Defining the concept of information has long been the subject of debate within Information Science (IS) and new challenges are constantly presented by new scientific discoveries and new theoretical positions. It is, nevertheless, of key importance for any academic discipline to find definitions on which there is a consensus. The paper therefore aims to clarify the relevance of one of these new theoretical approaches for IS, namely poststructuralism. It does so by describing the theories found in the writings of poststructuralists Mark C. Taylor, Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault, and discussing their relevance for the three definitions of information suggested by Michael Buckland (Information-as-knowledge, Information-as thing and Information-as-process), thereby answering the following questions: What relevance does Mark C.

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate on what perspective or perspectives university teachers and librarians at a medium-sized university in Sweden base their view on information literacy. More specifically, how do the respondents view their own information literacy and what opinions they have of their students? information literacy as professionals. Three perspectives are used to interpret the results, the sociocultural perspective, the phenomenographical perspective and the behavioristic perspective.The method used is semi structured interviews with three university teachers and three librarians.Both librarians and teachers emphasize the importance of information literacy, for themselves as well as for students. The information literacy of the librarians involves being well acquainted with the subjects of the students.

This Masters thesis in Library and Information Science has the title The New Information Desks at Malmö Public Library . During the rebuilding of the library in Malmö a new information desk was developed. This desk differs to a great extent from conventional information desks used in libraries. The information desk is triangular with rounded edges which allows the librarian and the user of the library to work side by side without any physical barriers. The aim of this thesis is to explore the requirements for the information desks formulated by the library and how they are perceived by the librarians and the users of the library.

Inriktningen på uppsatsen kommer att vara vilken nyttja och vilket behov svensk militär kan ha med helikoptern som verktyg i en militär operation.Ämnet belyses genom en analys av ett historiskt skeende där helikoptern för första gången fick påvisa sina styrkor och svagheter som verktyg i ett konfliktområde.Uppsatsen behandlar den delen av Vietnamkriget, då fokus från många nationer och inte minst närvaro av amerikansk militär var som störst (1965-75). Vietnamkriget är även väldokumenterat och ger ett bra underlag för denna typ av arbete.

Denna uppsats behandlar representationer av fadderskap i den kommersiella TV-kanalen TV4?s Faddergalan, ett välgörenhetsprogram som sändes mellan åren 1998-2009, i samarbete med biståndsorganisationen Plan Sverige. Uppsatsens syfte är att analysera hur fadderskapet konstrueras genom de representationer av fadder och fadderbarn som existerar i Faddergalan med en utgångspunkt i postkolonial teori. Studien har genomförts med hjälp av kvalitativ metod där diskurs och representation utgjort analysverktygen. Det empiriska materialet som ligger till grund för analysen omfattar samtliga program av Faddergalan som hittills sänts.

In a complex and turbulent world, several companies begin to realize the value of information as a strategic resource and try to find strategies to manage this. This master thesis aims to describe the information management at Axis Communications AB. Axis is a fast growing company and due to this they have not been able to manage the flow of information whitin the company. To find out how the information was managed at this time we made a survey and employee interviews at three Axis business units. By analyzing the surveys and interviews we found several problems.

In supporting an efficient way to gather and develop contact information for the Uppsala Association of Technology Physicist alumni, it is crucial to have in place an adequate and user-friendly system allowing the continuous collection and storage of such contact information. This can achieved by the creation of a website where alumni can enter information about themselves and where such information in turn is stored in a database. A database containing relevant tables has been developed in MySQL. In utilizing phpMyAdmin, the programming language PHP and Web Server Apache, a fully functional website to be included on the Association's website has been created..

The thesis aims at, from a user perspective, examining how a group of industrial researchers understand the information seeking in their every day work. A qualitative method is employed. The empirical material consists of open-ended interviews with in all ten researchers. All of them work at the Swiss-Swedish Technology Company ABB's research laboratory in Västerås. The thesis is based on the opinion that the scientific knowledge production has become commercialised and that the scientific communication is going through certain changes.

Purpose?This study has examined the information behaviour and perception of information in a group ofinformation users who have a critical approach to the media and the information supply. Some of them call themselvesor are being called conspiracy theorists. The purpose was to examine how their information behaviour is influenced by the belief that the information is biased or inaccurate and what the information behaviour looks like when the user searches for discrepancies rather than a response to a question.Method?The study is based on transcribed interviews and email responses to interview questions.

Uppsatsens syfte var att undersöka hur fyra legitimerade psykoterapeuter med lång yrkeserfarenhet tänker om och förhåller sig till begreppen Ansvar, Makt och Maktlöshetsamt hur de uppfattar att dessa påverkar det terapeutiska samtalet. Datainsamling genomfördes via intervjuer där ett semistrukturerat intervjuformulär har legat till grund för ett mer öppet samtal, därefter bearbetades materialet via kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultatet visar en stor samstämmighet beträffande psykoterapeuternas tankar och erfarenheter av ovanstående begrepp samt i hur dessa avspeglar sig i det terapeutiska samtalet. Exempel på detta är terapeuternas övertygelse att en terapeut-patientrelation per definition alltid är asymmetrisk samt att det som terapeut inte går att inte ha makt.Hur vi i den terapeutiska kontexten förhåller oss till ansvar, makt och maktlöshet kommer till uttryck i samtalet och påverkar de som söker vår hjälp. Att skapa en god och aktivt samverkande miljö för det gemensamma samtalet ställer höga krav på terapeuten.

The numbers of mergers and acquisitions have increased significantly in the last period of time. Although this popularity for mergers and acquisitions, most of the mergers and acquisitions fail to create value. One explanation to this failure of value creation is, according to several studies, how companies treat integration of information systems in the pre-merger evaluation. The research within the field argues that information system integration should have a proactive role in mergers and acquisitions, meaning that information system integration should support the organizational change and normally be considered in the premerger evaluation. The aim of this thesis is to study issues that affect whether companies choose to consider information system integration proactively, when involved in mergers and acquisitions.

Bankkriser genom historien följer ofta ett liknande mönster, men problemet är attmarknadsaktörerna ofta tror att varje kris är unik och tar därför inte hjälp av tidigare erfarenheterav kriser. Under perioden 1970-2007 har inte mindre än 42 bankkriser ägt rum i 37 länder. Desenaste exemplen för Sverige är 1990-talskrisen och den nuvarande bankkrisen. Genom att ha enstörre förståelse och kunskap för hur en bankkris uppkommer skulle eventuellt framtidabankkriser undvikas eller i alla fall förmildras.Sverre Knutsen och Hans Sjögren har vidareutvecklat en cykelmodell för vilka stadier en bankkrisgenomgår utifrån Charles Kindlebergers stegmodell för bankkriser som bygger påkonjunkturansatsen. Denna studie syftar beskriva och förklara 1990-talskrisen och dagensbankkris utifrån Knutsen och Sjögrens cykelmodell för bankkriser.

Bakgrund: Antalet cancerfall ökar konstant, men tack vare förbättrade metoder för att upptäcka och behandla cancer överlever allt fler denna sjukdom. Både sjukdomen och dess behandlingar kan ge en påverkan på kroppen, men även den sexuella lusten och funktionen kan påverkas och förändras. Ett fungerande sexualliv utgör en viktig del av livskvaliteten för de flesta. Vårdpersonalen har en viktig roll i att förbereda patienten på vilka symtom de kan förvänta sig, men patienterna önskar ofta avsevärt mycket mer information än vad som ges. Syfte: Att belysa cancerpatienters behov av sexualitetsrelaterad information.

The purpose with this study is to map the research front and the research base in information science, by using the bibliometric methods bibliographic coupling and author-co citation analysis. The research questions are: 1. What is the nature of the research front in information science, regarding which areas that are being studied? 2. What is the nature of the research base in information science, regarding which authors who are most cited, and how they can be grouped? The data used in the study were gathered from articles published in the journal Journal of the American society for information science and technology, published between 2004-2006, respectively 1986-2006.
