Garbage to gardens : design proposals for two decentralised waste management units in Pune, India
The population growth and urbanisation in low-income countries bring issues of poor living standards and miserable sanitation conditions onto the agenda. If well-functioning waste management systems were developed, this could master some of the problems. The already existing local informal waste handling system that is common in many low-income countries, needs to be developed with proper sorting and composting solutions to decrease the environmental burden and improve the overall situation in the dense cities.
This master?s thesis project is performed with the intention of developing functional decentralised waste management units in the city of Pune, India.
Färdvägsmiljöer vid cykling för transport : En studie av en modell om uppfattningar av färdvägsmiljön hos cyklister
SummaryAimThe study examines a theoretical model developed to capture cyclist´s perceptions of the route environment. The survey focuses on if level two and three in the theoretical model captures what it´s intended to do. More specific we ask ourselves how the three appraisals (unsafe/safe by traffic reasons, stimulating/inhibiting route environment, unsafe/safe by other reasons) in the model´s second level relates among themselves and if these three appraisals can capture the degree of environmental well-being/unwell-being in the model´s third level. The questions were: Do the three appraisals differ among themselves? What is the difference/-s in such cases? And, is there a correlation between any of the three appraisals and environmental unwell-being/well-being? What is the correlation in such case? MethodThe gathering of data was done through questionnaires.
GIS och statistik vid dräneringsområdesvis kväveläckagebeskrivning i Halland
The last decades have shown increased nitrogen leeching from soil to water recipients. This is inSweden mainly due to over-manuring of agriculture land, effectivization of drainage systems and thedeclining extent of wetlands. The accumulated amount of nitrogen in water doesn?t only make itunsuitable for use by humans and cattle, but also decreases the biological diversity as well as negativelyaffect tourism and fish industry. In the most severe cases shallow maritime grounds can be completelydepleted of oxygen due to decomposition of the increased amount algae and plankton growth. This study have the aim to describe and quantify the nitrogen leeching from the Genevad drainagebasin, located in southern Halland, Sweden.
Vintervegetation genom ljus : om hur man med belysning kan framhäva avlövad vegetation i offentlig stadsmiljö
Use of lighting is crucial to make public urban
places available during dark hours. Landscape
architects participate in planning of lighting, but
during our education there is very little taught on
the subject. Through this study we approach the
subject of lighting by looking into lighting methods
for urban plant materials during winter.
In this thesis we look into ways to emphasize the
visible characters and experiences of urban plants
during winter season using light. Target audience
are landscape architect students and landscape
architects without knowledge of lighting. The part
of the thesis that describe basic conditions for, and
visual characters of plants can be useful to lighting
designers without knowledge in this subject.
Working methods used were the following:
? Pre-study about light and lighting techniques
through literature and dialogues.
? Compiling important visual winter plant
characters through photography and literature.
? Outdoor light experiments with plants.
Om fototextpoesi : Läsningar av mötet mellan fotografisk bild och poetisk text
What is the relation of image and word, of sentences and pictures? What kind of message does this combination produce when juxtaposed on a single material plane? And how do we read its ?infinite? relation? These are the questions at the center of this inquiry. My main interest concerns the exact nature of the relation between photographic images and textual elements of poetic language when these are juxtaposed in what I call Phototext poetry. The thesis calls into question the conventional reading habits of the conjunction of photographs and texts, and seeks to understand the more complex connections intrinsic to the relation image/word and its material and perceptual play in poetic works. Does a text always ?anchor? the multiple meanings of an image, as Roland Barthes argues? What if the alterations of an image could ?anchor? certain fractions of a poetic, polysemantic textual construct? Is a photograph indifferent to the visual, material permutations of texts that certain contemporary poetic practices produce?I discuss phototextual works and collaborations of various kinds, from Molin fontän [?Molin?s fountain?] (1866) over classic surrealist poetry to language-oriented writing.
