The purpose was to examine how the pre-schools used the public libraries in two Swedishtowns. We also examined if and how the pre-schools and the public libraries were coopera­ting.Literature showed that it is possible to stimulate children's language development and this is a duty for pre-schools and public libraries. We sent an inquiry to all pre-schools divisions in both towns. We interviewed two librarians. Our results showed that the pre-schools did use the libraries to a great extent but they didn't cooperate with the libraries in the sense that they had elaborated agreements.

The purpose of this essay is to examine what happens with library e-resources after implementing the discovery tool Summon. Summon provides a Google-like experience and uses multiple facet options when users need to narrow their discovery. Observations of change in the libraries e-resources with regards to database searches, click-throughs in linkresolvers and full text downloads are examined through looking at earlier reports and statistics from libraries in America and England. This provides a way to compare with Chalmers University of Technology?s Library.

Texten kommer sen processas och sorteras för att få ut nödvändig data som sen kan sparas undan i en databas. Färdiga Algoritmer och OCR-motorer har utvärderats och implementerats i applikationen direkt genom så kallade C-Bibliotek. Dessa gör det möjligt att utan större problem vidareutveckla applikationen för iOS eller Windows Phone.Projektet och Android-applikationen visar på möjligheterna att använda färdiga C-Bibliotek samt telefoners kamera för att enkelt sålla ut och spara undan den informationen som är relevant för konsumentens del..

The following thesis will examine how a smaller library manages the prioritization of media between Swedish and 'minority language'. We are also interested in the challenges and problems that can occur in such work, as well as how the librarians think about their role in the integration process. We have studied this through several qualitative interviews with librarians as well as earlier related research. The results show that librarians display a high propensity of appreciation related to working with minority languages and consider this an important aspect of their profession ? they fully ingratiate and accept the importance of helping the immigrant population in learning Swedish.

This master´s thesis in Library and Information Science examines the experiences of children who read to a dog. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the interactions between the librarian, the readingdog-handler, the child-ren and the dogs and what the benefits from the interactions might be. The aim is also to examine how the child-ren express their literacy during the readingsessions and how to develop the readingsessions at a specific library. The author follows a reading dog project for seven weeks, in collaboration with a specific school and library. Action research was used as a research strategy, and since action research is done on the basis of practice, a coll-laboration with the participating children, the librarian and the readingdog-handler was significant in this study.The theoretical framework concists of theory and concepts from the sociocultural theory developed by Ro-ger Säljö, and human-animal studies with concepts from Donna Haraway.

: This bachelor thesis explores library students? attitudes towards marketing in libraries. The aim is to find out if they are interested in working whit marketing questions in their future workplaces. To perform the study the author used a questionnaire survey and 48 students completed the survey. The answers where converted into present form and 10 charts were created to show the result.

De unga männen anser Bok och Biblioteksmässan vara bra och intressegivande, men av majoriteten verkar det vara av låg prioritering att besöka denna. De unga männen har godkunskap om att Bok och Biblioteksmässan existerar, även de som själva inte har besökt den. Dessvärre finns det mindre kunskap om vad denna mässa erbjuder, endast att försäljning av litteratur förkommer. Kunskap omseminarierna såväl som de årliga teman som förekommer var nästintill obefintlig.

The aim of this Master's thesis is to study what place public libraries have in local politics, particularly from the point of view of the politicians. To answer this, I have interviewed politicians, participated as a silent observer of a public debate, and studied articles on library politics in newspapers and other press. The results show that politicians in general have a positive view of libraries and good co-operation with library professionals, and that they have a fairly up-to-date view of libraries. They are, however, less interested in library issues in general, and are often complacent with the way things are already running. The newspaper studies show that library issues are usually only discussed when a specific library is somehow in danger.

Denna utvärdering är gjord vid Slottegymnasiets Bibliotek i Ljusdal och syftar till att lyfta fram skolelevernas åsikter kring Bibliotekets roll, rum och användning. Jag har använt mig av observationer och semistrukturerade intervjuer för att få fram en bred och kontrastrik bild av Bibliotekets användare.Utöver eleverna har jag även intervjuat kommunens Bibliotekschef, ansvarig rektor vid skolan samt skolBibliotekets Bibliotekarie, för att se om deras bild av Biblioteket överensstämmer med elevernas. Jag har även utgått från lagtext samt direktiv från skolinspektionen och på det sättet arbetat fram ett mikro, makro, meso-perspektiv där lagen representerar makro, kommunen representerar meso och eleverna vid skolan representerar mikro-delen av undersökningen.Slottegymnasiets Bibliotek är placerat centralt i skolan och många elever passerar igenom det under dagen för att ta sig från ena delen av skolbyggnaden till den andra. Detta resulterar i att en hög andel elever passerar Biblioteket under dagen. Eleverna i min undersökning uppskattar Bibliotekets placering i byggnaden och använder det i första hand till studier.Datorerna i Biblioteket används flitigt av eleverna, delvis som komplement till skolans datasalar och delvis för nöjen.

Vi har varit en grupp på fyra studenter som på tio veckors tid skall ha utvecklat några applikationer, samt ett Bibliotek för att kunna hantera diverse gester till ett system som kan hantera flera användare samtidigt. Vi har fått i uppdrag av Luleå Tekniska Universitet att prova denna relativt nya teknik och se vad den kan ha för kapacitet och användningsområden i framtiden. Min uppgift i arbetet var att hjälpa till att utveckla ett Bibliotek för att hantera olika gester som en användare kan tänkas göra. I detta examensarbete så berättar jag om hur man skall kunna upptäcka komplexa gester i ett system där flera användare kan påverka samtidigt. Jag kommer med denna rapport att ta upp de problem jag har haft, vilka lösningar jag har kommit fram till samt vad jag ser på möjliga framtida tillägg till Biblioteket.

Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att undersöka hur Bibliotekarier arbetar för att förmedla LL-böcker till dess potentiella läsare. Jag har velat skapa en förståelse för vilka problem som kan omge denna litteraturform sett från Bibliotekariernas perspektiv. Undersökningen bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer med Bibliotekarier på sammanlagt sex olika Bibliotek, tre stadsBibliotek och tre filialer, i Västerbottens och Norrbottens län. Jag har använt mig av grundad teori som metod för att genomföra undersökningen. Resultatet visade att LL-böcker ofta är ett eftersatt område på Biblioteket.

Contemporary libraries face challenges in transforming their organization to meet the digitalized society. To develop the process of digitization of literature is a natural way for libraries to go when they already have more visitors online than physically. Since the demand for digital material is so sought after, we feel challenged to address the challenges of the Internet as an emerging functional medium for distributing knowledge. These developments will be able to significantly modify the nature of literature as well as the existing system of quality assurance. In this study, we explored and analyzed a digitization project at a research library.

The aim of this study is to gain an understanding of how dyslexic adults experience the library, their meeting with a librarian and how they feel they are being helped with finding literature. To answer the purpose of the study I have conducted six semi-structured interviews with dyslexic adults.. Two theoretical models were used as an analytical tool in this study. One was Michael Buckland's aspects of access to information. The other is four aspects that explains the significance of personal encounter at the library.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate how libraries use thetools and ideas from library 2.0 in their reading promotionwork. We also want to include how librarians motivate thisuse and whatever merits and faults they encounter. We haveperformed document studies and interviews which we thenanalyzed with qualitative content analysis. Our theoreticframework in this study which we also used as a part of ourcoding scheme in the analysis was a model over the conceptlibrary 2.0 developed by Holmberg, Huvila, Kronquist-Bergand Widén-Wulff. This model describes seven aspects oflibrary 2.0 which is users, participation, library and libraryservice, web and web 2.0, social aspects, technology andinteractivity.
