A clean and affordable energy source for cooking is deficient in developing countries. People rely on fuels that contribute to environmental, social and health problems.Biogas is an alternative energy source and an increased investment in small-scale Biogas production can in several developing countries be found. Several projects have started to use the technology in developing countries because of the benefits with Biogas. Some cases in the establishment of Biogas plants have succeeded and some have not. The study is a literature review supplemented by two field studies.

Utveckling av en beräkningsmodell för biogasproduktion

A growing interest for the climate and the environment has led to an increased interest forenvironmentally friendly and renewable energy sources, such as Biogas. Planning new Biogasplants requires a decision basis including facts about approximate amounts of Biogas possibleto produce at the plant. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a model that calculates theapproximate Biogas and digestate production from a planned or existing Biogas plant.Developing the model required a literature review and studies of calculations concerningBiogas and digestate production performed by WSP Sweden AB. As a complement to themodel development, facts about substrates for Biogas production were compiled through aliterature review. In addition the methane potential from selected materials was determined bybatch experiments.

Uppgradering av biogas med aska från trädbränslen

The Swedish production of Biogas was 1,5 TWh 2011. About half of the production was used as vehicle fuels. The cost for upgrading Biogas depends on the size of the Biogas plant and its gas production. If the gas flow is low the cost will be high. However, further development of existing upgrading technologies or development of new ones, have good potential to decrease the upgrading cost for small scale Biogas plants.

Miljö- och samhällsekonomisk analys av behandling av biologiskt avfall

Biogas is a renewable fuel that can be extracted from anaerobic digestion of many differentsubstrates, for example biological household waste. An alternative handling of the waste is tomix it with other wastes and incinerate it in a combined heat and power (CHP) plant. Thisstudy uses life cycle assessment to investigate which type of waste handling that is betterfrom an environmental point of view, anaerobic digestion with Biogas production orincineration. The results are based on a case study of a Biogas production plant owned by thecompany Ragn-Sells in Vänersborg. The alternative is incineration at a CHP plant inGothenburg.

Effekt av karbonatisering med biogas på aska från trädbränslen

It is essential to reuse- and recycles residues to decrease the amount of deposit materials and reach sustainable energy use. Two ways to work towards this is to recycle wood ashes to the forest as nutrient compensation and extract Biogas from combustion of biomass. The aim with this study was to decide whether wood ashes that been used for Biogas upgrading with accelerated carbonation also can be used as a nutrient compensation in the woods according to recommendations from the Swedish Forest Agency (Skogsstyrelsen). The ashes that were used in this study came from Johan Andersson who works at JTI in Uppsala, who also treated the ashes with Biogas. The ashes have, in both untreated and treated condition, been analyzed in this study according to contents of elements, leaching properties, hardening properties and contents of crystalline phases, to evaluate what impact carbonation with Biogas has on the ashes. The accelerated carbonation led to hardening of the ash, and decreased amount of CaO- and increased amount of CaCO3. The CO2-uptake also entails a dilution of the elements, and the content of nutrients and trace elements decreases. However the results show an indication of an uptake of S from the Biogas to the ash, since the dilution had a smaller impact on S than the rest of the elements.

Utvärdering av substrat för biogasproduktion

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the different substrates that enter the digestion on Sundet wastewater treatment plant for production of Biogas. This work have done an analysis of data about the Biogasproduction from January 2012 to feburari 2013, this showed that the food substrates has a greater gas production than internal sludge.Through laboratory test the VS, TS and COD values for all the substrates used in the Biogas production could be determinded. But the COD-method was less optimal for analysis of fat and food, therefore it optimized the method for fat but due to time constraints, this could not be done on the food substrates..

Uppgradering av biogas i systemperspektiv med avseende på miljöpåverkan och kostnader

Swedish Biogas is currently produced mainly by anaerobic digestion of sewage sludgeat sewage treatment plants, landfills and anaerobic digestion of household or industrialwaste. Also cattle ma-nure from farms can be used to produce Biogas. UpgradingBiogas represents an increase in methane concentration from about 65 % to about 97%. In addition, particles and contaminants must be sepa-rated from the upgradedBiogas. There are various methods for upgrading and this report compares sixdifferent methods with respect to environment and economy: water scrubber,Biosling, cryo technology, chemical absorption, Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) andmembrane separation.According to the used ORWARE model, chemical adsorption with amine has the leastenvironmen-tal impact (methane emissions) and the lowest costs.

Vad påverkar företagens (o)intresse att välja biogasfordon?

Issues regarding the environment are commonly discussed in the media. The most common problem that is discussed is how to decrease the emissions of greenhouse gases by human beings. The municipality of Kristianstad has chosen to work with a project named ?Biogas Kristianstad? which purposes are to use all of the produced Biogas as motor fuel and to speed up the introduction of Biogas on the local market. This is in an effort to decrease the effects on the environment in the municipality of Kristianstad.

Gårdsbaserad biogas på Nya Skottorp : utvärdering och optimering av anläggningen och uppgradering av biogasen

Biogas is an expanding sector within the broad field of agriculture and animal production. Small-scale Biogas offers local combined power and heating production and the substrate is transformed into high-quality biological fertilizer. This bachelor thesis focuses on a pig farm in south-western Sweden, where Biogas is produced from pig manure, evaluates and suggests ways of optimizing the process and investigates whether investing in an upgrading plant would be a feasible and more cost-efficient option. The results show that the Biogas plant is working well, although the production differs from the original plans. This shows in turn that planning and examining the basic conditions before making the investment is of great importance, as well as monitoring and keeping detailed statistics of the running process.

Biogas : En systemanalys av Solna Stads matavfallsprocess

Global warming is a huge issue that humans have contributed to through over-exploitation of natural resources and extensive usage of fossil fuels. Now more than ever, we need to embrace a recycle thinking and reuse our waste, for example through producing Biogas from our food waste. The purpose of this report was therefore to identify the energy usage and emissions resulting from the Biogas chain which spans from Solna Stad to Uppsala Vatten. Furthermore, potential efficiency improvements were to be identified and proposed. This report focused mainly on the first part of the Biogas chain that includes the collection of the food waste and the reloading process.

Biogasprocessen : Bestämning av verkningsgrad

Biogas is increasingly used for fuel in for example vehicles and it´s produced in a Biogas processconsisting of the steps of pretreatment, digestion and gas cleaning. The pretreatment is a method usedto increase the gas production and / or destroy pathogens. The digestion is the stage when anaerobicmicroorganisms convert bio-mass of a substrate to a raw gas containing about 65% of methane. Thegas cleaning is used to increase the methane content to about 97% so the gas can be used for motors invehicles. The Biogas part of the Ekeby sewage plant in Eskilstuna is using multiple substrates.
