Steroid-responsive meningitis-arteritis (SRMA) is a common form of meningitis in dogs. The condition is immunopathological, but the etiology is not yet fully understood. The aim of this study was to compile facts about the disease from records of Swedish dogs. The owners were interviewed by telephone for follow up where it was possible. 15 dogs were included in the study. All of them were neurologically examined in the Small Animal Clinic at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

Bakgrund: En procent av den svenska befolkningen får någon gång i livet diagnosen schizofreni. Sjukdomen kan leda till funktionsnedsättningar som påverkar det dagliga livet. Det kan vara svårt att förstå upplevelsen av att leva med schizofreni. Det finns positiva symtom som rösthallucinationer och vanföreställningar, det finns även negativa symtom som viljelöshet, apati och osocialt beteende. Syfte: Att belysa personers upplevelser av att leva med schizofreni.

Syftet med denna intervjustudie var att beskriva närståendes upplevelser när en person överlevt hjärtstopp och som därefter genomgått hypotermibehandling. Åtta intervjuer ligger till grund för studien. Dataanalys genomfördes med en kvalitativ tematisk innehållsanalys. Analysen resulterade i åtta kategorier som sammanfördes i tre teman: att livet stannar upp, att känna tillit och stöd och att känna oro inför framtiden. Resultatet visade att deltagarna upplevde händelsen som skrämmande då personen helt oväntat drabbats av ett hjärtstopp.

Kroppens prestation försämras vid höghöjdsvistelse pga. syrebrist och individer kan drabbas av akut höjdsjuka (AMS). Samtidigt acklimatiserar sig kroppen genom att bl.a. öka syreupptaget som kompensation för det låga syretrycket. Studiens syfte var att undersöka hur hemoglobinkoncentrationen (Hb) påverkas av hög höjd och om det finns någon korrelation mellan Hb i vila eller Hb-ökningen under arbete tillika individers välmående på hög höjd.

The thesis had its starting point in the first paragraph of the eleventh chapter in the Swedish social services act, which discusses the immediate risk assessments that has to be made when the social services receive a report about a child. The thesis highlights an area that has received a lot of attention in media since the spring of 2014, when an eight year old girl was fatally abused by her legal guardians. The social services had at the time received a report about the girl but it was left unread. This tragic case has brought attention to the routines used by the social services for dealing with reports and risk assessments. This thesis was conducted through individual interviews with social workers working with children and families in the social services, with the aim to acquire an enhanced understanding of how social workers perform immediate risk assessments and what these assessments are based on.

In this essay dog as a compatible model were put against human. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes were compared between dogs, human, cat and mouse. To evaluate dog as a model and study similarities and differences was the aim with this review. Dog as a model contributes to understand mechanisms behind autoimmune diseases and showed clearly histological similarities between human and dogs concerning the skin disease mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP)/cicatricial pemphgioid (CP). Further genetic evidence motivated the choice of using dog as a comprehensive model when the MHC-complex correlated with hypothyroiditis in Doberman dog as it does in human. Physiological similarities with low levels of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) together with high level of thyroid releasing hormone (TSH) were found in the same way as in human.

AbstractBackground: When an acute illness or trauma occurs, life becomes disorganised and shattered for the critically ill person and his/her family members. The family members are confronted with thoughts about life and death which can cause stress and anxiety. How the family members cope with the crisis is individual and depending on personality and earlier experiences. Aim: The purpose of this literary review was to illustrate the family members´ experiences when dealing with a critically ill family member. Method: A literary review was made based on fifteen qualitative and quantitative scientific articles and a literary book.

Vid akut respiratorisk svikt är vård av patient i bukläge en potentiellt kostnadseffektiv åtgärd för att öka syresättning och lungcompliance. Det är dock en riskfylld åtgärd som kräver multipla omvårdnadsåtgärder. Syftet med den här uppsatsen var att beskriva specialistsjuksköterskan inom intensivvårds erfarenheter av att vårda patient som ventilatorbehandlas i bukläge. Uppsatsen genomfördes med en kvalitativ design. Intervjun genomfördes i fokusgrupp med fyra deltagare.

In this essay I have studied Aftonbladets portrayal of the Swedish businessman Jan Stenbeck and if the reporting changes before and after his death, and if so, in which ways. With help from a qualitative syntax analysis and a content analysis I studied my material about Stenbeck during the time period 2000-09-19 to 2004-09-19. In my quantitative analysis I studied 140 articles and in my syntax analysis I studied ten articles, five before and five after Stenbecks death. The theoretical perspectives that I applied in my study is Sigurd Allerns theory about tabloid papers novelty criteria and Adam Shehatas theory about Framing. Allerns theory describes what criteria the tabloid papers have on news and Shehatas theory about framing describes the political forces behind the news who wants to set their own agenda.

The aim of the study was to investigate whether the sedation method had an effect on the screening result for hip dysplasia (HD). Another aspect considered was if the dog?s weight had an impact on the results. This study was a follow up on the results from an earlier study of sedation routines in Swedish dogs. The breeds included in this study were the same as in the earlier one; German shepherd, Bernese mountain dog, Boxer, Newfoundland, Rottweiler, Saint Bernard, Golden and Labrador Retriever.

Bakgrund: Cirka 30 000 personer insjuknar i hjärtinfarkt i Sverige årligen och det är den största folksjukdomen. Hjärtinfarkt är inte bara ett akut tillstånd, utan även en kronisk sjukdom. Vid insjuknande är det därför viktigt att personerna får information för att förstå sitt tillstånd.Syfte: Syftet med studien var att belysa personers upplevelse av information given av sjukvårdspersonal efter att ha insjuknat i hjärtinfarkt.Metod: Studien gjordes som en litteraturstudie med kvalitativ ansats där nio vetenskapliga artiklar ligger till grund för studiens resultat. Analysen utfördes enligt Graneheim och Lundman.Resultat: Analysen resulterade i upplevelserna: personerna fick information på varierande sätt från sjukvårdspersonalen, Informationen gav stöd och trygghet och Saknar tillräcklig information.Slutsats: Personer som insjuknat i hjärtinfarkt upplever att de får bristande information om sitt hälsotillstånd och livet efter. Därför är det viktigt att sjukvårdspersonalen ger information anpassad efter individens förutsättningar.

Sömn är ett av människans mest grundläggande behov och att främja den tillhör sjuksköterskans ansvarsområden. Reducerad sömn kan leda till både psykiska och fysiska konsekvenser. Syftet med uppsatsen var att beskriva vad som kan påverka sömnen hos patienter med hjärt-kärlsjukdom. Vald metod för uppsatsen var en litteraturstudie och arbetsmetoden utgick från Polit och Becks nio steg. Efter granskning med granskningsmallar, från Avdelningen för omvårdnad vid Karlstads universitet, valdes tolv artiklar att bilda uppsatsens resultat.

The aim of the study was to examine the retinal ON- and OFF-pathways of the canine electroretinogram (ERG). The ON- and OFF-pathways are used to distinguish objects from their backgrounds. A dark object is discernible from a lighter background using the OFFpathway and the ON-pathway is used to descry a light object upon a darker background. This study shows that the dog ERG has both ON- and OFF-responses and that these responses can be separated by prolonging the flash duration over 50 ms. The dog OFF-response waveform was more similar to the cat OFF-response than the human OFF-response (Frishman, 2006; Zrenner and Gouras, 1979). In this study six female three-year-old Beagle dogs were included. Both background and flash stimuli were provided by LEDs (light emitting diodes) with a wavelength of 470 nm, a wavelength that is absorbed almost as effectively by the canine M/L-cones as by the S-cones. These stimuli gave ERGs with both ON- and OFF-responses.

För det första konstaterade jag att det är väldigt svårt att mäta produktivitetsförändringar inom IT-området. Trots svårtigheterna att mäta förändringar var det en som uttryckligen lyckats åstadkomma mer under arbetstiden eftersom intranätet medfört att han kunnat byta ut restimmar mot arbetstimmar. Dessutom kom jag fram till att alla respondenter erhåller mer information än vad de behöver till sina respektive arbetsuppgifter. Situationen är mest akut för människor som är ute och reser mycket, och därför inte har en daglig kontakt till intranätet. Många av intranätanvändarna väljer hellre att ta avstånd från intranätet än att riskera att drabbas av för mycket information.Det är inte många av intranätanvändarna som sitter och letar efter information. Utan hittar de inte informationen på intranätet tar de kontakt med personer som de tror ?sitter med informationen?.

Numerous dogs are stressed during a stay at a veterinary clinic. Stress has an impact physically as well as mentally, and may influence animal care. There are different ways to prevent and handle animal stress. Dog Appeasing Pheromones (DAP) is sometimes used to reduce stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential need for stressreducers, explore the use of DAP and evaluate pheromonatherapy for dogs as a potential stressreducer within veterinary health care.
