Pulsed inhaled Nitric Oxide - a possible way to treat hypoxemia in colic horses during abdominal surgery
The aim of the present study was to evaluate if pulsed inhaled nitric oxide (PiNO) could be used as a treatment for hypoxemia during general anaesthesia in colic horses. Previous studies have shown a positive response in horses receiving PiNO in comparison to controls, but these studies have only included healthy individuals.
Background: Earlier studies show that 30-92 % of ACL reconstructed return to their pre-injury physical activity. It is not clear why some people do not return.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the return rate to pre-injury sport among ACL reconstructed men.
This study examines what effect swimming has on the rehabilitation, compared with only
resting after a cranial cruciate ligament surgery. It consists of a literature study, an inquiry
study and a visit to a rehabilitation centre.
The inquiry study shows that ten weeks after a cranial cruciate ligament repair, the
lameness has disappeared in a greater number of dogs among those that undergo
swimming as physiotherapy compared with those that do not swim. Literature shows that
swimming has a positive effect on the result after surgery. The thigh circumference
increases faster, the limb function improves more and the range of motion gets larger.
Dogs should therefore be recommended swimming as rehabilitation after surgery for a
rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament..

ABSTRACT The purpose of this medical record research was to study 30 patients with chronic subdural hematoma on a neurosurgical clinic, mapping documented nutritional status, preoperative fasting and hydration and energy supply before surgery. In addition peroperative administration of fluid and vasoactive drugs, as well as postoperative complications and length of hospital stay were studied. The mean age of the patients was 71 years. Nutritional status was evaluated in 12 patients, out of these seven were judged to be at risk for under nutrition. Fifteen patients had surgery day 1 (total fasting time on average m 11 h), eleven had surgery day 2(29 h), three had surgery day 3 (35 h).
Early extubation of cardiac surgery patients has become increasingly important. The assessment of the patient before an early extubation is crucial and the intensive care nurses (ICU nurses) in this estimation is there for very important. The aim of this study was to examine critical care nurses' knowledge of early extubation, and what view ICU nurse has about factors that affect the time to extubation of cardiac surgery patients.A quantitative approach with descriptive and comparative design was used. Selection was all ICU nurses at a thoracic intensive care unit who were clinically active in patient care. The study showed that ICU nurses had good knowledge of why an early extubation was essential. However, the knowledge about the unit?s extubation criteria was low.
