Colobus angolensis palliatus is a small old world monkey inhabiting southern coastal Kenya to southern Tanzania. The species activity budget is known to vary between seasons and areas, probably due to differences in group sizes, diets, predatory presence and resource competition. The variations between male and female activity budgets are reckoned to be a result of pregnancy and lactation. The aim of this study was to investigate potential differences in behaviours between morning and afternoon periods and between males and females. The study was carried out in two forest fragments in Diani Beach on the south coast of Kenya.

Competition of spruce fiber raw materials has increased dramatically in the last few years, leading to the fact that transportation costs in the current situation represents a much larger share of the total raw material cost. The Holmen-owned pulp industry Hallsta Paper Mill's location on the coast also constitutes a problem, because of the lack of raw material, which is much larger there, than for a pulp mill located in the hinterland. For a coastal industry it?s therefore natural to import much of the raw material by boat or to buy it from the timber terminals, in order to maintain good profitability. The purpose of this study was to analyze how the size of Hallsta Paper Mill timber supply area, without competition, with competition and with terminal use, affects the company ?s transport costs.

Danmarksplass is situated just outside the centre of the city of Bergen on the Norwegian west coast. It was built in the 1930´s as a result of an architecture competition won by the prominent Norwegian architect Ole Landmark. Danmarksplass was originally meant to function as a local square, but its location next to Fjösangerveien, a road that caters for most of the through traffic in the Bergen valley today and is part of one of the main European roads, E39, would prove it difficult for that idea to prevail. Along with the ever increasing car traffic, Danmarksplass has more and more become a very busy traffic junction. Nowadays the car is the sole ruler of Danmarksplass.

An increasing number of chemicals are being transported by ships along the Swedish coastline. Many of these chemicals may pose a threat to the environment. Accidents and spills are luckily rare, but nonetheless it is important to be prepared for a possible chemical spill. The Swedish Coast Guard is responsible for responding to chemical spills at sea, and has both equipment and trained personnel for the purpose. In order to prepare for a possible accident one also needs to know what is currently being transported at sea.

Temat för denna uppsats är att i en svensk kontext undersöka kulturella identiteter som befinner sig på gränsen mellan olika nationella och kulturella kategorier. Bakgrunden till att belysa denna typ av gränsposition är att i den korsas uppfattningar om svenskhet och främlingskap, tillhörighet och utanförskap, inkludering och exkludering.Uppsatsens syfte är att föra en teoretisk diskussion med empiriska illustrationer bestående av intervjumaterial från en ung kvinna som adopterats till Sverige från Indien och en ung man som migrerat till Sverige från Nicaragua. Genom sin hudfärg är dessa personer bärare av en annorlundaskapets markör i förhållande till den vita normen.Problemformuleringen gäller hur ursprungets diskurs upprättar villkor för kulturellt identitetsskapande på gränsen samt vilka möjligheter som finns att gå bortom dessa villkor. Det teoretiska ramverket bygger på konstruktivistisk forskning kring nation(alism), rasifiering, kulturella identiteter, representation och makt/kunskap.Uttryck för ursprungets diskurs hämtas i intervjupersonernas berättelser samt i en granskning av dominerande vetenskapliga och massmediala framställningar av "invandrarkillar" och "utlandsadopterade" i Sverige. I diskussionen kring både "invandrarkillar" och "utlandsadopterade", spelar metaforer om "rötter" och "rotlöshet" en speciell roll.

Maritim säkerhet har sedan terrorattentatet i New York 2001-09-11 varit ett begrepp utan en tydlig definition. Trots detta används det frekvent i Sverige när frågor angående säkerhet till havs diskuteras. Utgångspunkten i uppsatsen är en egen definition av begreppet och hur hoten bör hanteras. I likhet med det vidgade säkerhetsbegreppet krävs samarbete mellan civila och militära aktörer. Det för att uppnå de mål som sätts upp i Sveriges säkerhetspolitik angående säkerhet på den maritima arenan.

Vaccination of fish can be assumed to cause pain. This study was designed to see if we can minimize the suffering of fish following vaccination. Fishes are cold-blooded animals and thus more primitive than warm-blooded animals. Despite this, many organs, e.g. the nervous system, have the same basic structure as that of other vertebrates. The fibre system for conducting pain is more diffuse than in humans.

Det finnsolika syften med att genomföra operationer i det litorala området men det huvudsakliga syftet äratt tillse att sjötransportförbindelserna som till största del sker i det litorala området fungerar.Andra syften är t.ex. att med expeditionära styrkor kunna påverka en situation på land eller somSverige operera i det litorala området i syfte att försvara sig. De uppgifter som ska lösas i detlitorala området inkluderas av begreppet Littoral Warfare, men vad betyder det för de olikanationerna?Denna uppsats jämför hur USA, Storbritannien och Sverige ser på det litorala området ochbegreppet Littoral Warfare.

Coastal sediments are important carbon sinks, storing organic matter and thereby helping to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. However, they can also act as carbon sources if the deposited organic matter decomposes rapidly, contributing to increased greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. Rapid decomposition partly depends on the degradability of the material itself. In this literature review, I examine which coastal plant species dominate different locations along the Swedish coast, based on coverage data from the ClimScape project (www.climscape.se). For the most dominant species, I investigated the type of organic matter they may contribute to the sediments and based on those results I qualitatively assessed which sites that may function as carbon sinks or sources.

Over time, species colonize new areas naturally or through humans. The colonizers areoften few and founded populations represent only a fraction of the genetic diversityexisting in the original population. If the established population becomes isolated afterthe colonization event genetic diversity will remain low and if the population, in addition,remains small in size for an extended period this will lead to increased inbreeding andpossibly inbreeding depression. Metrioptera roeselii is a common species with awidespread distribution in continental Europe. During the last century, it has expanded tothe Scandinavian Peninsula which is separated from continental Europe by the Baltic Sea.My aim was to test the hypothesis that individuals in isolated populations in Scandinaviaincluding Denmark and the Baltic Sea islands are smaller than individuals in thecontinuous part of its distribution due to low genetic diversity and lacking incoming geneflow.

Under det senaste årtiondet har 97 % av den totala folkökningen tillkommit inom fem kilometer från kusten, främst kring storstadsregionerna. Tyresö kommun är en av Stockholms förorter. Kommunen har under åren köpt loss tomter i ett kustnära område vid Tyresö strand. Ekologigruppen ab har på uppdrag av kommunen gjort bedömningar av områdets naturvärden såväl som rekreativa värden. Bedömningarna är tänkta att kunna vila som beslutsunderlag för planering såväl som byggnationer i området.

Syfte och frågeställningarSyftet med studien var att undersöka omgivningens påverkan gällande den totala upplevelsen vid gång och löpning. Detta besvaras genom frågorna; finns det någon skillnad i puls, ansträngningsgrad och positiva känslor vid samma hastighet gällande gång och löpning utomhus jämfört med inomhus? Samt, upplever testpersonerna någon skillnad fysiskt och psykiskt efter gång och löpning utomhus jämfört med inomhus? MetodDetta är en experimentell studie med kvantitativ metod. Tre olika tester har genomförts i studien. Det första testet var ett kontrolltest som avsåg att få fram den hastighet som motsvarade testpersonens Borg RPE20 på nivå 11, 13 och 15.

During the past 20 years, the price of forest estates in Sweden has raised more than the price of timber. The purpose of this study is to investigate if it, despite this development, is possible to buy a forest estate based on economic grounds. Different forest parameters will also be studied to analyse their effect on the profitability. The study is done in cooperation with the company LRF Konsult. Purchase price of 34 forest estates near the coast of Norrbotten, Sweden, has been compared to yield valuation. For the valuation, guidelines from the Swedish author Lantmäteriet was used.

When creating a good lighting design it is crucial to know how different types of lamps work. Knowing what kind of light they emit and in which situations they work well is also very important. In this master thesis I present different types of lamps and give an account of how light is spread through the different shapes of luminaires, reflectors, filters and so on. I write about how our eyes register radiation and connections between lighting and how it makes us experience space. Furthermore I deal with the effect of artificial light on living organisms and the environment. After the theoretical studies I deal with the places I have visited to study how different lamps and luminaires work and look like in existing lighting designs. These visits have also been inspirational to my lighting proposal for Bokenäs. Bokenäs is Volvo?s resort and conference center which is situated on the Swedish west coast.

The aim and purpose with this essay is to identify the natural conditions of the New Orleans City region, and to establish an understanding of the disastrous event of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. Who lived in this area and how did this event affect the outcome of the disaster?The theory is based on two Swedish human geographers Torsten Hägerstrand and Thomas Lundén, and their theories on regional geography and political geography, also regarded as ?geopolitics?. Regional and Political Geography are explained as the relation between state and territory, power over the territory and the variables that affect the relations on different levels such as; economy, culture, technology, demography and communication.The author decided to use the quantitative method in the process of research, the essay underwent an overall analyzes of the media settings, articles, written literature and documentaries. The author has been very critical to the material and data that was presented by the American authorities, media and non governmental organisations.New Orleans City?s topography is unique in the matter that the city is constructed on a delta area, the Mississippi River, Missouri and Ohio River systems are all connected in New Orleans.
