Vuxenliv med funktionshinder : En studie om unga vuxna med lindrig utvecklingsstörning

This study focuses on young Adults with mild mental retardation and how their early adult life is a few years after leaving high school. They have grown up in a society where the view on mentally disabled has undergone big changes. Political decisions regarding handicapped, laws, official principles and social reforms have been dominated by the prinziple of normalization.The purpose has been to describe how the young Adults themselves experience their life. The questions were: How is the every day life for young Adults with mild mental retardation? Do they have asset to community support in order to reach as normal life as possible? How satisfied are they with their life?The investigation is a quality study through interviews with four young Adults and their parents.

AbstractIn this thesis we analyze how institutions describe the dichotomy between ?problem? and ?resource? when dealing with young Adults. We also analyze the consequences of this dichotomy as it involves the younger generation's participation and group identity in today's society. Dichotomies and New Institutionalism Theory is the base for this case study completed in Malmö, Sweden. We have done eight qualitative interviews with politicians and employees in Malmö municipality and a quantitative content analysis of reference documents from both the Malmö and Swedish governments.

Background: Young Adults undergo a phase in life when they try to become independent individuals and are expected to take responsibility. The transition to adult life, cause hardship for all young Adults, but with concurrent mental illness this transition can be more complicated. The young Adults may need support from their parents in connection with care.Aim: The aim of this study was to describe nurses' perceptions of parental participation in the care of young Adults with mental illness.Method: To describe the perceptions of a phenomenon, qualitative interviews with a phenomenographic approach were conducted. The interview texts were analyzed into five description categories and 10 perceptions. In the study, eight nurses were interviewed.Results: The result shows that parental participation in the care is based on the young adult's decision.

Speech disorders are common in children with 22q11-deletion syndrome, but there is limited knowledge about speech in Adults with this syndrome. The aim of this study is to describe speech and voice in Adultswith 22q11-deletion syndrome, and compare the results with a control group.Ten Adults between 19-49 years participated in each group. The study wasbased on the Swedish dysarthria assessment, Dysartribedömningen. Thetested abilities were respiration, phonation, oral motor function, velopharyngeal function, articulation, prosody and intelligibility. Communicative participation was examined as well.

The aim of this study was to examine the possibilities to enter the regular labour market for pupils and young Adults with intellectual disabilities. The method used is tape-recorded qualitative interviews with; Two pupils with intellectual disabilities, studying the last year at a special school. Two young Adults with intellectual disabilities, former pupils at a special school and at the moment in search of work at a Public Employment Service office for young Adults with disabilities. Furthermore were interviews made with two professionals, one student counsellor at a special school and one representative at a Public Employment Service office for young Adults with disabilities. For analysing the empirical data, Iris Marion Young's theory about Five Faces of Oppression, Crip theory and Dalrymple and Burkes theory about empowerment was used.

The purpose of this BA-thesis is to examine how many girls, boys, women and men who appear in children?s programmes in the years 1978, 1992 and 2007. We have also studied if they are described as typical gender role stereotypes and we have looked at the power conditions between girls and boys, women and men and children and Adults. From the results we then examined the changes through out the years. We have made this possible by choosing two days each year when most children were watching the programmes.With the gender role theory we have brought up the important issue of the fact that men appear more frequently in media then women and by doing so the media preserve men as the standard gender.

Bedömning av prosodisk förmåga hos vuxna med förvärvad hjärnskada.

Prosody is the melody and rhythm of speech and language. Prosodic ability is of great importance for communication, and has been shown to be affected in Adults with acquired brain injury. Studies have shown that Swedish children with specific language impairment have prosodic  difficulties to a greater extent than e.g. English speaking peers. It is thereby possible that prosodic ability is more vulnerable also in Swedish speaking Adults with acquired brain injury.The aim of the present study was to assess prosodic ability in Adults with acquired brain injury, and to evaluate the prosodic assessment procedure that was used.

This was done due to the use of qualitative interviews with a total of six social workers. Of these six, three administrated social assistance for adolescents while the other three did the same for Adults. Prior research of poverty attribution greatly inspired this essay.

The purpose of the study was to examine which motivational factors are significant and the difference between the genders.
