The study's aim is to create an understanding for the question why Sweden in 1921chose to create its own classification system for public libraries instead of adapting e.g.the Dewey-system which - at this time - was internationally we11 spread. It examines thesocial changes which proceeded the creation of the Swedish Library Association (SLA)in 1915 and discusses in depth the work of the committee appointed by SLA to createthe classification system. Special interest is also given to the relation between SLACSand the Dewey-system.The study shows that the main influence on the codttee's work was the formerSwedish tradition of classification practice. The Dewey-system was seen as inappropriateto adapt in the Swedish libraries because of the vast changes that wouldhave to be done, and the fact that the decimal notation was practically unused in anylibraries in Sweden.From a methodological point of view, the study tries to apply a critical hermeneuticalapproach as developed by Paul Ricoeur.The study contains an extended English summary..

The aim of this essay is to examine fan culture?s role in Swedish public libraries. I have interviewed, via email, six librarians who encounter and use fan culture in their daily work. The theoretical elements of my essay are based on a modified set of theories by Dorte Skot-Hansen that identifies six ideal types of cultural political rationalities. My study reveals that fan culture is used in Swedish libraries as a tool in increasing user participation in library activities.

This master thesis concerns the relationship the librarianhas to the libraries classification system. The system itselfis made by librarians for librarians and is only used bylibrarians. This raises the question of how the librariansrelate to their own system to create order. The empiricalmaterial consists of five in-depth interviews with librarians.Two theoretical approaches were used in the analysis of thematerial with one focus on the librarian?s professional rolland the other on the postmodern theories about humansneed for order.

Syfte med arbetet är att undersöka hur lärare, i de tidigare åldrarna, arbetar med skönlitteratur och elevnära texter. Vi har undersöka hur lärare väljer texter till eleverna och vilket samarbete de har med bibliotek och bibliotekarie för att finna passande litteratur. Vi ville också ta reda på vilket syfte lärare har när de använder skönlitteratur i sin undervisning.  Undersökningen bygger på intervjuer som har genomförts med lärare och sedan kategoriserats utefter de svar vi fått. I resultatet kommer vi fram till att det både finns möjligheter och en del hinder när lärare ska arbeta med skönlitteratur. Elevers eget intresse, hemmiljö, samt vilka resurser som finns till hand har betydelse för lärarens arbete.

Detta arbete undersöker möjligheterna med att simulera mikrovågor i ett slutet system. Systemet implementeras med en redan befintlig teknik kallad ray tracing. Ray tracing är en ljussättningsteknik som går ut på att simulera fotoners rörelse mellan ljuskälla och betraktare i en miljö man önskar ljussätta, och sedan belysa de områden som blir träffade för att på detta vis rendera en bild. Fotoner och mikrovågor har egenskaper som liknar varandra då de båda är elektromagnetism med olika våglängder. Ray tracing är en krävande algoritm då många uträkningar för varje foton måste utföras varje uppdatering.

The subject of this paper is the library job market in Sweden 1975-1995. The object of this master thesis is to question why the sheet music heldby libraries is not used more than it is. I have mainly studied the inc idenceof any cooperation between the music schools and libraries,whether there has been consultation on the purchase of sheet musicand whether the music schools borrowed sheet music from the libraries.For the thesis qualitative methods were used in the form of interviewswith ten leaders in music or cultural schools in Sweden. The mainstudy has been focused on the library and music school in Vänersborg.To compare my results and draw conclusions I have used the work ofSanna Taljas: Music, Culture and the Library: an analysis of Discourses.The result of the study showed that there is very little cooperation betweenthe library section for music and the music school. The greatestinterest for cooperation appears to come from the library personnel.Both the library and the music school personnel claim insufficient timeand money for their lack of cooperation..

The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate if the mobile library has a similar role as the public library. To study this further we intend to examine the value and function of the mobile library. Answers are sought to the following questions: Can the mobile library be seen as a public library in a smaller scale? How do the users experience the value and function of the mobile library? What does the library staff think of the value and function of the mobile library for the users? What would the consequences be if the service of the mobile libraries would not exist? The method used was qualitative interviews. The groups of respondents are mobile library users and library staff.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine adults? fictionreading habits. The focus is finding out what differencesexist between men and women to study the significance offiction to readers. The study is based on a questionnairesurvey with men and women coming in to a public library.We used Sten Furhammar?s reading dimensions andcategories to describe the importance of the respondentsreading experience and describe the ways that men andwomen read.Our result shows that the genres men and women prefer arenovels, detective stories/thrillers and biographies.

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to examine whether there exists a hegemonic relationship between librarians and users of libraries with a focus on the librarians point of view. The future of movies in the library is also going to be examined. Qualitative interviews were conducted and were examined for signs of hegemony and habitus according to the respective theories. The results of these interviews showed that librarians were in favor of user suggestions to improve the libraries collection. We found that there exists a hegemonic relationship in the libraries, but that it was subliminal and unwanted.

The purpose of this Bachelor?s thesis is to describe and analyze the implementation of Facebook in a public library. A case study consisting of qualitative interviews and studies of documents containing goals for the library has been conducted at a public library going through the process of implementing Facebook in their operations. The theoretical framework for this study consists of Everett M. Rogers?s stages of the innovation-decision process and his characteristics of innovations as perceived by individuals.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the reason behind thedecision to open libraries at subway stations in Stockholm.The theoretical framework for the study is Douglas Raber´s threeideologies, social activism, conservative response and populistinitiative. The study includes interviews with librarians and apolitician responsible for the service and documents with plansfor the Public Libraries development during the period. Theempirical material was examined with an idea- and ideologicalanalysis.The conclusion is that the concept of the subway libraries consistsof a combination of the three ideologies but the most evidentare those of populist initiative and social activism.The reason for opening libraries at subway stations is to makethe libraries more easily accessible, to attract new visitors and tomake the Public Libraries service more visible. These smalllibraries have a function as a market place for the Public Librariesand as a meeting place in the city..

Det finns drygt 300 professionella förlag i Sverige med regelbunden utgivning. I Litteraturutredningen 2012 slås fast att både koncentrationen och integrationen har ökat på den svenska bokmarknaden under de senaste åren och den största aktören på bokmarknaden är Bonnierförlagen. Jättens monopolliknande ställning på bokmarknaden ger emellanåt upphov till en samhällsdebatt. Bonnierkritiker menar att Bonnierförlagens utgivning är begränsad till säkra storsäljare, vilket är ett hot mot mångfald och det fria ordet. Dessutom har Bonnier större möjlighet till marknadsföring jämfört med mindre förlag vilket i förlängningen gör att Bonnierböcker efterfrågas i större utsträckning.Ett intressant spörsmål är varför folkbiblioteken inte är involverade i denna debatt.

Fler och fler webbapplikationer låter sina användare ladda upp bilder. Ibland behöver dessa bilder manipuleras på något sätt, till exempel förminskas eller beskäras för att bättre passa in på webbsidan. Detta kan göras på flera olika sätt men denna rapport behandlar endast ett av biblioteken för bildmanipulation i PHP, nämligen GD-biblioteket.Syftet med denna rapport var att hitta eventuella styrkor och svagheter i detta bibliotek gällande bildmanipulation. Detta har gjorts genom att försöka skapa, för webben vanlig funktionalitet så som exempelvis tumnaglar, beskärning och vattenmärkning och sedan dokumentera resultatet.Resultatet av testningen visade att all testad funktionalitet gick att åstadkomma och slutsatsen som drogs av detta var att GD-biblioteket är ett bra val för någon som vill manipulera bilder..

Syftet är att utvärdera i vilken utsträckning svenska företags belöningssystem motiverar de anställda. Primärdata inhämtades via tio fallstudier genom intervjuer med de ansvariga för belöningssystemet på företagen. Sekundärdata inhämtades via en teorigenomgång av böcker, artiklar och uppsatser hämtade ur Lunds Universitets Bibliotek. Teorigenomgången mynnar ut i definierandet av tio kriterier som ett belöningssystem skall uppfylla för att vara motiverande för de anställda. De definierade kriteriernas uppfyllelse analyseras för de tio fallen.
