Samtidigt som denna ökning har skett så har stora förändringar gjorts inom det svenska skogsbruket vilket gått från att inom drivningen haft många människor anställda till att idag vara så gått som helt entreprenörsbaserat. Även dagens uttagssystem för skogsbränslen är entreprenörsbaserade och förädlingskedjan för skogsbränslen sköts idag av ett fristående entreprenadföretag som utför de olika processerna i kedjan.
