In studies of serum, in the early 1930s, from patients with pneumonia, a factor was found. It could agglutinate certain pneumococcal species. This factor, which later became known as C-reactive protein (CRP), increased sharply during the early and middle stages of the disease. CRP was identified as an acute phase protein and found especially in bacterial infections. CRP is synthesized in the liver by stimulation of interleukin 6 (IL-6), which is produced by the monocytes, and consists of five non-covalently bound subunits.The aim of this study was to compare two different analytical instruments (Vitros 5.1 FS Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics and QuikRead CRP Orion Diagnostica) for CRP analysis.

There is currently an ongoing discussion in Sweden about the need for weather shelter for farm animals being kept outdoors during the winter season. Currently, the national animal welfare legislation requires weather shelter providing the animals? with access to a dry and clean place to rest, but under certain conditions exemptions can be granted. The Swedish Board of Agriculture has put forward a hypothesis that there is a difference between judicial decisions in animal welfare cases dealing with weather shelters, as to whether the animal has shown to be suffering or not. The aim of the study was to highlight any weaknesses or difficulties when assessing animal welfare issues associated to the absence of or design of weather shelters.

This qualitative study is done with the purpose of creating understanding for the theoretical democratic content in educational materials for Civic Education courses 1a1 and 1b during GY-11, so teachers create an intentional approach when using educational materials in their democratic education. This was motivated as important considering the reduction in obligatory Civic Education for the vocational programs. The study was conducted using a hermeneutic qualitative reading method where the educational materials, more specifically two series with one book for each course, was read with purpose of creating understanding for the democratic content according to ideal democratic models: deliberative democracy, participatory democracy and electoral democracy. A text voice analysis was also conducted using Bakhtins theory of dialogic and monologue text that contributed to the general result concerning the democratic content. The results show that the electoral democracy ideal is dominant in all educational materials, there is hence no striking difference between the democratic content in 1a1 and 1b educational materials.

Den antimikrobiella peptiden LL-37 finns uttryckt i alla kroppens slemhinnor och lagras i stora mängder i sekundära granula hos neutrofiler och monocyter. Förutom dess antimikrobiella effekt uppvisar LL-37 pro- alternativt anti-apoptotisk effekt på eukaryota celler beroende på celltyp. I denna studie visar vi för första gången den pro-apoptotiska effekten av LL-37 på den humana osteoblastcellinjen MG63. Vid stimulering med 4?M iakttogs en reduktion av cellantalet med 40% och en utbredd celldöd kunde fastställas genom Trypan Blue-infärgning.

FPGA-kort är ett bra verktyg för företag som snabbt vill kunna ta fram en prototyp för nya projekt, då de är omprogrammeringsbara så att samma hårdvara kan användas för att göra prototyper till mänger av olika system. Ett vanligt programmeringsspråk för att programmera FPGA-kort är VHDL som är ett hårdvarunära språk. Som ett komplement till VHDL är det väldigt användbart att kunna köra något mer generellt programspråk som till exempel C. Even so, it should be noted that they still tend to be abit ashamed to talk about Internet dating, and some don?t want to be associated with it.The communication pattern tend to be pretty much the same among both groups.

The purpose with the work is to study Fortums activities with hydro power plants, dams and reservoirs mainly in a premise jurisdictional perspective and to show how GIS would be a helpful tool for the future.A great deal of the information that the Generation Hydro-division at Fortum are managing have a spatial element. That means that it is possible to spatially join this information to a geographical polygon, line or point. This information is today gathered from several different sources, such as files, paper maps and digital data of several kinds. A Geographic Information System (GIS), as and aid besides the ordinary tools should be an effective support in the everyday work with questions of a premise jurisdictional nature.The goal of this work is to account for how to organize, present and analyse geographic information. We will show how to link from the map to traditional tools such as calculation- and register programs.

Hur påverkar en författare sin berättelse, hur viktig är berättarens människosyn? Vad är människans natur, vad är oföränderligt, vad är inlärt, och hur påverkar det berättaren och det som berättas? Dessa var några av de frågor som vi ställdes inför när vi åtog oss kommunikationsuppdraget att uppmärksamma Kvidinges 700-årsjubileum. Vi bestämde oss för att skapa ett häfte och en film. Frågan var: Hur kan människors levnadsöden berättas om på ett sätt som visar både den oföränderliga mänskliga naturen och anpassningen till de föränderliga sociala och kulturella normerna? Vi sökte svaren på dessa frågor genom litteratur och intervjuer med människor som är väl insatta i berättarkonsten.

AbstractIt is unclear how L2 students acquire vocabulary ? how is it taught ? or wheather it can even be taught. In an SSL (Swedish as second language) program for young adults the ambition has been to integrate the L2 students? into the national high school (gymnasium) courses as quickly as possible, in order to meet the students? demands for subject education and to challenge them on an appropriate knowledge level. Teachers noticed quite early that the course ? integrated L2 students seemed to have a deeper understanding of words and an easier flow in their speech.

Agency theory describes the conflict of interest between the principal (stockholders) and the agent (CEO). Aligning the incentives of executives with those of the owners is the most direct way to mitigate the agency problem. If there is no meaningful link between CEO compensation and company performance, it is doubtful that the large sums of assets in public corporations are being managed efficiently. In theory the solution is simple reward the CEO when shareholders wealth increases. The purpose of this paper is to investigate if there is a relationship between company performance and CEO compensation among Swedish companies, in materials and information technology industry.

Detta examensarbete syftar till att utifrån ett normkritiskt genusperspektiv undersöka attityder hos pojkar ? som representanter av det manliga könet ? i åttonde klass, med avseende på könsskillnader i skolresultat, både vad det gäller orsaker till och konsekvenser av dessa skillnader. Detta har lett oss till att i vår teoretiska grund lägga fokus på mannen som normbärare i samhället. För att uppnå syftet genomfördes en kvalitativ gruppintervju med fem pojkar i årskurs åtta. Det empiriska råmaterialet analyserades och tolkades genom en indelning i fyra huvudteman: 1) fritidsaktiviteters inverkan, 2) omgivningens förväntningar på pojkar som grupp, 3) föräldrarnas akademiska och ekonomiska bakgrund och 4) naturliga skillnader med mannen som måttstock.

The Energy Performance Certification in Sweden was developed as a tool to achieve the Government's target to reduce Sweden's energy consumption by 20 percent by 2020. The Energy Performance Certificate has previously received some criticism for not fulfilling its purpose. Questions that formed the basis for this report is how the energy performance certification provides support to buyers of single-family houses and if the energy performance improved in terms of reliability. The report begins with a background description that describes how the energy declaration works and some of the findings of previous evaluations and surveys. A survey to investigate the broker's position to energy performance have been conducted as well as interviews with buyers and sellers of houses. An investigation whether the energy performance can vary between different calculation programs, depending on various assumptions made by the energy declarant, has been made.Brokers and sellers have proved negative attitudes towards energy performance, particularly brokers.

This thesis has been carried out in cooperation with a company which develops mobile sensor platforms. The sensors measure different types of data such as temperature, pressure etc.. They will communicate through the internet with a server that stores data in a database. This system will be controlled and monitored through a web page. The project's aim has been to develop this system and to implement a server, a database, a website and a client application that simulates sensor signals.
