This is a survey of non-traumatic skeletal abnormalities of the domestic cat. The types of diseases that are presented are congenital, developmental, metabolic, degenerative, neoplastic, inflammatory, infectious and a few diseases of uncertain aetiology. Each disease, where possible, is described in aetiological, symptomatical and radiological aspect. In the cases where there are plausible treatments these are presented..

Basalkroppskännedom (BK) är en behandlingsmetod som har sitt ursprung i Tai Chi. Gertrud Roxendal utvecklade den svenska varianten efter inspiration av J Dropsy. BK har i första hand använts inom psykiatrin men har på senare år även introducerats i primärvården, i första hand på psykosomatiska tillstånd. Syftet med studien var att kartlägga sjukgymnasters inställning till och kunskap om behandlingsmetoden. En enkätstudie genomfördes på 32 sjukgymnaster verksamma i området Boden, Luleå, Piteå och Älvsbyn.

Headwater streams are affected by anthropogenic impacts at multiple scales. One aspect of human impact is sediment transport associated to the abundance of stream structures as large woody debris and the composition of the riparian zone from forest to agricultural landscapes. Riparian buffer zones and stream structures like dead wood are considered as generally important structures for protection against an increasing amount of sediment particles in the water. Hence, in this study these structures were quantified in thirty different stream segments on land and in the water. To measure the transport of sediment Whitlock-Vibert boxes were used in three different types of landscapes; forest, transition and fields. The boxes were left in the stream segments for three months, the taken up and dried and weighed. The results showed that the transition-land in Frösvidalsån had the highest sediment transport. The second highest transport of sediment was in Blackstaån at the fields.

In healthy dogs, heart rate fluctuates during the day. Heart rate variability (HRV) reflects the autonomic nervous system´s regulation of the cardiovascular unit. Heart rate variability shows the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, also called sympathovagal balance. Heart rate variability can be measured by time domain - and frequency domain analysis. In a time domain analysis you study the beat-to-beat-interval (RR-interval) in an electrocardiogram (ECG), while a frequency domain analysis can be used to determine the size of the variability.

Syfte med denna studie var att undersöka energiförbrukningen vid havspaddling. Energiförbrukningen undersöktes i vila och vid två olika hastigheter (4 och 7 km/h), först med en olastad och sedan med en lastad kajak (20 kg). Dessutom undersöktes hur det passiva motståndet förändrades vid successivt ökad hastigheten. Studien genomfördes i en försöksgrupp med jämn könsfördelning och med varierande ålder och paddlingserfarenhet.I studiens första del uppmättes försökspersonernas hjärtfrekvens i förhållande till syrgasupptag och koldioxidproduktion vid en successivt ökad belastning i en kajakergometer. För varje försöksperson kunde sedan en korrelationskurva beräknas mellan hjärtfrekvens och syrgasupptag.

The purpose of this study was to investigate produced laser data from the new national height model's airborne laser scanning in Sweden, what quality it has and whether it can be used for forest management planning. From airborne laser scanning one can obtain information on forest variables such as tree species, height, diameter and basal area. Norra skogsägarna is the principal employer of this project and they wanted know to the quality of the laser data which needs to cope with their standards. If the laser data the quality required it can replace some of the operations performed by field planners. To examine the quality of the produced laser data a control tax assessment has been performed in 30 forest departments. This was done in an objective manner.

Besvär från ländryggen är vanligt förekommande hos patienter inom hälso- och sjukvård. På senare år har metoder från psykiatrin influerat behandlingsarsenalen i den sjukgymnastiska verksamheten, en sådan metod är Basal Kroppskännedom (BK). Syftet med studien var att undersöka kroniska ländryggspatienters upplevelser av BK som behandlingsmetod samt sjukgymnasters erfarenheter av metoden. Tre patienter och två sjukgymnaster i åldrarna 35 till 60 år intervjuades. En kvalitativ innehållsanalys användes som metod för att ta del av de intervjuades tankar och erfarenheter kring BK.

För att minska smittspridning av sjukvårdsrelaterade infektioner är den viktigaste förebyggande åtgärden de basala hygienrutinerna.Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att belysa sjuksköterskans följsamhet till handhygien som basal hygienrutin samt att se vilka faktorer som påverkar att sjuksköterskan följer/inte följer angivna rutiner.Metoden som användes i studien var en systematisk litteraturstudie där 16 vetenskapliga artiklar inkluderats.Resultatet visade att följsamheten till handhygien bland sjuksköterskor sammantaget vid all vård var ganska låg. I situationer där sjuksköterskorna hade bättre följsamhet var när de kommit i kontakt med kroppsvätskor. Utbildning, kunskap och tillgängligheten till hygienartiklar förbättrade följsamheten.Faktorer som försämrade följsamheten var handhygien före patientvård, torra händer och hög arbetsbelastning samt felanvändning av handskar.Diskussion: Det är flera faktorer tillsammans som påverkar hur följsamheten till handhygien ser ut. För att upprätthålla god följsamhet bör sjuksköterskor samt övrig vårdpersonal få möjlighet till kontinuerlig utbildning och tillgång till adekvat handhygienutrustning. Trots kunskap och motivation är det svårt att förbättra följsamheten till handhygien på lång sikt då beteenden är svåra att förändra..

The purpose of this report was to compare Lilluns egg production with other Swedish egg producers based on the flow of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) in the egg production systems. The main focus in the report was the utilization rate of the forage and the excess of nutrients per kg egg. Additionally, the purpose was to identify the environmental impact from Lilluns egg production and compare the results with other egg producers. The inflow of nutrients associated with forage and poultry was compared with the nutrients that were exported from the production. All of the egg producers in this study had an excess of nutrients.

The aim of this study was to determine a method to habituate treadmill-naive Labrador Retrievers to walk and trot on a treadmill. 17 Labradors was equipped with reflective markers glued to the skin. Their motions were captured with six 240 Hz infra-red cameras as they walked and trotted on a treadmill three times a day for two days. Also the heart-rate was recorded. We then used QTM and custom built software to analyze the measurements.

Abstrakt The yield curve as a forecasting tool for inflation has been thoroughly investigated. However, most of these studies considered only the major economies, such as the U.S. economy or the major European economies and not a small open economy such as the Swedish. The Swedish economy should be much more affected by the world economy then the bigger economies. The purpose with this study is then to investigate whether the Swedish yield curve, or the Swedish interest rate, can be used as forecasting tools for the Swedish inflation.

The wild boar Sus scrofa population in Sweden has increased rapidly in the last decades which has led to conflicts among stakeholders, for example due to crop damages in agriculture. Thus, there is an urgent need of quantified goals and effective strategies for wild boar management. To develop such strategies, knowledge on population dynamics is fundamental. In this study a deterministic matrix model was used to estimate population growth, based on previously published data. The exponential growth rate for a wild boar population was calculated to 1.48.

Varje år drabbas tusentals patienter av vårdrelaterade infektioner. Dessa leder inte bara till en förlängd vårdtid och ett onödigt lidande för patienten utan kostar även samhället miljarder kronor årligen. För att förebygga smittspridning ska all vård-personal använda sig av en god basal hygien. För detta finns det föreskrifter som all personal inom sjukvården är skyldiga att följa. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur hygienföreskrifterna följdes och i vilka situationer det förekom brister.

The expansion of the Swedish hydro power has contributed positively to the reduction of the environmental impacts from the fossil fueled power production. In the same time the extensive expansion has been proved to cause negative ecological and local environment impacts of a stream. This, in turn, has been affecting the biodiversity and fish stock negatively, which has been reduced. One of the underlying problems is the lack of possibility for the fish to pass the plants, but it is also directly correlated to the mortality rate of the fish passing through the turbine, which this study is investigating.The mortality rate has been computed for three different locations in Sweden, Untra, Tännfallet and a third one whose location is confidential, and is denoted as Case 1, 2 and 3. The model used to calculate the mortality rate in this investigation is based by existing blade strike models and knowledge and are investigating the death due to mechanical injuries from collision with a runner blade in the turbine.

The present study discusses the metabolism of ethanol in the human body from the ingestion of ethanol to the excretion of its break down products water and carbon dioxide. Ethanol is a small molecule, soluble in water as well as in organic solutions. It is quickly distributed to every section in the body, where it exerts a direct toxic effect on the cells. Ethanol cannot directly leave the body efficiently so it needs other metabolic pathways. The molecule is metabolized by oxidation, predominately in the liver.
