The purpose of this thesis was to trace and discuss tendencies in the debate of the computerization of the libraries, in Swedish library press during the period of 1970-1999. The set-out was the issue of how the library journals, as representatives and mouthpieces of a by tradition humanistic profession, coped with a revolutionary innovation related to a field (data technology) which they hadn't any knowledge or even interest in. The examination included three Swedish library journals: Biblioteksbladet with connection to Sweden?s most established library organization (SAB); Bis which is founded upon a socialistic base and; DIK-forum rooted in the union. The analysis of the debate was partly based on three different sets of values related to data and systems development.

I denna studie använder vi oss av ett teoretiskt ramverk baserad på den socialkonstruktivistiska teorin The Human Environment Modell (HEM). Detta gör vi med syfte att se vad för information vi kan få fram från en aktörsgrupp om: Hur den sociala interaktionen som skett mellan denna aktörsgrupp och ett IT-stöd har förändrat aktörsgruppens roll och dess sociala kontext. Vi använder detta ramverk för att utifrån bibliotekariers perspektiv beskriva, hur interaktionen mellan det centrala bibliotekssystemet LIBRIS och bibliotekarier har förändrat bibliotekarierollen på universitets- och högskolebibliotek. För att besvara detta syfte valde vi att utföra både en kvalitativ och en kvantitativ undersökning. Den kvalitativa undersökningen består av tre intervjuer med bibliotekarier på Lunds Universitet och Malmö Högskola.

The purpose of this article is to investigate how and from which sources librarians collect information on their profession with respect to factors that are important for their work. In order to achieve this goal, a questionnaire-based survey will be conducted at three medium-sized central-public-libraries in southern Sweden. Using this survey, I wish to answer the following four questions: To what extent do librarians acquaint themselves with changes and developments within regional and cultural policy arenas important to their work? To what extent do librarians acquaint themselves with information using conferences and library debates that are focussed on changes and developments relevant to their work? Do librarians consider that they have enough time within the limits of their work hours to follow developments within the librarian profession, for example with respect to developments within information technology, and how would they appraise the future demand for information technology-based services at the library? From which source(s) do librarians collect information relevant to their work? The theoretical basis of this paper can be compared to a radar as it scans subjects-of-interest to the organization in the field of business intelligence. This investigation uses a quantitative method, with data collected via a survey consisting of 13 questions.

This thesis is an evaluation of the campaign [The digitally curious] that is part of the regional marketing campaign Futurum.kom. Its purpose was to strengthen the library's role in society. The campaign includes Regionbibliotek Kalmar, Länsbibliotek Sydost and also 25 public libraries in Kronoberg, Kalmar and Blekinge. The campaign [The digitally curious] is one of several cluster campaigns targeting their marketing to a specific audience and aims to promote awareness of what libraries have to offer and provide information on digital media and services. The target group for the campaign is a man between 45-65 years old, who is interested in digital technology.

Syftet med denna litteraturstudie ?r att unders?ka hur civilsamh?llets fotbollsinitiativ i Sverige bidrar till sociala funktioner genom att fr?mja h?lsa, st?rka gemenskap och integration samt fungera som ett f?rebyggande verktyg mot utanf?rskap och kriminalitet. Studien avser ?ven att belysa vilka mekanismer och f?ruts?ttningar som m?jligg?r eller begr?nsar dessa processer. Studien genomf?rdes som en systematisk litteraturstudie baserad p? vetenskapligt granskade artiklar fr?n databasen ?Web of Science? identifierade genom Ume? universitetsbiblioteks s?ktj?nst.

Självstudier upplevs av många lärare och elever, även i denna studie, som en mycket viktig del av lärandet. Hemmet eller andra avskilda platser som bibliotek kan erbjuda en lugnare studiemiljö än skolans, vilket är essentiellt för koncentrationen. Flera av lärandets nödvändiga delmoment, att nå förståelse, lära in fakta och repetition gynnas av självständigt arbete enligt forskning om läxans fördelar och nackdelar. Denna forskning pekar även på vikten av att gradvis öva upp den mentala och praktiska förmågan till självstudier. Det senare kan anses vara avgörande inför ett självstyrt livslångt lärande i yrkesliv och högre studier såväl som i den privata sfären.I det här arbetet intervjuades fem lärare individuellt och åtta naturvetarelever i grupp om vilka faktorer de ansåg var avgörande för att elever ägnar sig åt självstudier.

In public libraries there seems to be an unspoken consensus on what literary quality is. At the same time librarians are always eager to express the opinion that quality lies in the eye of the beholder. Quality is, it is said, something that you don t have to define. But at the same time it s up to everyone to decide what quality means to them. What I have been missing from the discussion in libraries about literary quality is a theoretical awareness about what it means to divide literature into higher and lower spheres.

This is done with a comparison to the library development in Sweden as a whole and in particular to the cities of Lidköping and Halmstad. I have worked according to the following questions: 1. The purpose of this thesis is to describe and analyse the development of the public library in the district of Österåker during a period of 1958-1983. The main goals have been to identify the crucial events in the history of the library within their historical context and to analyse the factors that have been important for the development: financing, location, staffing, stock of books, book-lending level and different activities for children, youngsters and adults. The consideration has been taken to reasons and consequences of these events. The hermeneutic interpretation model of interaction between parts and wholes, between reasons and results is the basic method in this research which leans mainly upon local archives in Österåker. The public library in Österåker was established in 1952 as a fusion of previously existing small libraries: the parish library in Östra Ryd, the Labour Movement?s library and the temperance movement?s library.

The investigation is focusing on the development of the organization of knowledge, of the catalogues, of the classification system and of the information retrieval. The thesis examines the factors which force the development of the activity at the library and of the organization of knowledge. The study uses a qualitative approach which is based on investigations of different types of catalogues, of the electronic database, of the classification system, of the subject indexing and on interviews. A describing analysis is used.

Betong är ett byggnadsmaterial som används i stor skala i byggbranschen. Över hela världen pågår kontinuerlig forskning för att förbättra betongens egenskaper för olika ändamål. De ingående delmaterialen i betongen har stor inverkan på hållfasthets- och värmeutveckling, vilka är mycket viktiga egenskaper för den härdande betongen. Examensarbetet har utförts genom litteraturstudier, laboratorieförsök, kursundervisning och datainsamling av genomförda mätningar. Utifrån erhållna mätresultat har utvärdering genomförts för beskrivning av hållfasthets- och värmeutveckling för totalt fem betongrecept, som tagits fram av Betongindustri AB i Stockholm.

Digitizing and digital libraries create great opportunities toprovide access to cultural heritage globally, but the quicklychanging information technology environment also raises manyquestions. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse whatvisions and ideas behind one specific digital library, Europeana,that can be found in documentation related to the project. Whatideas can be identified concerning aspects such as userparticipation, access to information, knowledge andinformation literacy? What is the project?s role in relation toeducation, preservation of cultural heritage and democracy?The method used to answer these research questions is adescriptive idea analysis. The empirical material, consisting ofprimary sources written in relation to the project, has beencategorized within dimensions and analysed according toDouglas Raber?s three public library strategies: social activism,the conservative response and the populist initiative.
