Research and development for expanding usability of a
multi-touch device

As new ways of using computers are constantly being developed, other ways of interacting are made possible. One of the most desired types of interaction with computers is a touch-screen where the user can actually organize everything simply by using the fingertips. The purpose of this project is to enhance an existing framework with an application that works with a touch-screen device. The application is to be used as a tool for presentational usage. The result is an application where the user by simple means can use a touch-screen to hold a professional presentation.

DATAKONSUMTIONEN I EN GWT-APPLIKATION : En jämförelsestudie mellan en webbapplikation skriven i GWT och en traditionell webbsite

Det finns flera anledningar till att minimera datamängden som överförs då en webbplats besöks. Ökad responsivitet och avlastning vid svåra förhållanden är två av dem. I denna rapport utforskas huruvida en webbapplikation, skriven i GWT och som använder sig av AJAX kan minska datakonsumtionen jämfört med en traditionell webbsite. Detta undersöks genom att två identiska webbplatser med avseende på innehåll och struktur skapas men som skiljer sig i hur webbsidorna byggs upp. En webbsite sammanställs i webbservern och skickar webbsidor till webbläsaren, en GWT-applikation skapar webbsidorna m.h.a.

This project has created a web-application for the service technicians at the paper plant Gruvön. The project was outsourced to the IT-company Sogeti.The application visualizes information about reparation-work of the equipment at the paper plant. The displayed information is work-orders, the status of the work-orders and errors. It is also possible to see the costs and hours spent on reparation-work.. The work-orders and related information is stored in a relational database.The application is created mainly for web-browsers in mobile-phones and tablets.

Middleware med Google Web Toolkit

Detta examensarbete har utförts i samarbete med företaget Systemagic AB. Systemagic är ett teknikföretag vars expertis ligger inom mjukvaruutveckling inom IPTV-teknologi. Detta innefattar bland annat utveckling av middleware till digitalboxar, också kallade Set-top-boxar.Middleware är den mjuk- och hårdvaruinfrastruktur som sammankopplar de olika delarna av ett IPTV-system. Det är ett distribuerat operativt system som både finns på operatörens servrar samt i slutanvändarens digitalbox. Då det idag ställs allt högre krav på funktionalitet och dynamik från beställare blir utvecklingen av ett modernt middleware mycket resurskrävande. Systemagic anser att en stor bidragande orsak till den resurskrävande utvecklingsprocessen kan kopplas till användningen av scriptspråket JavaScript och är därför intresserade av alternativa metoder.Google Web Toolkit (GWT) är ett Java-ramverk som kan användas för att på ett snabbt och smidigt sätt utveckla interaktiva webbapplikationer. Detta möjliggörs genom att all utveckling sker i Java.

This report describes the development of an application in collaboration with Designingenjörerna AB. The company has worked for a long time with a community platform and they required an application where users can create their own unique profile representations, called Avatar Creator. An Avatar Creator is computer based application, which makes it possible to create a virtual character. The problem area behind this is that, large websites require a lot of administrative work when people upload profile pictures on different community pages. They can contain abusive material or pictures of other people rather than those who created the profile.The questions in this report are, how can an Avatar Creator help user to get a unique profile of himself? What are the advantages and disadvantages of an Avatar Creator? How to create a user-friendly application?To understand how an Avatar Creator works and get ideas to create an application, exiting Avatar Creators were reviewed on the Web.Collaborative work with Designingenjörerna AB was done to pin down the requirements for the Avatar creator application.

Avståndsvarnare till Mobiltelefon

This report describes a study, description and testing of parts to an application adapted to the operating system Android. The application is supposed to measure the distance to a car ahead. Apart from distance measurements the ability of the application to calculate its own speed with the help of GPS is tested. From these two parameters, speed, distance and some constants the theoretical stopping distance of the car will be calculated in order to warn the driver if the car is too close to the car ahead in relation to its own speed and stopping distance.Tests were conducted on the different applications that were programmed and the result showed that the camera technique in the mobile phone itself limits the maximum distance of the distance measurement application. The max distance the tests in this thesis revealed was approximately 5 meters.

På ytan av interaktionsdesign : En undersökning om hur designen på en Microsoft Surface SUR40 applikation kan förbättras för flera användare

The purpose of this thesis is to examine and analyze how to improve the design of a Microsoft Surface SUR40 application. The application in focus was an interactive product browser developed by the company Spree, our external client. Spree is a multi-touch software provider, established in September 2010 and they expressed a need for suggestions for how to improve this application. Our work aimed at revealing how to make the application more suitable for several users and make it easier for them to interact simultaneously on the surface. From a qualitative standpoint we have examined how 17 users experienced the application.

The technology used in the development of web-applications is evolving at such rate that it has become more and more important to keep web-applications modern. If an application is based on a technical platform that is not renewed, the platform may over time develop into an obstacle in further development of the application. There may be compatibility issues and some of the code may be unnecessary due to abstraction, and therefore more time consuming to work with. Sometimes the reason may be that an application has been built to run, and is running on an application server that is no longer being maintained. The system can be large and modernization can cost a lot.

This thesis describes the design and implementation of an application programming interface (API) to be used when developing volume-rendering applications. A complete application programming interface has been designed. The interface is designed so that it makes writing application programs containing volume rendering fast and easy. The aim of this report is to give the reader insight into the development of theweb-based accounting application SuperBooky. Accounting is a complex task thatmany beginner entrepreneurs struggle with. The development of this application wastherefore focused on making accounting as convenient and as easy as possible. Theend product targets small enterprises and its functionality was designed with this inmind.To make sure that the application was designed in a user-friendly way, polls werecarried out among individuals with basic accounting knowledge. Application development for automated positioning of 3D-representations of a modularized product

This thesis presents an application that performs positioning of modules automatically based on given data for every module, and the development of it. The basis of the application is from a previous thesis code. On top of that code, more features and error handling has been added, as well as fixes for various bugs. A stress test has been performed and further development possibilities are being presented.The thesis work was carried out at Toyota Material Handling Mjölby (TMH) and was made in parallel with another thesis by Fredrik Holden who was generating data for the application.
