Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common heart disease in cats. Maine coon is one of the breeds where the disease is overrepresented. Studies have shown that HCM is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait in Maine Coon cats. This finding has led to cardiac screening using ultrasound in the breed. The results of the screening are used in a national breeding program constructed to reduce the spread and incidence of HCM in Maine Coon cats.

Pyometra is a common and life threatening disease of intact bitches. The disease is caused by a hormonal influence on the uterus in combination with a bacterial infection. The most common treatment is ovariohysterectomy, but several medical options are available to maintain fertility or avoid surgery and anaesthesia. Drugs that can be used for medical treatment are for example progesterone-receptor antagonists, prostaglandins and dopamine agonist. The present study focused on treatment with the progesterone-receptor antagonistaglepristone in combination with antimicrobial therapy.

The aim of this two years master thesis in Library and information science is to study the foundation Centrum för lättläst and its work regarding information use with focus on information structures and information needs. The aim is also to examine how Centrum för lättläst cooperate with Swedish libraries to promote the work concerning people with reading disabilities. This master thesis applies a domain analytic theory and method inspired by Birger Hjørland. The domain analysis is confined to examine ontology, epistemology, sociology, empirical user studies, document and genre studies and studies of structures and institutions in scientific communication. The main source material consists of information from the homepage of Centrum för lättläst.

Introduction : Structural cardiac malformations affects 0.8-1% of children born worldwide, in Sweden 800-1000 children per year. Most children with congenital heart disease and their families will have frequent and lifelong contact with highly specialized care. Awareness of the parents experience is crucial in order to improve the nursing care. These experiences will be illustrated using a theoretical model of family-based nursing. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe experiences of being a parent to a child with a congenital heart disease.

Den här studien handlar om olika diskurser kring genitala ingrepp på personer som upplever att de har en annan könsidentitet än den juridiska könstillhörigheten, och vill genomföra en juridisk könsändring. Syftet med uppsatsen var att genom analyser av dessa diskurser försöka förstå hur genitalierna är kopplade till den sociala konstruktionen av kön och genus. Intervjuer har gjorts med personer som finns med i utrednings- och beslutsprocess eller har verkställighetsfunktion som berör de genitala ingreppen. Det har inneburit psykiatriker, kirurger och jurister. Intervjuer har även gjorts med föreningsrepresentanter för transsexuella, före detta transsexuella och transpersoner.

Bakgrund: Kroniskt obstruktiv lungsjukdom (KOL) är den fjärde vanligaste dödsorsaken i världen och beräknas öka i omfattning. Det är en irreversibel sjukdom som förvärras med tiden och som innebär att lungorna får svårare att ta upp syre. Rökning är den främsta orsaken att drabbas av KOL, vilket gör rökstopp till den viktigaste åtgärden för att begränsa sjukdomens förlopp. Trots det fortsätter många att röka efter att de har fått sin diagnos. Syfte: Syftet med litteraturstudien var att belysa patienters erfarenheter av att röka vid KOL.

The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of how teachers and other people working with mathematics in a school context perceive inclusion in terms of education. In addition,the purpose is to describe their experiences of inclusive education in mathematics and to identify factors of importance for an inclusive approach to teaching mathematics. The starting point was the significance of inclusive education as regards the education system and research on the implementation of inclusive education internationally and in Sweden. The theoretical approach is founded in a special education perspective on teaching and the theory of optimal experience. The people interviewed for this study are directly or indirectly involved in the teaching of mathematicsat a school that explicitly works from an inclusive perspective.

Dagligen kommer barn till sjukhus inför en planerad operation. De flesta barn är mer eller mindre ängsliga. De kommer till en okänd miljö och vet inte vad som ska hända. Att inte veta vad som ska hända skapar oro och rädsla. Barns oro och rädsla inför planerad operation kan även påverka barnets beteende negativt efter operationen med bland annat separationsångest och sömnsvårigheter.

Syfte: Syftet med föreliggande studie var att beskriva förberedelser och distraktionsmetoder som sjuksköterskor använder sig av i samband med smärtsamma omvårdnadsprocedurer för att hjälpa barn i åldern 4-6 år samt vilka fördelar detta hade.Metod: En deskriptiv design användes till den kvalitativa studien. Materialet inhämtades genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med nio sjuksköterskor som arbetade på barnkliniker. Det insamlade materialet analyserades genom kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Huvudresultat: Resultatet av berättelserna kunde kategoriseras i ?Sociala och praktiska förberedelser?, ?Ickefarmakologiska distraktionsmetoder?, ?Farmakologiska distraktionsmetoder? samt ?Distraktionen kan hjälpa barnet att främja dess självkänsla?.

Small scale internal consumer tests provide a company with a cheap way to get valuable information regarding their products advantages and flaws. Therefore the demand for possibilities to do this kind of test has increased. This report is part of a new sensory project at Unilever. It presents a method for sensory comparison of the company?s own products with the corresponding competitor products.

In Sweden according to the planning and building Act municipalities have planning monopoly. The question about shopping centres in the outskirts of cities is a regional issue, because they attract customers from a large area. Municipalities often find it hard to assert themselves against large commercial companies when it comes to their establishing new retail outlets on the outskirts of cities. Without a regional co-operation there is a risk that municipalities can be played up against one another, so that more and more companies are given permits without the municipalities having taken the strategic consideration necessary for a long term sustainable development. The focus in this work is on four municipalities in the Södertörn region (Södertälje, Botkyrka, Huddinge and Nynäshamn).

The focus of this Master thesis isSetBased Concurrent Engineering(SBCE), with the purpose of answering the questions: what isSBCE, how does it work, and for what purposes is it applied.It was early established thatSBCE is often included as a part of Lean product development,which in its turn is often related to Toyota?s way of working. TheSBCE method includesworking with multiple solutions in parallel, eliminating weak alternatives throughout thewhole process. In opposite to a conventional product development process, where it iscommon one at an early stage tries to identify and choose the most promising alternative.Despite the appearance ofSBCE as a resource consuming method, figures from Toyotaindicates the opposite, thatSBCE is in fact a very effective way of working compared to othermore traditional methods.The process of this Master thesis was divided into three phases.

In 2006, Stora Enso Skog implemented an education program in water management for harvester operators, timber purchasers, cut block planners and supervisors. The focus of the program was creating stream crossings with minimal harm to the stream and the surrounding riparian area. This main purpose of this study was to determine the difference in work procedures before and after participating in the program. The methodology consisted of field studies and interviews with harvester operators and their supervisors. The field study looked at how the streams had been crossed concerning the number of crossings, visible damage to the stream and/or the riparian area made by the machines. Biological parameters such as the width and dept of the stream and amount of large woody debris in the stream were also measured. The field result from 30 harvesting sites showed no significant difference between sites that had been harvested before or after the education program. But the harvester operators and their supervisors experienced an increased concern for watersheds after the educational program.

Bakgrund: Varje år drabbas cirka 8000 kvinnor av bröstcancer och är därmed den vanligast förekommande cancerformen hos kvinnor. Den främsta behandlingsformen är kirurgi där man vanligtvis väljer att utföra en mastektomi, där hela bröstet opereras bort, eller bröstbevarande kirurgi. Förlusten av ett eller båda brösten ger ofta fysiska och psykiska konsekvenser. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva kvinnors upplevelser av sin hälsorelaterade livskvalitet och psykosociala hälsa efter mastektomi med eller utan rekonstruktion. Metod: En deskriptiv studie med kvalitativ metod användes.
