In this essay, I make a queer feminist analysis of Mats Strandberg?s and Sara Bergmark Elfgren?s teenage novel ?Cirkeln?, which is about six teenage girls who learn that they are witches with a mission to save the world from demons. Using Judith Butler's theories, I examine the norms of sex/gender, ethnicity, class and sexuality found in the text and how these standards are created. I also analyze whether, and if so how, these standards may change when the magical elements enter the text.I also discuss the fact that older Gothic novels with magical elements often have been regarded as queer through history. .

The objective of this study was to uncover what aspects of urban plazas and parks that are most important for users? evaluations of places? aesthetics and microclimate (the characteristic climate for a limited space). This was done by investigating people?s general ideas of plazas and parks (the prototypical concepts) and compare these with place users? descriptions of four specific places. Interviews with two groups (31 and 24 persons respectively) were carried out in order to collect this information.

Studiens syfte är att synliggöra hur andraspråkselever på högstadiet beskriver sin upplevelse och sin förståelse då de läser faktatexter i de praktisk-estetiska ämnena. För att undersöka detta, har följande frågeställningar valts:Vilka svårigheter beskriver andraspråkselever att de upplever i läsningen av och arbetet med faktatexter? Hur beskriver andraspråkselever att de går tillväga för att förstå faktatexter?Studien bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer med sju andraspråkselever i årskurserna 8 och 9. Intervjuerna har analyserats utifrån en sociokulturell ansats, vilken bl a poängterar vikten av social interaktion samt språkets betydelse för tänkande och lärande.Resultatet visar att informanternas erfarenheter av läsning av faktatexter främst kommer från de naturvetenskapliga och de samhällsvetenskapliga ämnena, samt matematik. Deras erfarenheter av läsning i de praktisk-estetiska ämnena förefaller begränsad, förutom i hem- och konsumentkunskap.

European cities of today are under the challenge to find ways to stay competitive and flourish in a rapidly changing world, where the old patterns of centrality and periphery not necessarily holds true. New and improved communication networks, a changed political geography in Europe, and the globalisation of not only the financial and industrial markets but also to a certain extent the globalisation of people, have all led to great challenges for cities and regions.In a changed spatial reality the classic monocentric models are challenged by newer models of urbanisation. The polycentric urban region is one such model which has been used to describe urban regions like the Randstad in the Netherlands and the Rhein-Ruhr region in Germany. Regions which lack the single dominant central city of the monocentric models of old, and instead shows a high degree of more equal-sized and sometimes more specialised cities in regional cooperation. The polycentric urban region is in that aspect a possible model for how other urbanised regions in Europe may act to be able to position themselves as attractive urban regions and regional hubs in the European urban network.Polycentric urban regions are not a universal solution, though.

Taking a qualitative approach, this research investigates different theories and methods for creating parks that people will cherish and visit during their daily life. It also takes on the task to understand how principles of developing recreational values in a small forest is affected by the addition of a new element to the landscape, i.e. a major highway. This thesis has been carried out at the Department of Urban and Rural Development at SLU Ultuna during the spring semester 2009. The topic of the paper is how energy consumption can be influenced through design and if the conditions for good design decreases when solutions based on energy efficiency are used. The report is divided into one literature study and one part where energy efficient solutions are used in a design. The thesis work has its origin in a project called "Energihus i Uppsala." The planned building will be a center for energy research in Uppsala. The project aims to demonstrate to the public what is currently happening in research related to energy.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur två skolor integrerar barn som nyss kommit till Sverige. Vi gjorde en kvalitativ intervjustudie, där två skolor besöktes. På båda skolorna intervjuades en rektor och en pedagog. Dessa två skolor valdes ut på grund av deras mångfald av invandrarbarn. Den ena skolan har ett större antal barn med annan kultur än den andra skolan som har mesta dels svenska barn.

Vårt syfte är att undersöka om elevers matematiska språk och begrepp gynnas av en ämnesintegration mellan rytmik och matematik. För att kunna besvara våra frågeställningar har vi gjort klassrumsobservationer, elevenkäter, intervjuat fem elever och två pedagoger. Resultatet av vår undersökning visar att pedagogernas språkliga medvetenhet reflekteras i deras undervisning. Pedagogerna använder sig av ett tydligt och korrekt matematiskt språk. Matematiska ord och begrepp tydligt synliggörs i ett för eleverna verklighetsförankrat sammanhang, genom ämnesintegration.

The house of one of the most prominent Swedish artists of the 20th century, Bror Hjorth (1894-1968), was turned into an artists-museum and opened to the public in 1978. This master thesis investigates attitudes toward electronic publishing of fiction among the key participants authors and publishers in Sweden with the overall purpose of analysing the nature of these attitudes and what sort of tensions that exist between the two groups. The major areas of concern were formulated as: what sort of attitudes do authors and publishers display toward electronic publishing of fiction?, how do these attitudes affect the way the two groups relate to electronic publishing and to each other? and how do they perceive the future of this practice?. Everett Rogers diffusion of innovations theory was applied to characterise electronic publishing as an innovation cluster, and to investigate innovation attributes in form of relative advantages and disadvantages, compatibility, complexity, trialability and observability. Data was gathered using quantitative questionnaires, but respondents were also given the opportunity to elaborate freely on some of the questions.

Inducerad pluripotens innebär att man inducerar mogna celler till att övergå i ett pluripotent stadium och bilda så kallade inducerade pluripotenta celler (iPS-celler). Detta görs till exempel genom viral integration av transkriptionsfaktorerna octamer-binding transcription factor 3 och 4 (Oct3/4), sex determining region Y-box 2 (Sox2), Krüppel-like factor 4 (Klf4) och c-Myc. Pluripotenta celler har förmågan att bilda vilken vävnadstyp som helst i kroppen och detta vill man i framtiden använda för behandling av olika degenerativa tillstånd så som Parkinsons sjukdom. Idag kan iPS-celler inte användas kliniskt eftersom de ger upphov till tumörtyperna teratom och teratokarcinom vid injektion in vivo. Under de senaste åren har mycket forskning lagts ned på att hitta metoder som förhindrar/minskar teratombildningen. Ett sätt att förhindra detta är genom att låta iPS-celler differentiera, så att deras pluripotensgrad minskar innan de injiceras.

Införande av nya IT-system inom organisationer bidrar till att stora ändringar sker i de anställdas arbetssätt och kan därmed leda till att motstånd till det nya sättet att arbeta på uppstår.Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur implementeringen av ett nytt IT-system mottagits av sektionscheferna inom Ljungby kommun.Studien hade en öppen ansats med syfte att få fram ny information från intervjupersonerna men i vissa fall användes också ledande frågor. Tillförlitligheten i studien uppstod i form av att fem intervjuer genomfördes och informationen som framkom var till stor del likadan. Validiteten uppstod då ett flertal sektioner deltog i undersökningen vilket gjorde att resultatet kunde appliceras på sektionerna inom Ljungby Kommun och därmed ses som giltigt. Generalisering av resultatet kunde göras på de olika sektionerna inom Ljungby Kommun.Studien genomfördes genom att fem slumpmässigt utvalda personer inom olika sektioner inom Ljungby Kommun intervjuades. Resultatet av intervjuerna analyserades sedan mot olika teorier till exempel förändringar, kommunikation, kulturer i organisationer, kravinsamling och användbarhet av system.

Idag används till största del fossila bränslen inom den svenska transportsektorn. Sverige har som mål att ha en fossilfri fordonsflotta år 2030. För att klara det målet krävs en snabb och stor omställning. I detta projekt har biodrivmedelsproduktion integrerat i sågverk studerats. Integrationerna har studerats ur ett ekonomiskt, resurs- och miljömässigt perspektiv.Etanol och metanol producerat från skogsråvara via enzymatisk hydrolys respektive förgasning är de biodrivmedel som studerats i två separata fallstudier.
