The purpose of this bachelor's thesis is to investigate how working librariansmanage controversial media. It builds on three debates in the media about libraries and booksthat have taken place during the years of 2012 and 2013. The questiones asked were: How dolibrarians manage racist media? How do librarians manage media that instructs on how tocommit crimes? How do librarians manage sexually explicit media? And lastly, how dolibrarians manage pressure from outside of the library? The theoretical framework consists ofRobert Hauptmans division of the two kinds of ethical strands of librarianship, in this thesiscalled ?Free information? and ?Information responsibly?. The method used to collectempirical material was qualitative interviews.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine which role public libraries play or could play within bibliotherapy. The study is based on qualitative interviews with five librarians who, in one way or another have experienced bibliotherapy activities. Further, we have interviewed two treatment assistants and one counsellor, who have cooperated with the librarians, to get their view. We have used the following research questions: Which bibliotherapeutic activities, if any, are pursued in public libraries in Sweden, and how do they look upon bibliotherapy? What role do public libraries play/could play within bibliotherapy? Ever since the term bibliotherapy was coined in the beginning of the twentieth century, the definition has been under debate. We have identified four main subjects of discussion.

The aim of this master's thesis is a comparative study on units for civic information in Göteborg. The study is based on a project currently in progress at the main public library in Göteborg. It is observed that according to the library's mission statement the library aims to become the most competent intermediary of civic information in Göteborg. This statement suggests a competitive strategy towards other intermediaries of civic information. The mission statement does, however, also state that their goal is to be obtained in cooperation with other intermediaries.

The aim of this research review is to map research about how children relate to nonfiction, and how adults, represented by parents, librarians and teachers, relate to children?s nonfiction and its possible purposes, and also the similarities and differences between them, according to current research.A theory of three different ways to look at reading is applied to the material concerning adults? views of children?s nonfiction. To show children?s views, themes are extracted from the research material, using an analysis model of four different ways to read.Studies show that most children as well as adults perceive children?s nonfiction in a traditional way as a means to gain knowledge and facts, and primarily related to school work.Nonfiction can also help children with reading difficulties to practise reading, by stimulating their interests. Many children read nonfiction because they prefer to read ?real stories? about actual people and events.

In the library community there is a continuous discussion about enhancing user interactivity on library websites, according to the principles of Web 2.0, called Library 2.0. The purpose of this thesis is to study how librarians conceive Library 2.0. The focus is on the study of the librarians? conceptions of user interactivity on the website, and if the librarians conceive that their professional role is affected by Library 2.0. The study is implemented methodologically by interviewing six librarians and using phenomenography as an approach.

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to examine how public libraries use socialmedia for marketing purposes, and what librarians think about this. My focus of this thesislies on what librarians think about marketing of libraries through social media and if theythink that marketing through social media can create a better relationship between the libraryand its users. The questions I wanted to answer were:? Libraries using social media, for what purpose do they use them? ? Do the libraries choose to use social media to market their organization? Why? ? What attitudes exist among librarians about marketing through social media?The theoretical framework for this thesis is Evert Gummessons model off Relationshipmarketing and the process of Internet marketing, which both are based on relationalperspective. The methodology used for this study was structured interviews.

Syftet med undersökningen är att synliggöra barns och vuxnas uppfattning om barnboken. Vi vill få kunskap om vad föräldrar, pedagoger och Bibliotekarier har för roll genom att delge barn den kunskap och det innehåll som barnboken ger. När viss undersökning visar att barnbokslån går ner och annan undersökning visar att barnboken är viktig för barn, både språkligt och socialt, vill vi sätta detta i fokus.Metoden grundar sig på kvalitativa studier genom enkäter med intervjufrågor till föräldrar, pedagoger och kommunens bibliotekarie samt intervjuer av barn på våra arbetsplatser. Undersökningen sätter vi i perspektiv till våra styrdokument Läroplanen för förskolan 1998 samt literatur vi anser relevant för vårt examensarbete.Slutsatsen vi har dragit av genomförda undersökningar är att pedagoger och föräldrar samt biblioteken har ett stort ansvar när det gäller barnboken och varför den behövs. Det finns olika vägar att gå för att väcka barns intresse och hur vi gör är upp till varje vuxen att ta beslut om - huvudsaken är att vi läser för barn.

Undersökningen visar de attityder olika aktörer, på och kring komvux i Blåmåla, harangående sitt skolbibliotek. De tillfrågade har fått ge sina åsikter i fråga om skolbiblioteketsegentliga funktion, personalen, lokal och bestånd, datorisering, användning, samarbetemed andra kommunala enheter och spekulera i andra aktörers tankegångar ombiblioteksverksamheten.Syftet är att visa på problematiken kring biblioteket i vuxenutbildningen, samt ge vissaförslag och idéer angående utveckling av verksamheten. En kvalitativ metod har använts,i avsikit att klargöra hur aktörerna, på just denna komvuxenhet, tänker. De intervjuade ärbl a rektor, studierektor, Bibliotekarier och elever.Resultaten tyder på att man anser funktionen som referensbibliotek vara den viktigaste.Att ha en yrkesutbildad bibliotekarie, ses dock inte som en nödvändighet, aven om manefterlyser någon som kan visa fram de möjligheter skolbiblioteket har att ge. Samtliga äröverens om att lokalen är för liten och att litteraturbeståndet borde vara betydligt större.Datorisering är erforderligt för verksamheten.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to examine attitudes and standpoints amongst librarians at the Swedish public library towards literary awards and awarded literature. The questions posed in the study are: What attitudes are expressed amongst these librarians towards the Nobel Prize in literature, the August Prize and literary awards and awarded literature in general? What significance do the Nobel Prize in literature, the August Prize and other literary awards have concerning purchase and display at these public libraries? How is awarded literature perceived and how do they talk about it concerning quality and are questions of quality significant? Qualitative interviews with seven librarians at four different public libraries have been done. Theories regarding J?rgen Habermas the bourgeois public sphere and Pierre Bourdieu?s terms habitus, field and capital have been used as to explain the library as a public sphere.

De svenska universitets- och högskolebiblioteken har genomgått stora förändringar, inte minst under de senaste decennierna. Utvecklingen av informationsteknologin, utbildningsväsendets expansion samt nya pedagogiska modeller inom universitet och högskolor har medfört förändrade förutsättningar för Bibliotekarierna att utöva sitt yrke. Mot bakgrund av detta är syftet med studien att ur ett professionsteoretiskt perspektiv undersöka hur Bibliotekarierna själva upplever att den pedagogiska rollen samt användarundervisningen har förändrats. Jag har även haft för avsikt att undersöka vad de upplever som pådrivande i utvecklingen av den pedagogiska rollen och användarundervisningen. Föremål för min undersökning har varit Bibliotekarier anställda vid Medicinska biblioteket, Umeå universitetsbibliotek.

Bibliotekarierollen har diskuterats mycket på senare tid. Det tycks vara så att de Bibliotekarier som arbetar på myndighets- eller företagsbibliotek fått högre löner och högre status än till exempel folkBibliotekarier. Jag har därför valt att undersöka hur yrkesrollen och professionsutvecklingen ser ut för en speciell grupp myndighetsBibliotekarier nämligen domstolsBibliotekarier.Jag ställde upp två inledande frågeställningar: ?Har domstolsBibliotekarierna ett eget kunskapsområde?? och ?Är domstolsBibliotekarierna specialister eller generalister?? Min undersökning visade, att domstolsBibliotekarierna har ett eget kunskapsområde bestående av juridisk terminologi, rättskällor, rättsdatabaser, juridisk informationssökning samt EG-rätten och dess källor. DomstolsBibliotekarierna har valt både en specialist- och en generaliststrategi i och med att de blivit generalister på innehåll och specialister på sitt eget kunskapsområde.Mina huvudfrågeställningar var sedan: ?Kan man kalla domstolsbibliotekarieyrket för en profession?? och ?Hur ser professionsutvecklingen för domstolsBibliotekarier ut?? Jag tycker mig ha funnit tillräckligt stöd för att kunna kalla domstolsbibliotekarieyrket för en profession.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate librarians? experiences and opinions about a system for fiction retrieval based on the subject headings list Att indexera skönlitteratur. I want to know if librarians experience that subject headings searches for fiction literature are a good working tool, if there according to librarians are other resources and means that makes fiction available and searchable, and how they estimate the possibility of non-professionals to use subject headings for fiction retrieval. Six librarians at public libraries in Göteborg where interviewed. The interviews dealt with their work with fiction literature, their experiences of subject headings as a fiction retrieval tool, and with their contacts with patrons.

The role-playing game attracts a growing number of practisers. The aim of this master?s thesis is to examine role-playing literature as phenomenon in libraries through librarians´ attitudes. The paper is based on qualitative interviews with eight librarians: one personal interview with two librarians and six e-mail interviews with six librarians at different libraries. The paper starts with a definition of the term ?role-playing game?, its different categories and genres and a description of its background.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe how librarians inSwedish public libraries use Facebook and Twitter in themediation of literature. Our study focus on the librarians? role inthat process. The research questions are:? How do the librarians in this study regard mediation of literature through Facebook and/or Twitter in relation to othermediation strategies?? What goals and purposes do the librarians give in the selection of literature that they promote on Facebook and/or Twitter?? What do public librarians think about the future for mediation of literature through social media, how will it evolve?The methodology used was qualitative interviews.

The Open Access (OA) movement came to be as a reaction against the enclosure of information resources, facilitated by new distribution technologies. The purpose of the OA movement is to make research results freely available. The aim of this master´s thesis is to increase the understanding of how libraries outside of the academic sphere and within research institutes relates to OA. As a theoretical framework I created two different ideologies, the OA ideology and the nonsharing ideology. I also conducted six interviews with librarians.
