning. Sju normala, friska hästar inkluderades i en prospektiv, randomiserad, blindad, placebokontrollerad cross-over studie.

Hypothermia during anaesthesia is a well-known phenomenon that may cause several side-effects such as greater risk of postoperative wound infection and increased risk of heart complications. The most efficient way to avoid this is to prevent hypothermia from occurring. The aim of this paper was to compile the research on the most efficient way to prevent hypothermia during anaesthesia for cats and dogs, and to compare these results to how Swedish animal hospitals prevent hypothermia today. To investigate this, a survey was sent out to several animal hospitals around Sweden to see what methods they used to prevent hypothermia in their clinics. It is difficult if not impossible to prevent the body temperature from falling slightly when anaesthesia is induced because of the drug interactions in the body that follow from the drugs given. A 1-1,5°C decrease in body temperature is to be expected and is difficult to avoid.

This degree project illustrates newsprint and waterless offset. A new news press was introduced at Drupa-00, Cortina from KBA, which is the first news press dedicated the waterless technique. With actual statistics from the company in question an investigation was made whether their production fits this press. It came out in the investigation that the production of the company, from statistics, fits this press very good. A table was made where different timeschedules were accounted for the new press, with semi- and full automatic plate changing for present and to be added papers.

Syftet med den här studien var att undersöka hur det fysiologiska svaret på träning och återhämtning ser ut hos islandshästar, samt om detta påverkas av klippning och täckning. Sex islandshästar studerades innan, under och 60 minuter efter att de genomförde ett standardiserat träningsprogram. Programmet genomfördes fyra gånger och hästarna var sina egna kontroller. Varje gång var hästarna under någon av följande behandlingar: 1) oklippt (full vinterpäls), 2) oklippt (full vinterpäls) och försedd med täcke direkt efter träningspassets slut, 3) halvklippt eller 4) halvklippt och försedd med täcke direkt efter träningspassets slut. Hjärtfrekvens, andningsfrekvens, hudtemperatur, rektaltemperatur, laktat, pH, hematokrit, pCO2, kalium, totalprotein och glukos mättes.

Hammarby Sjöstad is a new district in southern Stockholm. A main objective with the Sjöstad project was to halve the environmental impact compared to other construction work. The environmental goals involve a halved water consumption rate, a local treatment of storm water and trials aiming to extract nutrients from the waste water. Sjöstadsverket is an experimental treatment plant used for testing new treatment processes for domestic waste water from Hammarby Sjöstad. The results are to be compared with the conventional process used at Henrikdals treatment plant today.

Stereotypier och tvångsbeteenden är relativt vanligt förekommande hos hundar. Exempel på några av dessa beteenden är flanksugning, filtsugning, slickdermatit, bita i luften, svansjakt och att stå som fastfrusen. Det finns oenigheter inom litteraturen om vad en stereotypi respektive ett tvångsbeteende är. Vissa författare använder begreppen som synonymer, medan andra ser det som två skilda beteenden. På grund av den rådande begreppsförvirringen använder jag termen avvikande repetitiva beteenden som ett samlingsnamn.
